A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM LOCALITY |
IN THE NEWS |
Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld (“Gutfeld!”) will host three-part game show, “Greg Gutfeld’s What Did I Miss?”, for streamer Fox Nation. In the show, contestants are put in isolation, then asked which headlines are real and which are fake. “For these four contestants to learn what really happened while they were living in isolation, they’ll have to get through me first,” said Gutfeld. “Lucky them.” The first episode drops Monday, May 12.
Hub has shared data – which will surprise no one who has struggled to find something to watch over the past few years – that indicates improved universal search features are still needed to help consumers find relevant content across numerous services. While about three-quarters of viewers are hunting within a specific service or using another search method to find shows to watch, 56% report using a universal search feature. “As ownership of Smart TVs becomes universal, there’s still room to grow in improving the viewing experience,” said Jason Platt Zolov, Senior Consultant at Hub. “Without a single TV operating system dominating the market, each has the opportunity to better integrate paid and free streaming services and AI viewing enhancements to help gain the attention of consumers.” |

Meta acquired Instagram to “neutralize” a competitor, a lawyer for the FTC told a judge on the first day of the government’s antitrust trial against Meta Platforms. “They decided that competition was too hard,” said FTC attorney Daniel Matheson in his opening statement. “And it would be easier to buy out their rivals rather than compete with them.” Arguing that Meta is a monopoly, the attorney maintained, “consumers do not have reasonable alternatives they can turn to.” Not so, responded a Meta attorney, who pointed to TikTok and Snap, and claimed Meta purchased Instagram and WhatsApp “to improve and grow them.’
Warner Bros. Discovery has decided not to sell profitable Polish broadcaster TVN, its largest international business. “WBD has concluded that the best path forward is retaining ownership of TVN, continuing to support our business, our strategy and the incredible journalistic work of our team,” said the company in a statement to staff reported by Reuters. In addition to volatility in the US market that might have contributed to the decision, The Polish government added several media and telecommunication firms, including TVN, to a list of strategic companies that would require government approval of a sale.
The Africa Channel has released research revealing a deepening disconnect between brands and Black consumers. “Despite a 119 percent increase in Black consumer spending over the past 15 years – projected by eMarketer to reach $2.1 trillion in 2026 – and this audience consuming 32 percent more media than the general market, most brands are still missing the mark,” said TAC SVP of Sales & Business Development Dean Cates. “The overwhelming consensus in the community is that a wider cultural lens is necessary to reach ALL Black Americans.” To that end, TAC has launched a new ad solution, Pulse 360, designed to help brands connect with viewers. “We have effectively implemented solutions across our traditional TV, CTV/OTT, talent networks, experiential and branded platforms established over our past 20 years to help brands succeed, while accounting for these cultural divides leading into the next 35 years,” said Cates. “Investing in reaching Black audiences is not just about doing good; it’s about doing good business.” |
