Four members of Paramount Global’s board of directors – including three members of a special committee tasked with fielding potential buyout offers — are expected to step down in the wake of merger discussions with Skydance Media. The Wall Street Journal reported that Dawn Ostroff, Nicole Seligman and Frederick Terrell – part of a special committee formed in January to evaluate possible strategic moves by the company – will step down, with federal SEC disclosures expected as early as this week. Rob Klieger, Paramount chair Shari Redstone’s long-time attorney, is the fourth board member expected to resign.

Frndly TV will begin carrying local broadcast stations in six select DMA markets around the country by April 30, with more markets to come in the future. The six local broadcast stations (five independents and one CW affiliated station) and markets are: KDCO, Channel 3, Denver, Colorado (Scripps – Independent); WMYD, Channel 20, Detroit, Michigan (Scripps – CW Affiliate); WACY, Channel 32, Green Bay, Wisconsin (Scripps – Independent); KMCI, Channel 38, Kansas City, Missouri (Scripps – Independent); WFMZ, Channel 69, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Marantha Broadcasting Co. – Independent); and WHDT, Channel 9, West Palm Beach, Florida (Scripps – Independent).

Smart TV ownership rose nearly 80% in QI as consumers replace old TVs and embrace streaming video, according to Hub Entertainment Research’s annual “Connected Home” study. About 62% of TV households stream video (up from 47% in 2021) but consumers appear reluctant to pull the trigger on buying Apple’s pricey AI headset. Hub Entertainment said while awareness of the Apple Vision Pro is high at 49%, 76% of consumers surveyed said they were not at all likely to buy the $3,500 device, with just 10% saying they were very likely to buy.

BravoCon will return to Caesars Forum in Las Vegas on November 14-16, 2025. The fan convention is taking a year off after uniting 27,000 fans with more than 160 “Bravolebrities” at the 2023 event, also held at Caesars Forum. In the interim, Bravo said fans can satisfy their Bravo cravings with an interactive event — “Watch Party by Bravo,” – set to launch in the spring in New York and Los Angeles, where fans can experience advance screenings and exclusive sneak peeks of the network’s shows. Major League Baseball legend and Baltimore Orioles co-owner Cal Ripken Jr. will serve as executive producer of MoonBall Media’s latest docuseries in development, an unscripted program that will explore iconic feats in sports. The premiere episode will feature Ripken’s historic consecutive games streak. MoonBall Media launched in February and is led by award-winning producer and former player Anthony Seratelli and World Series Champion Eric Hosmer.

Actor Kit Harrington has said the proposed “Game of Thrones” prequel focusing on his Jon Snow character has been shelved. Harrington, speaking to “Entertainment Weekly” in an interview for his current movie “Blood for Dust” said the Snow sequel is “not happening — and not happening anytime soon anyway. We bounced some ideas around and nothing really lit us up. It just didn’t. I think we don’t want to do something that’s not worth it. So, for the time being, we’re just shelving it.”

Comic Tom Segura will star in and produce a six-episode dark comedy series for Netflix. Segura, who has made five successful stand-up specials for the streamer, will serve as narrator for the as yet unnamed series, taking viewers through a succession of vignettes in each episode.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

The History Channel will premiere the new six-part nonfiction seriesHow Disney Built America” on April 28 at 10p alongside the return of the eight-part nonfiction series “The Mega-Brands That Built America” on the same day at 9p. Peyton Manning joins Mega-Brands this season, both on-screen and as an executive producer, with his company Omaha Productions to produce alongside Lucky 8.

The latest edition of PBS series “Next at the Kennedy Center” – “Ben Folds Presents: Declassified” – and the fifth season of “Great Performances: Now Hear This” will premiere on April 12, while new episodes of dramas “Call the Midwife,” “Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office” and “Alice and Jack” will debut on April 14.

MLB Network’s non-traditional game telecast series — “MLB Tonight: Clubhouse Edition” — returns for its fourth season on April 15, Jackie Robinson Day, with the Atlanta Braves at Houston Astros at 8p. Cy Young Award winner and six-time All-Star CC Sabathia will return to lead the series on April 15, joined by Chris Young, Siera Santos and guest analyst Adam Jones.

“Jeopardy! Masters” will return for its second tournament on May 1, hosted by Ken Jennings and featuring 2023 champion James Holzhauer, former contestants Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach, and new contestants Yogesh Raut and Victoria Gross. A sixth “wildcard contestant will be chosen by show producers and unveiled at the live “Inside Jeopardy!” event at New York’s Hudson Yards on April 12.

COMING UP

The HBO Original six-part documentary series “The Jinx – Part Two, produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Andrew Jarecki, debuts April 21 at 10p on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. New episodes will debut subsequent Sundays at the same time.

Eva Longoria’s six-episode dramedy – “Land of Women” – will make its debut on AppleTV+ on June 26. The series, inspired by Sandra Barneda’s bestselling novel “La Tierra de las Mujeres” and shot in both English and Spanish, stars Longoria, Carmen Maura and Victoria Bazúa.

ABC and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said the 97th Oscars will be held on March 2. The ceremony will once again begin an hour earlier than usual – 7p – from the Dolby Theater at Ovation in Hollywood.

Apple TV+ said its new 10-episode series “Yo Gabba GabbaLand!,” inspired by the Emmy Award-nominated kid’s phenomenon “Yo Gabba Gabba!,” will premiere globally on Friday, August 9.

Veteran journalist Anna Kooiman will anchor the weekend edition of “NewsNation Live,” beginning April 13.

ReachTV said they are teaming up with entrepreneur Bill Rancic to create a new original edutainment series “Dollar Bill,” sharing everyday advice on money management, wealth, fitness and building a successful financial future.

Kartoon Studios, the controlling partner of Stan Lee Universe, LLC, has launched the “Stan Lee Presents” channel on YouTube, with over 300,000 subscribers. Formerly “Cinematica,” the channel will be managed by Kartoon Studios’ subsidiary Frederator Networks and will focus on all things Stan Lee, including content from Stan’s personal archives, digital Stan Lee comic books, interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, rarely seen historical materials, as well as sneak peaks of upcoming Stan Lee Universe projects, clips, trailers, interviews, and more, available exclusively on the channel.

AI video advertising company Waymark said it is introducing a new self-serve plug-in solution and Spanish-language capabilities to its video platform. The update allows for the creation of full video ads with on-screen Spanish copy and fluent Spanish voice-overs, featuring a wide array of localized synthetic AI accents.

AI-powered streaming news service Channel 1 has released a new video at www.channel1.ai/vision and available on the company’s social media accounts featuring its founder Adam Mosam discussing the company’s future and why journalism is essential, especially in the era of AI.

TelevisaUnivision has partnered with technology platform Transmit to introduce an industry-first vertical video advertising feature that seamlessly brings creator-driven social ads to streaming platforms. TelevisaUnivision and Transmit co-developed the new ad format, which they say streamlines the ability to showcase vertical video social media assets concurrently with live sporting events and tentpole entertainment on OTT channels.

SPORTS UPDATE

FloSports has signed a multi-year media rights agreement with the Wanda Diamond League that will give it access to many of the world’s top Track & Field events. The agreement, brokered by Infront as the exclusive international media rights partner of the Wanda Diamond League, allows FloSports to stream and distribute all events live in the U.S. and its territories across its FloTrack channel starting in 2025 along with World Athletics Continental Tour Gold label events and World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold label events starting in 2024. These do not include domestic events held in the U.S.

IMG Academy said it has formed a strategic partnership with IMG’s Tennis division to nurture emerging tennis talent, a continuation of the two brands’ work together following the sale of IMG Academy to EQT in May 2023. Through the partnership, the Academy will extend opportunities to IMG’s tennis student-athletes and be their home for world-class training and development. IMG will also provide wildcard spots for prestigious tennis events, allowing student-athletes to showcase their skills and ability on the global stage, and also will offer marketing opportunities to further amplify the profiles of IMG Academy’s tennis student-athletes.

Bowling Center Television (BCTV) has partnered with multiplatform sports network Stadium that will enable BCTV to integrate Stadium’s sports-centric content into BCTV’s offerings. Bowling centers nationwide will now have access to a variety of sports programming on a daily basis. Stadium programming includes “Inside the Association,” “Red Corner Blue Corner,” “Goodman vs. Gottlieb,” and BCTV will showcase these daily series, ensuring that bowling center consumers can enjoy premium sports content throughout their bowling experience.

While the NCAA Women’s March Madness Tournament broke viewership records, engagement during the telecasts also set new standards. According to outcomes company EDO, ad engagement during the women’s Final Four round was up 98% over last year, with Sweet Sixteen ad engagement up 68%, and the first two rounds and Elite Eight rising 42% and 5%. The women’s championship game – which had a record-breaking 18.9 million viewers — was 8% more effective in driving ad engagement as compared to the primetime broadcast and cable average, an 8% increase over last year. Meanwhile, the men’s Championship game was 76% more effective than the broadcast average, experiencing a 14% decrease in consumer likelihood to engage with ads during the final game of the tournament compared to last year.

Glasgow’s Freedom Scripted said it is adapting “Engleby,” the cult 2007 novel by bestselling author Sebastian Faulks. Actor Noah Jupe, currently starring opposite Michael Douglas in upcoming AppleTV+ series “Franklin,” has been attached to play Engleby. Michael Keillor will direct and screenwriters Ryan Craig and Jess Ruston will write the series, with Freedom Scripted’s MD Mike Ellen executive producing.

Madd Entertainment has signed deals for six new Turkish series to the Middle East and North Africa – “Wild Heart,” “My Wonderful Life,” “The Brave,” “Dirty Laundry,” “No Mercy” and “Blooming Lady,” all of which debuted during this broadcast year.

Nearly 18.9 million viewers tuned in for the April 7 NCAA Women’s National Championship Game, doubling last year’s performance (9.9 million viewers) and outpacing the NCAA Men’s final for the first time ever, according to Nielsen. The women’s final pitted the University of Iowa and its breakout star Caitlin Clark against the undefeated University of South Carolina in a rematch of the 2003 women’s semifinal. South Carolina came out on top, winning 87-75 on strong performances from Kamilla Cardoso and Tessa Johnson. The Men’s final on April 9 drew 14.8 million viewers, with the University of Connecticut winning its second straight title by beating Purdue University, 75-60. Viewership of the Men’s final was up by about 129,000, according to Nielsen.

It appears that the series finale of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” did pretty, pretty good, reaching 1.1 million viewers across HBO and Max last Sunday, capping comedian Larry David’s 24-year and 12 season run. Using a combination of Nielsen data on linear viewers of HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery’s estimates of streams on Max, it was the highest viewership of any episode of the series this season, which debuted on February 4. The most recent finale was the show’s largest audience since 2020, when its season 10 closer reached 1.4 million viewers.
