Boosted by the increase in ad-supported streaming services, streaming revenue will surpass TV subscription revenue by 3Q24, projects research firm Ampere Analysis. “Streaming will continue to race ahead as traditional pay TV declines – with the value of pay TV in 2028 expected to fall to half the value it saw at its peak in 2017,” according to Ampere’s numbers. Revenue from ad supported streaming tiers is expected to pass $9 billion in the US this year.

Total US TV station advertising revenue will rise 14% to $24.8 billion this year, according to an S&P Global Market Intelligence forecast, helped by an increase in political advertising. TV stations are expected to experience a 10% increase in political ad spending, to hit $3.94 billion. Digital advertising revenues for TV stations is forecast to reach $3.23 billion, the same as in 2021. Overall TV station revenue, including advertising and retransmission, is projected to grow 8.3% to $40.04 billion in 2024.

MTV Staying Alive Foundation, Paramount Global and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the global March 1 release of “In Bloom,” an anthology of five short films that delve into the complexities of gender issues. The collection, addressing a range of issues including child marriage, gender-based violence, HIV self-stigma, family planning, period poverty and women’s economic empowerment, debuts on Paramount+ and Pluto TV. After the premiere, Paramount will distribute it rights-free to third-party platforms.

Whoopi Goldberg has joined just-launched BLKFAM as an equity partner and creative director. The Black-owned FAST channel focused on family-friendly content includes original series, animated programming and syndicated shows that tell stories through the lens of the Black experience. Goldberg and Whoop, Inc. president Tom Leonardis will be involved in the creative development of programming exclusive to the platform.

The first group of presenters announced for the 2024 Oscars ceremony includes Mahershala Ali, Nicolas Cage, Jamie Lee Curtis, Brendan Fraser, Jessica Lange, Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o, Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ke Huy Quan, Sam Rockwell, Michelle Yeoh and Zendaya. The awards event kicks off Sunday, March 10 on ABC at 7p, an hour earlier than usual.

Shane Gillis’ self-funded scripted comedy “Tires” has landed at Netflix, and will drop Thursday, May 23. Gillis, who stars in the series and also serves as writer, co-creator and executive producer, headlined a comedy special last year that was on Netflix’s top ten list for two weeks.

OWN Ordered season two of “First Time Buyers Club.” The reality show following a high school teacher-turned-realtor became Saturday night’s #1 original cable series (without sports) in its time period across all key African-American demos, with over 4.4 million P2+.

Wiip (“The Summer I Turned Pretty”) has acquired Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ YA novel “Little White Lakes” to develop for TV. The mystery follows a girl from the wrong side of tracks who agrees to a debutante season so she can find out the identity of her biological father. Wiip’s Paul Lee, Mark Roybal, and Nate Winslow will executive produce alongside Barnes and Heather Parry (“A Star Is Born”).

ITV has commissioned UK-based Plimsoll Productions (“A Bug’s Life”) to produce a new entertainment and wildlife crossover format, “SHARK! Celebrity Infested Waters.” Slated to air next year timed to the 50th Anniversary of “Jaws,” the show will dare a group of ocean-phobic celebrities to confront their greatest fear, sharks.

Several key characters in “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” will be familiar to viewers of Starz’ flagship series, “Outlander.” Joining Clan Fraser as a young Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser is Rory Alexander ( “Pistol”), a role originated by Duncan LaCroix. Sam Retford (“Ackley Bridge”) takes on the role of the Dougal MacKenzie, Séamus McLean Ross (“Payback”) is his older brother Colum MacKenzie, and serving as their faithful advisor is Conor MacNeill (“The Tourist”) as a young Ned Gowan. These roles were originated by Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis and Bill Paterson, respectively.

Electric Entertainment has acquired the exclusive North American distribution rights to the 2023 Seattle International Film Festival Official Selection, “Year of the Fox.” The deal gives Electric Entertainment all media rights.

Amuz Distribution has sold television music concerts to TV5 Monde France and RTS in Switzerland. The rights to Le Grand Concert de la SuperFrancoFête were acquired through a partnership between TV5 Québec Canada, its partners and TV5Monde, and Pour Toi Céline to RTS in Switzerland for broadcast in Spring 2024.

Banijay Iberia’s Zeppelin announced entertainment dance format “Baila Como Puedas” (international w/t “Dance If You Can”) for RTVE’s La1, following sixteen professionals showcasing their skills at the Baila Como Puedas Academy.

Disney Branded Television, BBC Studios Kids & Family and Australian Broadcasting Corporation announced that the next installments of “Bluey,” including an extended length special, will premiere this April, marking the series’ first global rollout. The first new episode, “Ghostbasket,” will premiere on Sunday, April 7, teeing up the debut of the 28-minute special, “The Sign,” premiering Sunday, April 14.
