Fifty-four percent of US diverse consumers wouldn’t care if brands disappeared tomorrow, according to Havas’ inaugural Meaningful Brands Special Report. Done in conjunction with Republica Havas and Havas Media Network, “Seize the Moment: Unleashing America’s Full Potential Through Diverse Consumers” looks at how brands can more successfully connect with and court Asian, Black and Hispanic populations across multiple generations. “The window of opportunity is open for brands to engage with diverse audiences, who are hungry for meaningful connections. Hallmark Media is going the experiential route to engage advertisers this Upfront season. From April 2-11, a series of curated immersive events will take place at locations throughout the New York City area, including a private tour and cocktail party at `an iconic NYC venue, hosting and entertaining classes, dinner at a Michelin-rated restaurant, and more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with creative teams, and gain early access to previews of upcoming content.

Fox will host its upfront presentation on May 13 at the Hammerstein Ballroom. “We are excited to return to Upfront week, the culmination of months of bespoke client engagements focused on developing custom solutions for our valued partners across our industry-leading content, data and technology,” said Jeff Collins, President of Advertising Sales, Marketing and Brand Partnerships.

Geraldo Rivera has joined NewsNation as correspondent-at-large, appearing across the cable new net’s daytime and primetime programming. Rivera left Fox News, where he was co-host on “The Five,” last summer.

Syfy’s “Surreal Estate” scored a season three renewal. Season two of the Canadian drama series was cable’s #3 original scripted series in its timeslot among total viewers and A18-49.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Peacock gave straight-to-series orders for four projects from Universal Studio Group. “Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy” is based on the exploits of the serial killer, and the investigation that ultimately brought him down; “All Her Fault” is adapted from the best-selling novel; espionage thriller Unt. James Wan & Simu Liu Project stars Simu Liu; and mockumentary “Mr. Throwback” features NBA legend Stephen Curry and Adam Pally.

NBC ordered a pilot for “Grosse Point Garden Society,” from Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, who have overall deals at Universal Television. The drama follows members of a suburban garden club who get caught up in murder.

Apple TV+ gave a series order for conspiracy thriller “Prime Target,” starring Leo Woodall (“The White Lotus “) and Quintessa Swindell (“In Treatment”). Creator Steve Thompson (“Sherlock”) also serves as executive producer for the drama, produced for Apple TV+ by New Regency with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free. Brady Hood (“Top Boy”) directed all eight episodes and also serves as executive producer.

Drama “The Sensitive Kind,” starring Ethan Hawke, landed a pilot order from FX. Creator Sterlin Harjo (“Reservation Dogs”) serves as writer and director on the project, which he and Hawke executive produce with Garrett Basch.

Judalina Neira (“Daisy Jones and the Six”) inked an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television focused on developing drama series via her production company, Famous Last Words Productions. First up: a reboot of “Bewitched.”

Casting notes: Tony Curran (“Defiance”) has joined the cast of Starz’s “Outlander” prequel “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” as a series regular….Brittany Snow (“Almost Family”) will star opposite Malin Akerman in Starz drama “The Hunting Wives.”…Molly Shannon joins fellow “SNL” vet Martin Short for a role in season four of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

During Peacock’s TCA presentation, the streamer announced the premiere date for reality series “Love Undercover”: May 9. The show follows five international soccer players who leave their lavish lives behind to date over 18 single women who don’t know of their fame overseas. Additionally, “Love Island USA” returns in summer 2024 along season two of dating series “Queens Court,” hosted by Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete.

So NBCU is interested in reality shows? “We are open, we are buying. We are encouraging people to come in with their big ideas,” said NBCU’s Corie Henson, EVP, Entertainment Unscripted Content, at TCA.

On the way back to Syfy: The second half of season three of “Chucky” launches April 10 at 10p, while season two of “Reginald the Vampire” kicks off May 8 at 10p, and “The Ark” returns for its sophomore run this summer.

New couples kiss the honeymoon stage goodbye as they navigate the next step in their love story on the new season of TLC’s “90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?”, premiering March 17 at 8p.

STREAMING

Cineverse announced the upcoming launch of cineSearch, an AI-powered movie search platform, including an AI-based video advisor known as “Ava.” The search feature will utilize the first proprietary movie industry-specific AI model specifically tuned with an extensive set of metadata with support for search dimensions such as theme, tone, mood, setting, music score, plot, micro-genre, and more for films available across all streaming services. “Effective search and discovery is currently the most pressing problem for users of streaming services today,” said Tony Huidor, Chief Technology Officer & Chief Operating Officer of Cineverse. “We first developed cineSearch as an answer to our own problem. Using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform, we now have the ability to expand this feature well beyond our initial expectations.” The public beta of cineSearch will be available within the Cineverse streaming platform in spring 2024.

FOX Weather has expanded distribution to Hulu + Live TV and TCLtv+. The FAST channel launched in October 2021.

TECH

Walmart is exploring a deal to buy Vizio for $2 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal. Acquiring the smart TV manufacturer and ad platform could put Walmart in a more competitive position with Roku and Amazon’s Fire TV.

“CBS Mornings” was the #1 morning news program with viewers on February 12, marking the first time in the show’s history that it beat ABC’s “Good Morning America” and NBC’s “Today” on the same day. Airing the day after the Super Bowl, the show delivered 2.9 million viewers, with 654,000 among A25-54.
