Super Bowl LIX generated over $800 million in gross revenue from advertising sales across platforms, with record pricing for the sold-out game, reports Fox. The match-up peaked at 137.7 million viewers in the second quarter, according to Nielsen; pregame coverage averaged 23.4 million; and the Apple Music halftime show drew an average of 133.5 million viewers across television and digital platforms. “The clear winners Sunday night were the Eagles, the NFL, and Fox,” said Lachlan Murdoch, Executive Chair and CEO, Fox Corporation.
The Apple TV app is now available to download from Google Play on Android mobile devices, offering Android users access to series and films on Apple TV+, along with – just in time for Major League Soccer’s 2025 season – MLS Season Pass. Users don’t need an existing Apple ID to subscribe to Apple TV+, but can sign up through the app and pay for the subscription through Google Play.
Comcast’s DEI efforts are being investigated by the FCC, on the grounds they might violate equal opportunity laws. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr wrote to Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, saying the commission wants to ensure Comcast’s companies are not “promoting invidious forms of discrimination.” Responded a spokesperson for the media giant, “We have received an inquiry from the Federal Communications Commission and will be cooperating with the FCC to answer their questions. For decades, our company has been built on a foundation of integrity and respect for all of our employees and customers.”
How did Kanye West’s Super Bowl ad, promoting a website that sold swastika T-shirts, get past executives at the local stations where it aired? Turns out before the game, the website featured a selection of non-branded clothing. But after the spot aired, the content on the website was swapped for the offensive T-shirt. Shopify later made West’s yeezy.com store “unavailable.” “All merchants are responsible for following the rules of our platform,” said the ecommerce platform in a statement. “This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them.”
Watching the clock: American TikTok users averaged 107 minutes per day on the app in January, according to Guggenheim. YouTube users were a not-terribly-close second with 87 minutes per day, while Facebook users averaged 63 minutes per day per user.
Guggenheim analyst Michael Morris noted that TikTok’s average got a lift from “superusers,” with 47% of daily users scrolling the app for at least 61 minutes per day. |

NBC’s “Dateline” is headed to Telemundo. Spanish-language encores of the newsmagazine, hosted by anchor Julio Vaquiero, start airing on Telemundo on Saturday, February 15 at 7p. “As we strive to make ‘Dateline’ available across as many platforms as possible via TV, syndication, podcasts and our streaming channel Dateline 24/7, we are thrilled to work with Telemundo and Julio to show new audiences that great storytelling transcends all languages,” said Senior Executive Producer Liz Cole.
Media mogul John Malone has a memoir coming out September 2. Born to be Wired: Lessons from a Lifetime Transforming Television, Wiring America for the Internet, and Growing Formula One, Discovery, Sirius XM, and the Atlanta Braves follows the now-84-year-old’s role in the launching of some of cable’s first networks, massive media mergers, and more. “Over a lifetime of business deals, the most valuable currency has been relationships,” said Malone. “This book is about the people who changed my thinking, the hard-won lessons that nearly broke me, and strategies that helped me navigate chaos and carve my own path to success.”
Sean “Diddy” Combs is suing NBCUniversal for defamation over how he was depicted in Peacock’s “Diddy: Making of a Bad Boy.” When the doc came out on January 14, Combs was in jail over accusations of sex trafficking, kidnapping and more. The lawsuit alleges the film “maliciously and baselessly jumps to the conclusion that Mr. Combs is a ‘monster’ and ‘an embodiment of Lucifer’ with ‘a lot of similarities’ to Jeffrey Epstein.” |
From “Stranger Things,” to Stranger Wings. Netflix has opened a restaurant at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, with meals inspired by the streamer’s shows and films. “Netflix Bites is a new way to experience fan-favorite movies and shows – when our fans find a show they like, they don’t just want to love it – they want to live it,” said consumer products VP Josh Simon. “There’s no city in the world that knows best how to immerse fans in over-the-top worlds like Las Vegas.”

“Celtics City” kicks off Monday, March 3 at 9p on HBO, with new episodes debuting weekly through April 28. The docuseries follows the NBA’s Boston Celtics from its founding as one of the league’s original teams, to its 2024 championship.

Jeremy Strong (“Succession”) is set to star in Netflix series “The Boys From Brazil,” adapted from the Ira Levin novel by Peter Morgan, who will be executive producer along with Suzanne Mackie of Orchid Pictures. The Nazi conspiracy was also turned into the 1978 film.
Harry King TV has launched Harry King Unscripted with new format “Curiosity,” starring comedian Henning Wehn and antiques expert Raj Bisram. The show is set in a shop that buys and sells outlandish collectibles and curiosities.
Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”) is directing his first documentary, ”What They Found,” for BBC Two and iPlayer. The film, slated to premiere in April, uses archival footage and first-hand testimonies to tell the story of two members of the British Army’s Film and Photographic Unit who accompanied the troops liberating Bergen-Belsen at the end of the Second World War.
Amin Joseph (“Snowfall”) has joined the cast of “The Greatest,” a limited series following Muhammad Ali’s life and career. Michael B. Jordan is executive producing.
Secuoya Studios and BlackBox Multimedia are teaming to coproduce a series for UK and Spanish streamers and broadcasters from the studio´s Madrid facilities. Secuoya plans to produce 30% of the studio’s content catalog in languages other than Spanish.
yes Studios’ “Your Honor” is set to be adapted for Chinese audiences, the fruit of a recently signed license deal between yes Studios and Hong Kong-based Ladder Ideas Limited. This will be the 10th time the format has been adapted, following the US, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, India and Russia, and will be the first-ever Israeli drama to be remade in Chinese.
Canada’s Sphere Media landed the first commission for its original kids’ factual series “Burps, Butts and Bones” (w/t). TVO Kids has ordered 26 episodes of the hybrid live-action/animation series.

Car enthusiast Jay Leno is guesting on an upcoming episode of ABC comedy “Shifting Gears.” The former “Tonight Show” host will bring one of his autos into Matt’s (Tim Allen) custom car shop for repairs.
Raven Goodwin, Amber Riley and K. Michelle reprise their roles for “Single Black Female 3: The Final Chapter,” premiering Saturday, March 22 at 8p on Lifetime. Joining the trio for the new original movie is Porsha Williams (“Real Housewives of Atlanta”).
“Heretic” will make its streaming debut exclusively on Max in the US on Friday, March 7, with its linear debut the following day at 8p on HBO. The film follows two young missionaries who are forced to prove their faith when they are ensnared in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
Also headed to Max is Max Original film “The Parenting,” on Thursday, March 13. The comedy centers on a young couple whose meet-the-parents trip puts them in the path of a 400-year-old poltergeist.

Netflix film “The Electric State” has joined as a presenting partner of Pickleball Slam 3, taking place Sunday, February 16 in Las Vegas. The partnership includes an integration featuring two functional robots from the film, known as The Billbots, stepping onto the pickleball court ahead of the film’s March 14 release. As Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf look to defend their Pickleball Slam title against Andy Roddick and Eugenie Bouchard, The Billbots will serve as line judges.
UTR Sports has become a USTA Connect partner, joining a network of tennis entities in the sharing and utilization of information and data for growth in all areas of the game. USTA Connect is used to integrate tennis facilities, software providers, industry associations, retailers, and manufacturers. For the first time, match results from a wide range of tournaments and leagues on the UTR Sports platform will be provided to the USTA.
Tencent has obtained the exclusive new media broadcasting rights for Wimbledon in China. Tencent will bring the 2025-2027 Championships to Chinese fans through its digital media and social platforms, including Tencent Video, Tencent Sports, WeChat, Tencent News, qq.com, and QQ. |

Sunday’s “Puppy Bowl” reached 12.8 million viewers across Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, truTV, Max and discovery+, to rank as the #1 non-sports cable telecast of the day in all key adult demos. It was the highest-rated “Puppy Bowl” ever on Discovery, TBS and truTV, and Animal Planet’s highest-rated in four years. Among Adults 25-54, ratings increased 25% on Animal Planet, 36% on Discovery Channel, 31% on TBS, and 44% on truTV over last year’s telecast.
“The Drew Barrymore Show” has increased 17% in total viewers year-over-year, to 1.34 million, making it the fastest growing show in first-run syndication, according to data from Nielsen. The talker is also up 29% among W18-49. |

MSNBC has named Rebecca Kutler as President of MSNBC. Kutler had served in an interim capacity after the exit of Rashida Jones. “Since joining the network, Rebecca has played a pivotal role in the development of many of the network’s recent program launches, has been a driving force behind MSNBC’s nonlinear growth and strategic investments, and has introduced new and innovative audience-focused products,” said Mark Lazarus, set to head the Comcast spinoff company that will include the news network.
Endemol Shine Boomdog has named writer, director and showrunner Jaime Escallon-Buraglia as its new Head of Unscripted Development. Escallon-Buraglia most recently served as showrunner for Endemol Shine Boomdog’s “Los 50” for Telemundo.
The E.W. Scripps Co. has promoted Tony Lamerato from VP of Sports Revenue and Sponsorships, to leader of all revenue strategy and business development efforts across Scripps’ more than 60 local television stations, effective February 17. |
