Sports media company TOGETHXR staged a major takeover during NWSL Championship week, generating 4 million impressions in just 72 hours. The lineup featured content like a pre-match livestream with the WNBA’s StudBudz duo, Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman—friends known for their hit Twitch channel—along with Megan Rapinoe popping into the suites of NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman, Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang, and even the CBS Sports desk. Kati Fernandez, TOGETHXR chief content officer, explains how the video madness came together.
How did the concept for the takeover come about?
We knew we wanted to do a livestream and build on the success of our WNBA coverage, but the bigger unlock was finding a way to tie in our whole TOGETHXR universe. With A Touch More and Megan Rapinoe already living in our world, it felt natural to center the weekend around that crossover energy.
That’s how Suite Crashers was born – our 80-minute, high-energy pre-game livestream, where the StudBudz learn soccer the loud, chaotic way by crashing suites, tailgates, and even the CBS desk, while Megan Rapinoe steps in as coach, guide, and chief instigator. It was a joyful, unfiltered crash course in NWSL culture filled with fits, snacks, wrong answers, and elite fan energy, all leading into a seamless handoff to kick-off on CBS.
With extraordinary support from the NWSL and CBS, we secured unfiltered access across Championship Weekend, including the CBS set with Sue Bird, on-air talent like Lori Lindsey, Kate Scott and Claudia Pagan as she prepped for her sideline reporting, the Commissioner’s suite, Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang, U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Emma Hayes, fans, everyone became part of the moment. The crossover was electric. And Megan Rapinoe “welcoming” the StudBudz as the third twin with the now-iconic wig just pushed it over the top.
How involved were Courtney and Natasha in the process?
Very involved. They trust our team and the creative vision, and they were true partners throughout the build. We invited Megan Rapinoe in as part of the process, and she also brought her own ideas and spin, especially the wig, which became a defining comedic and cultural moment that was passed down well into the night. It was a collaborative ecosystem in the truest sense.
How does this reflect TOGETHXR’s strategy for engagement?
This is exactly how TOGETHXR shows up: by taking big moments in women’s sports and infusing them with culture, humor, connection, and crossover energy.
We think of ourselves less as a traditional media company and more as a vessel, a conduit, for fueling the cultural conversation around women athletes. Our universe is interconnected: athletes, creators, fans, and formats all ladder back into each other.
Suite Crashers embodies that:
- Reach: We meet fans where the energy already is, inside the culture of the sport, not just around the game.
- Relevance: We tie our worlds together (A Touch More, StudBudz, Megan, Coach Jackie) in a way that feels alive, chaotic, fun, and distinctly TOGETHXR.
- Revenue: By centering creators and athletes in shared spaces, we open more doors for brands, partnerships, and long-term IP that benefits everyone involved.
But more simply: this is how we show up for the culture. We make women’s sports feel big by letting the joy, the chaos, and the personalities lead.
