NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

Sony Pictures Television Networks launched a new digital network yesterday called getTV, which will air classic movies from the 1930s-1960s. The channel is a digital subdivision of Univision Television Group-owned stations across the country. Additionally, GetTV launched a companion site at get.tv, which will provide programming schedules and more content. 1957’s Operation Mad Ball featuring Jack Lemmon kicked off the network.

Aereo, streamer-of-over-the-air-broadcasts, announced plans to launch in San Antonio on February 19. Last week, the service ran out of capacity for new New York subscribers; Forbes estimates the company has 300,000-500,000 subs in the Big Apple.

CONTENT MEDIA

CBS drama Elementary will be available exclusively on Hulu Plus, offering all episodes before the current season to subscribers. Elementary was CBS’s most watched new series during the 2012-2013 season, averaging 12.1 million viewers and ranking fourth among all prime-time series…

… Former Hulu CEO Jason Kilar is getting one step closer to releasing his next venture – The Freemont Project, dubbed “Hulu for magazines.” TubeFilter reports users will have the opportunity to select publications and add to an online library in a single app. The name of the app, FYI, is expected to change.

British TV streaming site Acorn TV premiered new films for North American viewers yesterday: Jack Irish: Dead Point, George Gently, Series 6 and You, Me & Them, Slings & Arrows, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Series 2. Acorn TV is available at www.Acorn.TV and through its Roku series.

Zodiak Rights is globally distributing Inbetweeners Movie 2, the sequel to Inbetweeners, based on the U.K. series from digital entertainment channel E4. The first movie, which follows three friends on an adventure in Australia, grossed $90 million worldwide. Zodiak Rights will release the film this August in Ireland and the U.K.

Syndicado Inc. is going digital and releasing its documentary Ready To Fly in Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia through Google Play, DailyMotion and Xbox Video on March 1. The doc follows Olympic ski jumping champion Lindsey Van as she and her teammates try to get the sport recognized by the Olympics, (and successfully did so, just in time for Sochi).

DIGITAL SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY

Super Bowl ads pulled in major numbers from views to social media shares, but there is one ad, seen only in Savannah, Georgia, which blew up on the internet yesterday. From local lawyer Jamie Casino, the ad seemed more like a movie trailer until you realize he is actually telling his crazy real-life story.
