IN THE NEWS

Look for a reunion of Seinfeld – or something like it – “very, very soon,” said Jerry Seinfeld on WFAN radio Thursday. The comedian was fielding questions about a photo taken of him with former castmate Jason Alexander; Seinfeld confirmed Alexander was playing George Costanza in a “one and done” project that involves other characters from the iconic sitcom.

Shoving aside that $37.4 billion takeover bid from Charter Communications, Time Warner Cable CEO Rob Marcus reported the company beat fourth quarter profit estimates, and forecast subscriber growth. In a call with analysts on Thursday, Marcus discussed grabbing more customers with faster Internet speeds and better customer service, and dismissed Charter’s “too-low” offer. “I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about our future,” said Marcus. “We’re geared to manage this company for the long haul.”

Tribune Broadcasting is using the force of its local Fox TV stations to support its flagship cable net, WGN America, during the pre-game show for Sunday’s Super Bowl. The thirteen Tribune-owned Fox affiliates will air a promo for original scripted series Salem, to reach 12 million households. “Using Super Bowl Sunday to help launch original content on WGN America marks the beginning of an exciting, unified effort across Tribune to promote Salem,” said Matt Cherniss, president and GM, WGN America and Tribune Studios.Salem, part of the net’s relaunch as a destination for original content, premieres Sunday, April 20.

El Rey released a not-for-the squeamish trailer for supernatural crime drama, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, premiering Tuesday, March 11 at 9p. The 10-ep thriller tells the story of bank robbers and Texas Rangers, with a healthy dose of vampire.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences yanked a nominee for best original song amid accusations of voting impropriety, saying songwriter Bruce Broughton, a former Academy governor, used his position to contact voters on behalf of little-known Alone Yet Not Alone (from the movie of the same name), creating the appearance of an unfair advantage. Broughton said in a statement he was “devastated… I simply asked people to find the song and consider it.”

The NFL is going deeper into digital with NFL Now, a digital net that will deliver personalized streams to viewers, starting this summer. Fans will be able to choose teams and fantasy football players, and have access to NFL videos, press conferences and live events, free on mobile devices through an app; a paid service called NFL Now Plus will offer premium features for a fee. Verizon, Yahoo, Microsoft and Gillette are onboard as launch partners.
