NBC‘s low-rated Thursday comedy Sean Saves the World has ceased production, 14 episodes into its 18-ep order. Last Thursday, the show earned a .7/2 rating; an SNL clips show airs in its time slot tonight. “Looking forward to Obama’s minimum wage increase to $10/hr,” tweeted series star Sean Hayes after the news broke.
Comcast reported an increase in subscribers in the fourth quarter for the first time in six years. The cable provider added 43,000 new subs, versus a loss of 129,000 in Q3. “Cable’s operating metrics improved across video, high-speed Internet and voice for both the fourth quarter and full year,” said CEO Brian Roberts.
E! late night talk show Chelsea Lately will simulcast on radio’s Raw Dog SiriusXM Comedy Hits channel starting Tuesday, February 18. President of E! Suzanne Kolb cited the net’s “ongoing efforts to provide fans new ways to engage with our shows across all platforms” as the reason for the move. The 11p show will also be available through the SiriusXM app and online at siriusxm.com.
GroupM is creating a new division, Multicultural Marketing Analytics, “dedicated to unearthing consumer insight and measuring the impact of multicultural media investments,” said Gonzalo Del Fa, president of GroupM Multicultural.
E! is also teaming with Bud Light for Super Bowl party coverage. The net will report from the Bud Light Hotel (aka a 4028-person Norwegian Getaway cruise ship, docked along NYC’s West Side), offering fans a multi-platform experience covering concerts, celebrity interviews and “the hottest parties.” Said Blaise D’Sylva, VP of sports, media and entertainment marketing, Anheuser-Busch, “Our partnership with E! will allow us to take the Bud Light Hotel experience and share it with fans across the country.”
The music of Bob Dylan will be featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Chobani, and the man himself will appear in an ad for Chrysler, according to the Hollywood Reporter. While the music legend is hardly high profile, he has appeared in commercials before, for brands including Pepsi, Cadillac and Victoria’s Secret.
SodaStream wasn’t happy about editing its Super Bowl ad, which included a mention of rival (and Super Bowl halftime sponsor) Pepsi. “This is the kind of stuff that happens in China,” SodaStream CEO Daniel Birnbaum told USA Today, after being asked to cut the Pepsi reference. Silver lining? The controversy has pushed viewing of the uncut ad on the company’s YouTube site through the roof.
In a new survey from research firm Leger, 71 percent of people polled said they planned to watch the Super Bowl – and one quarter are more interested in the commercials than the game. Nearly one-quarter of the 1000 respondents predict Budweiser will have the best ad. (Spoiler alert? click here.)

Lance Bass, an exec producer and creator of upcoming Lifetime series Celebrity Home Raiders, tells Cynopsis he got the inspiration for the show from his boy band days. “We were digging around the storage facilities for *NSYNC and found tons of stuff that the group had used on tour over the years,” Bass says. “I thought, ‘Wow, I wonder what this stuff is worth!’ which led me to think about items and memorabilia my friends might have saved, and how we could potentially raise money for charity by auctioning things off.” The show from DiGa Vision and Leftfield Pictures – premieres Thursday, March 6 at 10p.
Super Skyscrapers, part of PBS‘s new Wednesday night science block expanding programming into the 10p hour, launches with “One World Trade Center.” The one-hour ep from Blink Films UK, about the structure engineered to be the safest skyscraper ever built, premieres Wednesday, February 5 at 10p

Smithsonian Channel is paying tribute to Pete Seeger, the folk music icon who died on January 27 at age 94, with encore presentations of the 2009 documentary, Play On John: A Life in Music. The film explores the life of musician John Cohen, who formed an old-time string band with Seeger’s half-brother Mike, and incudes an interview and performance with Seeger. Doc airs Saturday, February 1 at 5p and Sunday, February 2 at 10a; Smithsonianchannel.com is streaming.
