ESPN analyst and former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is crossing over to ABC News Good Morning America just in time for the Super Bowl. Tebow will co-host the morning show with the GMA team on Friday, January 31.

IN THE NEWS

The 66th Prime Time Emmys will air on NBC on August 25 – a Monday night, rather than the usual awards-friendly Sunday berth. While the Emmys have taken place in September on CBS, ABC and Fox, NBC slotted them a month early during the net’s 2006 and 2010 rotations, so as not to conflict with Sunday Night Football. But this is the first time the show has been scheduled on a Monday since 1976.

Dish Nation, the half-hour entertainment magazine program, has teamed with leading celebrity news provider X17 Online for branded television segments, breaking news alerts, enhanced cross-promotions and entertainment news created for television station partners.

Multimedia entertainment studio Electus announced the formation of Electus Digital, a union of IAC‘s CollegeHumor Media and select Electus digital and studio properties.

Academy Award-winning actor, producer, director and 2014 Image Award nominee, Forest Whitaker is set to receive the NAACP Chairman’s Award during the 45th NAACP Image Awards. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Saturday, February 22 at 9p.

NATPE ROUNDUP

“The market’s going well,” said YuMe‘s Vamshi Sriperumbudur, from the shade of a Fontainebleau cabana at NATPE. The VP of platform marketing for the digital video brand company, one of many digital outfits taking a seat at the NATPE table, pointed to research showing that second and third screens can strengthen, not diminish, the impact of TV advertising, explaining, “The impact of a brand is higher when it is viewed on multiple screens, versus seeing it multiple times on television.”

Calling it “the little engine that keeps chugging along,” exec producer Phil Alvidrez reported that MGM‘s RightThisMinute, in its first year of national distribution, was the season’s top new syndicated show for the past three weeks. “We were among the first to pull together broadcast groups to form a show,” says Alvidrez, GM of the show’s production company, MagicDust Television. What makes the curated collection of videos found online stand out in the YouTube era? “We tell the story behind the videos,” explained Alvidrez. “The spirit of a show is sharing video – we’re not snarky or poking fun.”

Mitch Burg, president of the Syndicated Network Television Association, offered his take on three of the most buzzed-about shows ready for fall 2014. The Meredith Vieira Show (NBCUniversal Domestic Television): “People love her. She’s contemporary, feels like a friend and has resonance, and is a celebrity.” Celebrity Name Game (Debmar-Mercury): “I haven’t seen a game show like this in a long time. It’s a game you want to play.” The Real (Warner Bros.): “Lively, and a good companion for TMZ.”

“It’s an exciting time,” said Meg LaVigne, president of television at Litton, of NATPE. “There are so many platforms, and so many opportunities to maximize the technology. The key is to always keep the viewer in mind, then brand the programming as yours.” Icing on the cake: “The elevators are a lot better this year!”

YouTube superstar Grace Helbig was was excited to speak at NATPE on Tuesday, thrilled about her upcoming movie (Camp Takota, from Rocstream Studios) – and, as someone who’s had control over the content she’s produced in the past, a little nervous about a potential variety/talk show (“We’re sculpting it”) on E! But not too nervous. “There is trepidation,” Helbig allows, “but I see it as a way to show new content on a different platform. E! really understands the vibe and the personality. It’s like It’s Grace – but with a budget!”

Craig Ferguson, in the Debmar-Mercury cabana at NATPE to promote upcoming game show Celebrity Name Game, didn’t shy away from questions about his other hosting gig, on CBS‘s Late Late Show. Is he concerned about Seth Meyers stepping in as host of time slot rival, NBC‘s Late Night, on February 24? Nah. “My show is not like any other show out there,” Ferguson shrugged. “I just do the show I want to do for me.”

Twitter won’t be stepping on TV’s toes, predicted Twitter’s head of TV, Fred Graver at NATPE’s opening session. “I don’t think anyone is going to be watching TV on Twitter,” said Graver. “What we will do is point to your DVR, cable box and apps… Twitter will be the kind of guru that helps you do what you want to do and watch content when you want to.”

A new study from NATPE and CEA, presented in a panel discussion at the convention, revealed that the majority of showrunners believe second screens can “drive viewers back” to first screen content – but the path to “seamless” viewing between screens isn’t clear. Wayne Scholes, CEO of Red Touch Media, said, “The second screen doesn’t exist the way we thought it did. The first screen is often the second screen,” while president of Univision interactive and enterprise development Kevin Conroy declared, “The large screen still wins.”

Get ’em before they are gone! Lockerdome CEO Gabe Lozano joins our roster of participants for the Cynopsis Sports Breakfast of Champions event in NY. Tickets are going fast!
