Walt Disney Television renewed nationally syndicated talk show Tamron Hall in more than 80% of the country, including the ABC Owned Television Stations Group and the Hearst Television stations. “As one of the highest-rated new talk shows in five years, Tamron Hall is connecting with audiences in such a powerful and unique way, and we are thrilled to build on that momentum with a second season,” said Karey Burke, President, ABC Entertainment
 
It’s the end of the line for Brockmire . IFC confirmed that the Hank Azaria-starring and executive produced show’s upcoming fourth season, bowing in March, will be its last.  “From the beginning, Brockmire was conceived as a four-season story, and we are so proud to see it written and produced to its creative conclusion,” said IFC Executive Director Blake Callaway.
 
Tiffany Haddish, Viola Davis, Andre Braugher, Jay Pharoah, Asante Blackk and Corinne Foxx will star in ABC’s Live In Front Of A Studio Audience ‘All in the Family’ and ‘Good Times’, taking on roles in the Good Times portion of the show. Anthony Anderson and Patti LaBelle will perform the theme song. The special airs Wednesday, December 18 at 8p.
 
AT&T TV will officially launch in February 2020 and, along with HBO Max, will spearhead a “market reorientation” at AT&T, according AT&T Communications CEO Jeff McElfresh, who spoke at Barclays Global TMT Conference on Thursday. “Our growth agenda is on fiber, in our entertainment group, and on A&T TV,” said McElfresh, adding that AT&T TV will feature customer acquisition costs of roughly half of what AT&T currently spends to bring on legacy satellite TV subscribers for DirecTV. McElfresh also noted that the content lineup would be “every bit as good” as what AT&T currently offers through DirecTV and U-verse. Currently, AT&T TV is being beta tested in about 15 U.S. markets, according to CFO John Stephens, and require a self-installed Android TV box for service and not a satellite dish installed by a technician.
 
Jonas Brothers will deliver the first performance of 2020 on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2020. The trio take the stage live from Miami on the annual special airing Tuesday, December 31 at 8p on ABC.
 
Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson will be on hand when Turner Classic Movies kicks off its 11th annual TCM Classic Film Festival with a 35th anniversary screening of a new 4K remaster of Back to the Future on Thursday, April 16. Co-writer and co-producer Bob Gale will also be in attendance during the Hollywood event.
 
Parrot Analytics signed Carson Kressley to host the 2nd Annual Global TV Demand Awards on January 21 at NATPE: Miami. Joining Kressley as presenters will be Martin Kove (Cobra Kai), Hailie Sahar (Pose) and Emily Sallow (The Mandalorian). The ceremony honors the most in-demand shows of 2019, based on global demand data compiled and analyzed by Parrot Analytics.
 
The Democratic National Committee announced the first four Democratic debates of 2020. CNN and The Des Moines Register will host the first debate on Tuesday, January 14 in Des Moines ahead of the Iowa caucuses. ABC News, WMUR-TV and Apple News will host the Friday, February 7 debate in Manchester, NH ahead of the vote there. NBC News and MSNBC, in partnership with The Nevada Independent, will host the Wednesday, February 19 debate in Las Vegas ahead of the Nevada caucuses. CBS News and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute will co-host Tuesday, February 25’s debate in Charleston before the South Carolina primary, with Twitter as a debate partner. The next debate, hosted by PBS NewsHour and Politico, is slated for Thursday, December 19 at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles; CNN will provide a simulcast.
 
Sitcom king Chuck Lorre is set to receive the Cinematic Imagery Award from the Art Directors Guild. The event takes place on Saturday, February 1 at the 24th annual Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Awards in Los Angeles.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
 
HGTV picked up another season of Flip or Flop , starring former husband-and-wife Christina Anstead and Tarek El Moussa. The series’ current season has attracted over 21.9 million viewers since its August 1 premiere.
 
Disney Junior ordered a second season of Mira, Royal Detective ahead of its spring 2020 debut. Set in the magical land of Jalpur, the series follows a commoner appointed royal detective by the queen.
 
In another early renewal, Apple confirmed a sophomore season for Little America ahead of its debut. The anthology immigrant comedy, from Lee Eisenberg, Kumail Nanjiani & Emily V. Gordon, Alan Yan and Epic Magazine, launches Friday, January 17 on Apple TV+.
 
HBO Max is developing The Griswolds, a half-hour comedy based on National Lampoon’s Vacation films . The project hails from writer Tim Hobert (The Middle), Johnny Galecki and his Alcide Bava Productions and Warner Bros. TV, where Galecki and his production company are under a deal.
 
Orlando Bloom, star of Carnival Row, is expanding his relationship with Amazon Studios . The actor inked a first-look deal with the studio to create television and film projects that will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
 
FilmNation Entertainment acquired Susan Choi’s 2019 National Book Award winner Trust Exercise with plans to develop it into a limited series. Choi will write the adaptation, set in an American suburb in the early 1980s, centered on a group of students at a highly competitive performing arts high school.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES
 
A&E’s 60 Days In returns Thursday, January 2 at 10p with its most dangerous season yet. For the first time in the show’s history, more participants struggle to survive the intense program and are forced to quit, as the newly elected Sheriff takes over one of the worst facilities ever.
 
USA Network unveils a night of murder and mystery on Thursday, February 6 with the return of The Sinner at 9p. Immediately following at 10p, new series Briarpatch premieres, starring Rosario Dawson as a no-nonsense professional who returns to her quirky hometown to solve her sister’s murder.
 
Ovation set the Season 13 premiere date of Murdoch Mysteries for Saturday, February 1 at 7p. The drama series follows Detective William Murdoch and his wife as they use radical forensic techniques to solve gruesome murders.
 
Vienna Blood debuts Sunday, January 19 on PBS. Set in the first decade of the 1900s, the six-part murder mystery series from screenwriter Steve Thompson (Sherlock, Deep State, Jericho) is based on the best-selling novels by Frank Tallis.
 
Interrogation bows Thursday, February 6 on CBS All Access. The crime series is based on a case that spans more than 20 years, in which a young man was convicted of brutally murdering his mother and sentenced to life in prison.
 
COMING UP

UP for a movie? UPtv will be bringing viewers exclusive film premieres every Sunday, beginning January 5 at 7p. The stunt kicks off with the cable debut of Wedding Do Over.
A new pack of werewolves claw their way back into Zombies 2 , starting Friday, February 14 at 8p on Disney Channel and DisneyNow. The monstrous comedy sequel features the original cast, some newcomers, and a new songs and choreography.
Secrets of the Dead: Bombing Auschwitz explores two Jewish prisoners’ miraculous escape from a concentration camp. Show premieres Tuesday, January 21 at 9p on PBS (check local listings).
 
Pavarotti makes its bow Monday, December 20 at 8p on Showtime. The film, from Ron Howard, offers an portrait of the opera singer with iconic performances and never-before-seen footage. A rebroadcast airs Saturday, January 4 at 7p.
 
Nat Geo WILD special holiday event 12 Days of Pol kicks off Monday, December 23 at 9p. All day marathons of The Incredible Dr. Pol will run through Saturday, January 4.
 
The Paley Center for Media and NBC honor TV’s longest running drama, Law & Order: SVU, with The Paley Center Salutes Law & Order: SVU on Thursday, January 2 at 9p. “We thank the Paley Center and NBC for making this special acknowledging SVU’s historic 21st season,” said series creator and EP Dick Wolf. “We’re excited for viewers to see this retrospective, which chronicles over two decades of groundbreaking television.”
 
ADVERTISING
 
To give retailers and brands a guide for getting holiday ads right, consumer insights platform DISQO uncovered the trends behind ad relevance in a new study. Among the highlights:
  • 51% feel like this emoji when seeing a relevant ad: 
  • 46% strongly agree that they want to see ads relevant to them 
  • Only 6% say the ads they see are relevant to them
  • 35% feel like this emoji when seeing an irrelevant ad: 
“This study illustrates that while people are happier when they are exposed to a relevant ad, they have a hard time articulating what precisely constitutes relevance,” Carl Van Ostrand, VP of Consumer Insights at DISQO, tells Cynopsis. “As marketers strive to create content that is interesting, it’s important to pay attention to both attitudinal and behavioral signals so that they can hone in on what works.”

Animated series The Andy Cohen Diaries joins Quibi’s programming slate Series features Cohen recounting stories from his daily life, including irreverent celebrity encounters, behind the scenes moments from his shows, nights out on the town, and the trials of tribulations of first-time fatherhood.
 
Amazon Prime Video premieres Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer on Friday, January 31.  The five-part docuseries reframes the infamous serial killer’s crimes from a female perspective and includes interviews with Bundy’s longtime girlfriend Elizabeth Kendall and her daughter Molly.
 
TECH TALK
 
Google has created ADT-3 , a new Android TV device that will let developers test Android 10 implementations before rolling them out to the public. The device is a pre-certified TV dongle with a quad-core A53, 2GB of DDR3 memory and a 4Kp60 HDR HDMI 2.1 output, that Google designed with new updates and security patches. ADT-3 should be available for purchase through an Android TV OEM partner in the coming months.
 
Hulu has launched a new ad experience that will be less disruptive during binge watching.  The service, which is run by Disney, is testing out a new feature that will recognize binge watching behaviors and then reward viewers by either presenting their third consecutive episode ad-free or with a special offer from a brand. The streamer is using machine learning to predict when viewers are likely to start binge watching a show, so it can serve relevant messaging from its advertisers.
 
TVSquared and NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations partnered to offer local advertisers TV attribution solutions , marking the largest linear and OTT attribution rollout for local broadcast advertisers. All 42 NBC and Telemundo owned stations and nine RSNs can now provide advertisers, in every market covered by the stations and RSNs, with a same-day view of how their linear and digital TV campaigns are directly impacting business outcomes. With real-time analytics, advertisers can tie ad exposure to real-world business outcomes that quantify TV’s immediate impact, including website traffic, app engagement, search, SMS/phone activity and actual sales.

HBO Europe picked up Polish crime drama The Thaw.  The six-part series is written by Marta Szymanek (The Pack) and directed by Xawery Zulawski (Bird Talk).
 
Former Discovery executives Mark Procter and Steve Jones unveiled new independent production company Big Little Fish.  Based in London, it will specialize in factual entertainment formats, features and documentary series.  
 
APC Kids inked its first sales for CTC Media’s new 3D animated series Little Tiaras.  Seasons 1 and 2 have been picked up by Noga for the Children Channel in Israel, TVP for TVP ABC in Poland, and All Media for Kanals 2 in Latvia.

IN MEMORIAM
 
Chris Cotton , who co-wrote and co-starred in Comedy Central’s online talk show Every Damn Day, died at age 32. “We’re devastated by the loss of Chris Cotton – a hilarious comedian, a beloved member of the Comedy Central family and a joy to be around,” the network said in a statement on Twitter. “He will be missed.” No cause of death has been disclosed.
