Watch What Happens Live lives on . Bravo Media renewed the Andy Cohen-led talker through 2021. The show, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in June, is the highest-rated late night ad-supported cable talk show in 2019 among F18-49 and F25-54, according to Nielsen Live+7.
Steve Harvey is headed back to the daytime talk show circuit – at Facebook Watch. Steve on Watch, from Endeavor Content Film 45 and Harvey’s East 112, is set to bow on Monday, January 6. The new show will feature Harvey “giving his take on everyday issues affecting his audience,” as well conducting interviews with film, TV and music stars.
Netflix released some viewing data on Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman . According to content chief Ted Sarandos, who spoke at the UBS Global TMT Conference in NYC, the mobster film was watched by 26.4 million Netflix households worldwide in the first seven days to at least 70% completion. The streamer expects about 40 million account holders to have watched the film to at least 70% completion in the first 28 days. The Irishman was released on November 27 on the streamer after a limited theatrical run.
FOX News Channel will air live coverage of Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s testimony of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, December 11 at 10a. FNC’s coverage will begin at 9a with a special edition of America’s Newsroom leading up the 10a hearing.
John Legend will host and perform with Jennifer Hudson, Raphael Saadiq, Sting, Stormzy, Chris Martin and H.E.R. at London’s Royal Albert Hall for NBC’s Global Citizen Prize special airing Friday, December 20 at 8p. The inaugural award ceremony celebrates individuals taking action to end extreme poverty.
Gretchen Carlson and Julie Roginsky, who sued FOX News Channel and/or Roger Ailes with accusations of sexual harassment, retaliation or discrimination, have created Lift Our Voices, an organization devoted to stopping companies from using non-disclosure agreements to cover up incidents of workplace harassment and discrimination. The pair will ask industry and political leaders to pledge to eradicate NDAs for these purposes in their workplaces
AMC Networks announced that its four subscription video on demand services, Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now and UMC (Urban Movie Channel ), now exceed 2 million subscribers. It not only marks a milestone, but achieves a year-end target for the company. “AMC Networks continues to lead in the targeted SVOD category. We are building loyal and engaged fan communities around our growing service and our momentum affirms our strategy of super serving distinct premium audiences,” said Josh Sapan, AMC Networks President and CEO. “From a financial perspective, our offerings are efficient and attractive, with a large addressable market. We spend much less on programming and marketing than the general entertainment streaming services, and we are able to achieve scale at much lower subscriber levels. As a result, our subscribers have very attractive long-term values.”
Poker Central revealed the dates of its 2020 U.S. Poker Open , which will take place from March 19 to 31 in the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. For the new addition, Poker Central will be contributing an additional $100,000 in prize money to be awarded to the overall High Roller of the Year champion.
NBC’s Writers on the Verge welcomes eight new writers to its 2019-20 class: comedy writers Rishi Chitkara, Shirin Najafi and Min-Woo Park as well as drama writers Andi Delott, Maya Houston, Mitali Jahagirdar, Lira Kellerman and Shani Am. Moore were chosen from an applicant pool of more than 2,300 submissions.

Food Network ordered a second season of Buddy vs. Duff . The network’s highest-rated series of 2019 reached over 14 million viewers, and features Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman facing off in baking battles for the chance to be crowned the undisputed king of cake.
Oscar-winning writer, director and producer Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, Up and Netflix series 13 Reasons Why) signed a multi-year overall deal with Fox 21 Television Studios. He’ll be tasked with creating, developing, directing and producing series for the network, cable and streaming platforms. As part of the agreement, McCarthy will bring his production company, Slow Pony, into the Fox 21 TV Studios fold, along with his Head of Development and Production, Melissa Wells.
Anna Chlumsky (Veep) is set to lead A Really Good Day at Showtime. The dramedy series from Ayelet Waldman, Michael Chabon, Film44 and CBS TV Studios is part of an overall deal Waldman and Chabon signed with CBS TV Studios. It is based on Waldman’s book of the same title.
Showtime is also developing The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay , a limited series adaptation of Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel via CBS TV Studios. It will be written and executive produced by Chabon and Ayelet Waldman.
British supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will host and EP a Quibi show that shines the spotlight on icons of the beauty world, from Alfred Street Industries, the production company founded by Project Runway producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz.
Sony Pictures Television acquired children’s media company Silvergate , which focuses on developing, producing and licensing children’s animation. “We are excited to extend out capabilities and gain valuable children’s IP to bolster our entry into the kids’ space. Silvergate gives us a great building block to expand into this genre in a meaningful way,” said Mike Hopkins, Chairman, SPT.
Netflix boarded Sir Paul McCartney’s animated film High In the Clouds. Based on the children’s adventure novel of the same name from McCartney, Geoff Dunbar and Philip Ardagh, project hails from Gaumont, the French company that optioned the book in 2012.
HBO Max ordered a script for single camera comedy 1% Happy from Dani Fernandez (Ralph Breaks the Internet) and The Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr, according to Deadline. It centers around a woman, who after a particularly dark period in her life, is forced to move back in with her estranged father and attend weekly group therapy with a class of oddballs. Fernandez will star in the project as well as executive produce it alongside Wood via his South Park and Princeton Productions banner..
Discovery and Channel 4 joined forces to co-produce a U.S. version of the British documentary series 24 Hours In Police Custody , according to Deadline. 24 Hours In Police Custody USA (wt) will air on Investigation Discovery in America and on Channel 4 in the UK. The British version, which debuted in 2014, uses fixed-rig cameras to capture 24 hours inside a police station. The US version will be based at the Kansas City Police Department in Kansas.

STREAMING
Amazon landed the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League in Germany. The streamer will broadcast matches from the European competition on Tuesday nights from the 2021-2022 soccer season. Sky Deutschland and the sports streamer DAZN currently show the Champions League in Germany.
Netflix started a global test of a new feature for its TV apps on Tuesday that allows viewers to skip browsing titles and start streaming right away, reports Variety. The “Watch Now” feature is being added as a button to the profile selection that pops up when the streamer launches. The button will also appear on the app’s sidebar. Once the “Watch Now” button is selected, Netflix starts streaming the next episode of a show a user is currently watching, something from their personal list, or a title selected by Netflix’s algorithms. The service is also adding a “Play Something Else” button, which gives viewers a chance to try Netflix’s recommendations without having to browse the app.
In other Netflix news, the streamer could see a significant loss in U.S. subscribers next year , according to Laura Martin, media analyst at Needham. With growing streaming competition, Needham says Netflix could lose 4 million U.S. subscribers in its premium tier in 2020. At the end of the third quarter, Netflix posted 158 million total subscribers: 60.62 million U.S. subscribers and 97.71 million international subscribers. In the second quarter, U.S. subscribers fell by 130,000 marking the first time Netflix had a decline since 2011. In the third quarter, U.S. subscribers rose by 520,000.
HyperX is embracing the holiday spirit with a charity stream benefitting children in hospitals . In collaboration with eBay, the HyperX Charity Stream will feature popular influencers in head-to-head matchups during a five-hour stream to raise money for the charity organization Gamers Outreach. It kicks off Saturday, December 14 at 11a.

Google launched Google Shopping 100, a new microsite highlighting the top 100 trending products searched on the engine in the U.S. The products are organized by category – Accessories & Apparel, Gaming, Home Goods, Kitchen Gear, Personal Care, Sports & Fitness, Tech, and Toys & Games. The intention is to make it easier for consumers to purchase gifts this year. Ka-ching!
Although AT&T plans to launch HBO Max in May 2020, the company is still working on deals with traditional pay TV distributors that sell HBO to their video subscribers. Speaking at the UBS Global TMT Conference on Tuesday, COO John Stankey suggested the deals could come down to the wire. “It’s one of those things where there’s an inordinate amount of time spent by the sides at the front-end posturing and then, as a deadline approaches, a lot of work gets done in a very short period of time right before the deadline. I don’t expect these discussions are going to be a whole lot different…”

UK’s Lost Art Television acquired global rights to NiteLite Pictures’ Fork in the Road . The travel/culinary series follows two hosts as they criss-cross the globe uncovering the ingredients, the culture and the people who make the city come alive through their love of food. Production is expected to begin in mid-2020.
Emma Hunter (Mr. D, The Beaverton) was named the host of new culinary competition series Fridge Wars , premiering Thursday, February 27 at 8p on CBC. The original Canadian format produced by CBC, pits two celebrity chefs against one another with a channel to create meals using ingredients taken from ordinary refrigerators of Canadian families.
Red Arrow Studios International partnered with Seven Stories and Atalaya Productions to develop Harvey Girls . The female-led series is based on the historical phenomenon of the Harvey Girls in early 1990s America. Liz Lake (Riviera, Call the Midwife) is writing the screenplay for the project based on research form the non-fiction book.
