Most nominated shows were The Crown, Netflix’s Unbelievable and HBO/Sky’s Chernobyl, with four each. Netflix nabbed the most TV nominations, with 17, versus 15 for HBO, marking the first time in 20 years that HBO wasn’t the most nominated network. With a weakened globally economy expected to remain soft in 2020 , Brian Wieser, Global President, Business Intelligence, GroupM , predicts deceleration in advertising growth at a global level despite solid growth from the US and UK. “We forecast +3.9% growth next year and +3.1% growth is expected to range between +3–4% through 2024,” said Wieser in GroupM’s global media forecast. “ We estimate that the total global advertising market during 2020 will amount to $628 billion as we define advertising in the forecast. ” As for streaming , “New SVOD services require high levels of investment in content, and may cannibalize revenue and consumption from existing video services (such as traditional broadcast and cable networks),” noted Wieser. “This has knock-on effects for marketers who might count on television to retain its importance to consumers in years ahead, and who may only see limited ad loads from new streaming services.”
Actress Sally Field was among the honorees Sunday night (December 8) at the 42nd Kennedy Center Honors, where she was lauded by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Pierce Brosnan. Cynopsis caught up with Field before showtime, where she demurred about her role busting down stereotypes and opening doors for women in TV and film. “I don’t feel that or know that… all I’ve ever done is just put one foot in front of the other,” she said. “Sometimes I’ve have to put it down very hard and lean my body weight into it – whatever body weight I had – but that’s all I’ve ever done. I just wanted things very, very badly. I figured if I’m going down, I’m going down in flames.” Field next appears in AMC limited series Dispatches from Elsewhere alongside Jason Segel. She told Cynopsis the new project “is almost like a big movie.” The 42nd Kennedy Center Honors air Sunday, December 15 at 8p on CBS.
