IN THE NEWS

Saying she has “never experienced a more positive and thoughtful atmosphere than Fox News Channel,” Fox & FriendsElisabeth Hasselbeck nevertheless is leaving the network. The former The View co-host explained, “I want to start my day with my children first.” Said Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, “I respect her incredibly difficult, yet deeply personal decision. She has been a great addition to the Fox & Friends franchise.”

HBO’s broadcast of a U2 concert that had been scheduled for November 14 and postponed due to the November 13 terrorist attacks has been rescheduled for Monday, December 7. U2: iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE LIVE IN PARIS will be shot live at the Accorhotels Arena in Bercy, and air on HBO the same day. “We’re going to put on our best for Paris,” said U2’s Bono.

Snip, snip. The third quarter of 2015 was the sixth consecutive quarter to see a decline in total pay TV subs thanks to cord cutters, according to a new report from SNL Kagan. Year to date, cable has lost 672,000 subscribers; the number of U.S. households with a pay TV subscription dropped to 82.4 percent, down from 87.3 percent in 2010.

Fargo will return for a third season on FX. The award-winning (Emmys! Golden Globes! Peabody!) limited series, airing Mondays at 10p, is three episodes shy of its season two finale.

While on average, 57 percent of weekly TV-related Twitter impressions are live-tweeted, there is a difference when genre is taken into account. For reality shows, live impressions rose to 67 percent, while comedies drew just 49 percent of weekly impressions from live. Drama fell in the middle, with 58 percent.

NBC is giving equal time to GOP candidates John Kasich, Mike Huckabee, James Gilmore and Lindsey Graham for Donald Trump’s 12-minute November 7 appearance on Saturday Night Live. The give-back includes time on 18 NBC affiliates in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina on November 27 and 28, and the November 28 broadcast of SNL. A deal with George Pataki is also expected.

The Steve Harvey Morning Show and Premiere Networks are giving away over 7000 turkeys, an annual event for the syndicated talker since 2009. Many giveaways to local families and organizations will take place live on air.

Fixer Upper’s Ultimate Escape Sweepstakes kicks off Tuesday, December 1 during the renovation show’s season premiere at 9p. Grand prize: a two-night stay at Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia bed-and-breakfast in Waco, TX. A special code will appear onscreen during the series, which viewers can use online to enter.

Commercial director Joe Pytka will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Television Direction at the DGA Awards on February 6. Among the thousands of spots Pytka created are the iconic Budweiser Clydesdale ads.

ADVERTISING AND BRANDS

The average price of a national TV spot grew in September, according to a new monthly media cost index introduced by syndicated data company SQAD and MediaPost. The gain came from demand for broadcast, which reached an index of 183, up 40 points from September 2014; cable’s index was 126, its lowest September since 2011. The index is benchmarked to a cost of 100 in January 2009.

iSPot.tv which tracks media schedules and digital responses to TV ads in real time, and TV Squared are teaming to provide a service offering brands a return on media investment the same day a spot airs. iSpot.tv will share data with TVSquared’s Advantage platform that the companies say will connect a commercial to the point of purchase.

The Bachelor is talking biofuels and the economic benefits of ethanol and the Renewable Fuel Standard in rural America. Chris Soules may not have found a match on the ABC dating competition (he and his final rose recipient split), but the Iowa farmer seems to be the right fit for this spot. Ad is airing in Iowa, Illinois, Ohio and Indiana.

GLOBAL GOINGS-ON

The Voice is heading into its last season on the BBC, but not into the sunset. The singing competition has been picked up in a three-year deal by ITV, along with two seasons of The Voice Kids. The BBC, in cost-cutting mode, had said it would not get into a bidding war to keep the show. ITV acquired Voice format owner Talpa Media earlier this year.

Broadcasters acquiring factual and scripted from GRB Entertainment include Sky UK (Monsters and Mysteries); AWE Network (Top Travel); SBS Broadcasting in Australia (Mohawk Girls) and Fiji Airways (My Beautiful Game).

9 Story Media Group licensed additional episodes of Numb Chucks to Disney Channel Asia. The animated comedy premiered in Canada in January 2014.

Armoza Formats Double or Nothing, developed in partnership with Studio Glam, has been acquired in Italy and France by Banijay Group. In Italy, the format will be produced by Ambra, while in France it will be by H20 Productions.

DISTRIBUTION

A+E Networks and AT&T reached a distribution deal that calls for A+E Networks to continue on AT&T’s U-verse TV and DirecTV. The long-term deal includes linear, TVE, VOD and mobile for A&E, Lifetime, History, LMN, FYI, and History en Espanol. AT&T will also launch Viceland, replacing H2.

CBS is launching digital SVOD and live streaming service CBS All Access on the new Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote. $5.99/month will get subscribers over 7500 episodes from the current season, previous seasons and classic shows on demand, plus the ability to stream their local CBS TV station live in over 110 markets.
