Input Device: An input device is any piece of hardware that sends data directly to a computer, allowing a user to interact with and control said computer. An input device can be something as sophisticated as a VR headset. But the most common input devices? Your run-of-the-mill keyboard and mouse.
DirecTV Now is almost here. AT&T announced that its upcoming over-the-top live TV service will debut one week from today during a November 28 launch event in New York City. More details about the service will be revealed at the time, but we already know a lot. Most importantly: The service will carry over 100 channels for a super-low starting price of about $35 per month. DirecTV Now’s major competitors in the internet-based live TV space include Sony‘s PlayStation Vue and Dish‘s Sling TV. Hulu and Google are planning to join the fray next year.
Facebook announced that, for the first time since its 2012 IPO, it will buy back some of its stock. The share repurchase will amount to $6 billion. The buyback starts in Q1 of 2017, and doesn’t have an end date. The company also announced that, come 2017, it plans to hire more engineers and spend more on data centers.

Back in 2013, Facebook spent close to $100 million to acquire Atlas, a unit focused on ad-serving and measurement, from Microsoft. But now Facebook says it will be "winding down" the ad-serving portion of Atlas’s mission statement. "We believe Atlas will have a greater impact and create more value for advertisers by focusing on measurement," Facebook exec Erik Johnson wrote in a blog post. One motivation for the shift, according to Johnson: An ever-increasing number of publishers are serving ads themselves, instead of third parties. With the new moves, Johnson’s job title will change from Head of Atlas to Head of Client Measurement.
The Vivendi-owned YouTube-competitor Dailymotion is getting a redesign, according to Dailymotion Chairman Maxime Saada. "We are rebuilding the platform from floor to ceiling," Saada announced. "We cleaned up the explicit content, we removed the robots that pollute the audience, and we now have a sound basis on which we will be able to restart the project." The redesigned version is slated to launch in April 2017.
Amazon just launched its Prime Video services in Australia, but the company didn’t exactly do it loudly. The tech sites Gizmodo Australia and EFTM discovered last week that Prime is no longer blocking Australian IP addresses or Australian credit cards. A more official debut is likely to come within a month or two.
The online video measurement company Tubular Labs released its rankings of the top online video brands and publishers for the month of October. Some of their findings:

UNILAD and The LADbibl maintained their #1 and #2 spots with 3.1 Billion and 2.7 Billion views respectively.Viral Thread beat Tasty to grab the #3 spot with 1.6 Billion views.Tasty ranked #4 with 1.5 Billion views and 5 Minute Crafts ranked #5 with 1.1 Billion views. Osman Vargas, a Colombian music video channel ranked #1 with 747 Million views, followed by T-Series, India’s largest music label and movie studio at #2 with 712 Million views and Ryan’s ToysReview at #3 with 600 Million views.
Overall:
The top 100 video brands and creators together generated 55.3 Billion total cross-platform views in October. These videos had an average V30 (views per video in 30 days) of 5 Million and an average ER30 (engagement rating in 30 days) of 1x, with 1x representing average engagement.
Facebook announced that Jas Athwal, the company’s Chief Accounting Officer, will step down on February 17. A source told the Wall Street Journal that the company will be conducting an external search to replace him. Athwal has been with Facebook since January of 2008.
As part of a restructuring effort to focus on mobile, video and data, AOL has announced layoffs of five percent of its staff. That amounts to about 500 employees. "The layoffs are related to a 2017 strategy where we will add to our business," AOL CEO Tim Armstrong told Recode. "These are super-targeted by area, and we will be re-growing, especially in video and mobile." On the whole, AOL has added more employees than it’s removed this year. Between an advertising deal with Microsoft and the company’s purchase of Millennial Media, AOL had added about 1,500 workers in 2016.
