Hulu is seeking out a fourth corporate overlord. Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Hulu is in talks to potentially sell a stake in the company to Time Warner.  The deal would value Hulu at over $5 billion. As of now, Hulu is jointly owned by Comcast’s NBCUniversal, Disney  and 21st Century Fox. Were Time Warner added to the mix, each company would own 25% of Hulu.
is gearing up for a digital content push, according to Variety. The trade pub reports that the Disney-owned network is prepping a slate of ABC programming that will exist exclusively on the WatchABC app. One project, a short-form scripted comedy starring standup comic Iliza Shlesinger, is already in development. 


Before VR can begin to revolutionize gaming, someone has to develop the games. That’s where companies like CCP Games come in: The creator of the PC game Eve Online has just raised $30 million to continue developing virtual reality games. The company already has two VR games in the works: Eve Valkyrie will launch for the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR in 2016, while Gunjack will launch on the new Samsung Gear VR this month. The funding round was led by New Enterprise Associates; private equity firm Novator Partners participated as well.



Tricon Films & Television has launched the six-episode first season of Sensitive Skin, a new series starring Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrall, exclusively on iTunes. The series centers on a husband and wife who sell their family home to move to a modern condo. Don McKellar co-stars. The premiere episode is available for free. 


The second annual NYC Web Fest, devoted digital series and creators, ran on Friday and Saturday. The festival featured numerous video projects, including the debut of The Mentors, a new comedic web series from rage-fueled funnyman Lewis Black.
Last week, ad tech company Sizmek acquired ad-customization company Pointroll from Cofactor, an ad-tech company owned by Tegna (formerly Gannett). In addition to the $20 million Pointroll acquisition. Cofactor has also appointed Sizmek “as its preferred activation and distribution partner for digital content that Cofactor onboards for its customers,” according to a release from Sizmek.

has begun offering programmatic ads for both native content and mobile video publishers. Publishers can buy the ads through Google’s DoubleClick Ad Exchange. eBay is one of the first publishers to use the new format. The feature is already available for apps, and will be available for cross-screen native ads within the next few months. Google also says it will begin offering full-screen programmatic video ads for mobile devices.
Video engagement platform Viewbix has debuted Viewbix Insights, a real-time analytics dashboard. Marketers can use the tool with the Viewbix Player, the company’s interactive video player. According to a statement from the company, the Insights platform offers more detailed metrics that can help increase ad campaign performance. Those metrics include the percent of video viewed, the time in the video when users take action, and engagement by geography, device type, and distribution network.


Music video platform Vevo launched its new iPhone app, and it’s very different than the Spotify and YouTube Music apps. As part of the onboarding process, users have to identify which music they like and dislike – and they do so by swiping left or right on photos of the artists. (As most reporters have pointed out, the swipe-left-or-right feature is very similar to the way Tinder lets users like or dislike potential matches.) The overhauled app boasts numerous other new features, including a home screen filled with new videos from artists that users have chosen as their favorites. Learn more about the app here.
Sometimes that selfie where you’re vomiting rainbows is just too cool to let go of. Lenses, Snapchat’s bizarre but instantly popular animated selfie feature, has introduced a paid option. Users can now pick from a selection of 30 paid Lenses available each day, and, for the 99-cent fee, keep them forever. The app will still keep a selection of about seven free lenses available each day.
Peel, the app that lets users turn their mobile phones into universal smart-remotes, is integrating streaming platforms into its capabilities. A beta version of its new app allows users to explore select content from Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube on their TV sets (provided that their TV is connected to a streaming device such as Chromecast).

is carving out a nice little spot for himself as the king of branded digital content. First it was Fandango; now the SNL cast-member will star in Help! I’m Turning into My Parents!, The Onion’s new nine-part branded web series. The series is the first product from the satirical news source’s partnership with Anthology, Facebook’s advertising program joining advertisers with digital media partners. In the series, Thompson plays Dr. Jimm, a self-help talk show host. The series was produced by Onion Labs, The Onion’s creative services division, in partnership with Dell, HP, Intel, Lenovo, and Microsoft. (The companies’ products will be featured in the series.) The series, whose first short segment debuted last week, will run through December 15 on The Dr. Jimm Show Facebook page.
