11.11.14

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 11, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

With eyes on the SEC as we hit the tail-end of the college football season, CBS Sports and ESPN laid out broadcast plans for the conference through the end of the year. CBS Sports had already slated this weekend’s Mississippi State/Alabama matchup for Saturday at 3:30p, and will wrap up the regular season with Ole Miss/Arkansas on Nov. 15, Arkansas/Missouri on Nov. 28, the Egg Bowl with Mississippi/Ole Miss on Nov. 29 and wrapping up with the SEC Championship on Dec. 6 at 4p.

ESPN, in turn, will get the Iron Bowl this year, pitting Auburn/Alabama on Nov. 29 at 7:45p. SEC Network will also offer a live alternate presentation to ESPN’s coverage with specific details to be finalized. This will mark the first time ESPN has televised the Iron Bowl since a prime time telecast on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007. Other matchups on the main channel include LSU/Texas A&M on Nov. 27 at 7:30p.

With NASCAR down to its final four with one race remaining in the Chase, ESPN will see SportsCenter follow the quartet of contenders throughout the week as they prepare for Sunday’s Ford Ecoboost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the final race of the season. ESPN reporters will be embedded with the championship contenders during the week. The Wednesday night editions of SportsCenter will air interviews and reports from that evening’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship contender’s press conference in Miami, including the four drivers and their team owners, while Thursday’s SportsCenter reports will follow work back at the race shops and what the drivers are doing in South Florida before on-track action begins Friday. Sunday’s 400-mile race airs live on ESPN with a special two-hour edition of NASCAR Countdown at 1p ahead of the 3:16p green flag.

A mammoth halftime deficit (the largest ever for an NFL primetime game) didn’t do Sunday Night Football any favors on NBC, and marked a dropoff for the season. However, the game still took primetime for the broadcasters, posting an 11.1/18 in Nielsen overnight numbers. Top markets included: Milwaukee 49.2/68; Chicago 26.3/38; Las Vegas 19.7/30; Minneapolis 15.5/24 and Sacramento 13.2/21.

CBS Sports Network is slated to exclusively reveal the future Final Four sites of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship on Friday as part of its Inside College Basketball studio show at 5:30p. Scott Barnes, chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, joins host Dana Jacobson, analyst Mateen Cleaves and insider Gary Parrish to reveal the Final Four locations for 2017-20. The channel then offers a doubleheader pitting Tennessee/VCU at 6:30p and Michigan State/Navy at 9p.

FOX Sports booked its Veteran’s Day plans, announcing that its charitable arm, FOX Sports Supports, will offer a slate of production elements across the NFL on FOX, FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports Regional Networks as part of the annual tribute. Today, around 100 active and reserve military personnel are coming to FOX’s Los Angeles production studio for a lot tour and dinner and will appear on FOX Sports Live. In addition, a special feature piece is slated to air during both America’s Pregame and FOX Sports Live. Other special programming begins at 7p with DRIVEN Brian Stann: All American, profiling the former Marine, Iraq War veteran and Silver Star recipient, mixed-martial artist and current UFC on FOX analyst’s journey through life. At 8p, the network airs Best Ranger Competition  2014followed by the re-air of a Memorial Day Golden Boy Boxing card that was held May 26 from Fort Bliss.

SiriusXM locked in two-time major championship winner John Daly as host of a new show on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio. Hit It Hard with John Daly will debut in December and run as a six-part series on the channel with Daly taking calls from listeners around the country, sharing about his experiences in and out of the sport, and more.
