Pushing the World Series to Game 6, the Cubs win on Sunday delivered a 13.1/21 household rating/share with 23.6 million on FOX to rank as the most-watched World Series Game 5 since 1997, according to Nielsen fast nationals. Combined with FOX Deportes (342,000 viewers) and FOX Sports GO (135,587 average minute audience), World Series Game 5 registered 24.1 million total viewers. Sunday night’s contest is also the highest-rated Game 5 since 2003. Through five games, the 2016 World Series is averaging an 11.0/19 household rating/share with 19.3 million viewers to rank as the most-watched World Series through the first five games since 2004.
Taking second for the evening was NBC’s SNF Eagles/Cowboys battle, which averaged 18 million viewers for the evening. The game also set a Sunday NBC game live stream record (excluding Super Bowls) with 933,000 uniques, up 84% vs. Week 8 in 2015.
Around the dial, the NFL on CBS saw week 8 regional action rise 8% in metered markets to notch an average household rating/share of 10.3/21 over last year’s equitable score. Games included New England/Buffalo, San Diego/Denver, New York Jets/Cleveland, Kansas City/Indianapolis and Oakland/Tampa Bay.
Anchored by the participation of California Chrome, the running of the 33rd Breeders’ Cup Classic hits NBC on Saturday at 8p. NBCSN’s coverage of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships begins Thursday at 7p with handicapping special “Betting The Breeders’ Cup.” Coverage is hosted by Mike Tirico, who joins Jerry Bailey along with Randy Moss; contributing analysts/handicappers Bob Neumeier and Eddie Olczyk; host/reporter Laffit Pincay, III; and reporters Kenny Rice, Donna Brothers, Jay Privman, Nick Luck, and Carolyn Manno. NBC’s Triple Crown race caller Larry Collmus will call all of the Breeders’ Cup races.
NBA TV hits its first NBA TV Fan Night presented by Verizon doubleheader of the season tonight beginning with the Autotrader Pregame Show at 5:30p. Coverage then tips off at 6p with Rockets/Cavs followed by Warriors/Trail Blazers at 10p.
Longhorn Network announced plans to debut Texas Cheer on Thursday at 7p CT, with the doc offering viewers “an intimate and up-close look at what it takes to become a part of the prestigious University of Texas Spirit Squad.” “Texas Cheer reveals the challenges faced by UT students who aspire to become a part of these elite athletic groups-showing both rookies and veterans as they compete for a chance to be a part of Longhorn game day and join one of the most celebrated cheer teams in the nation,” said Alyssa Reese, Spirit Program Director, UT Athletics.

GEICO was named the presenting sponsor of the inaugural Never Forget Tribute Classic, an annual NCAA men’s basketball doubleheader on Dec. 10 at Prudential Center in Newark. The event will feature Villanova/Notre Dame at noon on CBS Sports, followed by Pitt/Penn State on CBS Sports Network at 3p. As the presenting sponsor, GEICO receives category exclusivity, on-court and in-arena branding, on-site marketing activation and marketing assets across all event channels. Per the agreement, GEICO will also receive multiple television spots during the CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network broadcasts of the doubleheader.
WWE announced that WWE Network continues to grow, stating in its quarterly earning call that the platform saw subscription revenue grow 18% to hit $42.8 million for the period. “We expect continued year-over-year growth in subscribers and profits for the fourth quarter resulting in strong full year performance that is in-line with our previous business outlook,” said WWE chief strategy and financial officer George Barrios. Meanwhile, the company saw WrestleMania 31 honored by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts W3 Awards as “best in show” in the Social Content and Marketing category; marking the first-ever Best In Show award won by WWE.
