EBay has reached a deal to sell its StubHub ticketing business to Geneva, Switzerland-headquartered Viagogo for $4.05 billion . EBay bought StubHub, which represented about 14% of its parent’s $2.6 billion in revenues during the third quarter, in 2007 for $310 million. The deal creates a ticket reselling giant in the sports and entertainment space spanning both sides of the Atlantic, as StubHub does most of its business in North America, while Viagogo provides similar services in the U.K. and Europe. Together, the companies will sell tickets across more than 70 countries, as they reach deeper into the $10 billion global resale market. The StubHub sale emanates from a broader review of eBay’s businesses, as the e-commmerce giant announced in March that it was initiating a strategic examination of its assets, following pressure from activist investors.
FOX, as expected given the strong metered markets results, scored its top NFL and college football telecasts of the year last weekend. New England/Dallas averaged 29.5 million viewers on Nov. 24,.ranking it as the top NFL game of the season to date. The day before, Ohio State/Penn State drew over 9.4 million viewers, the network’s best college telecast and the sport’s second-most-watched game of the season.
ESPN’s Monday Night Football presentation of “The Jackson Five” averaged nearly 11.1 million viewers on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Coverage of Baltimore’s 45-6 beat-down of the Los Angeles Rams – Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown passes – helped ESPN win the night across broadcast and cable TV among viewers, as well as male and adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 demos.
Beth Mowins come on down. The first woman to call a nationally televised NFL game – she worked with analyst Rex Ryan on the Chargers/Broncos Monday Night Football opener in 2017 – is taking her talent to a new realm, as she becomes the first person to provide play-by-play for The Price is Right and its famous wheel, part of its showcase showdown. Mowins, who accepted host Drew Carey’s invitation, chronicled the action during the taping of college football-themed version of the game show that will air Nov. 27 at 11a, ahead of the sports’s conference rivalry weekend.
NBSCN on Nov. 27 at 10:30p will air NBC Sports Regional Networks’ documentary about mental health and sports, leading out from the national cable network’s Wednesday Night Hockey match between Philadelphia/Columbus.
