Anne With an E won’t see a fourth season. Netflix and Canadian broadcaster CBC have decided not to move forward with the drama from Northwood Entertainment. Series creator and EP Moira Walley-Beckett confirmed the cancellation on Instagram. The show’s third and final season premieres Friday, January 3 on Netflix.
Advertising inventory on Fox’s Super Bowl LIV broadcast, set for Sunday, February 2 in Miami, has sold out, and rates are nearly 6% higher than the previous edition on CBS. The highest price for a 30-second ad is $5.6 million, versus the $5.3 million topper for Super Bowl LIII.
LL Cool J has been tapped to host the 42nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors, airing Sunday, December 15 on CBS. “He’s the absolute renaissance man: musical artist, producer, actor, author, fashion icon, Grammy winner and a 2017 Kennedy Center honoree,” said Jack Sussman, EVP, Specials, Music and Live Events, CBS Entertainment.

CBS Corporation and Viacom Inc. announced that their pending merger is expected to close after market hours on Wednesday, December 4. Immediately following said closing, the company will be renamed ViacomCBS Inc.
The American Society of Cinematographers revealed its documentary and television nominees for the 34th Annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards, taking place Saturday, January 25 in Los Angeles. Nominees in the newly created documentary category include, Honeyland, Anthropocene: The Human Epoch and Obscuro Barroco. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Handmaid’s Tale are among the series in the Non-Commercial Television category, while FX’s Legion garnered two nominations in the Commercial Television category. Other highlights: AMC’s The Terror: Infamy and CBS All Access’ new take on The Twilight Zone are among those in the Motion Picture, Miniseries, or Pilot Made for Television category.
For the first time, The 51st NAACP Image Awards will air on BET Networks , reports Deadline. Ceremony honors the accomplishments of people of color in television, music, literature and film, as well as individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors. The two-hour telecast airs live from Pasadena, CA on Saturday, February 22 at 8p.
Gretchen Morgenson, senior special writer in the investigations unit at The Wall Street Journal, is joining NBC News as Senior Financial Reporter, effective December 2. She will lead reporting on the intersection of money and power.
Meanwhile, over at CBS NEWS, Meg Oliver has been named a correspondent and will be based in New York. Oliver has been with CBS Newspath, the newsgathering service for CBS stations and international broadcasters, for two years. This marks Oliver’s second stint at CBS News – she originally joined the network in 2006 as overnight anchor of Up to the Minute and as a correspondent for The Early Show.
CBS Studios says a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former top reality executive is “without merit” and claims that Ghen Maynard was not terminated but that his contract was not renewed. Maynard filed a lawsuit on Monday claiming the network conducted a biased investigation into “a false and ludicrous allegation that he mistreated a female coworker on the writing team.”

Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures is adapting Derek Owusu’s forthcoming book, Teaching My Brother To Read , for television. The book, which was originally planned as an idea for a podcast, follows Owusu as he tries to connect with his brother, who was increasingly getting into trouble, by offering him money for every book he reads.
Red Arrow Studios International sold Vienna Blood to PBS in the U.S. The six-part crime drama, written by Steven Thompson (Sherlock, Deep State), is based on the best-selling Liebermann novels by Frank Tallis.
Freeform bought music drama Demo from writer Joy Gregory (Madam Secretary, Switched at Birth), The Chainsmokers’ Kick The Habit Productions and Greg Silverman’s Stampede Ventures. Written by Gregory, the project follows a 20-something musician who leaves behind her struggling indie rock band and her working-class family to try writing pop songs in LA.
CBS greenlit Never Tell, a drama based on the book of the same title by Selena Montgomery (nom de plume for Stacey Abrams). Project hails from writer Talicia Raggs (NCIS: New Orleans), Abrams and Nina Tassler, and Denise Di Novi’s Pat Ma Productions, in which CBS has an ownership stake and Pat Ma has a first-look agreement. Written by Raggs, series revolves around a star linguistics professor with a complicated past, who joins forces with a charismatic online investigative journalist following the discovery of a cryptic message that is the only clue in a missing persons case.
Dane Dehaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets) is set as a lead opposite Julianne Moore and Clive Owen in Lisey’s Story, Apple’s eight-hour limited series written and executive produced by Stephen King. From J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Lisey’s Story follows Lisey (Moore) two years after the death of her husband (Owen), when a series of events causes her to begin facing certain realities about her husband that she had repressed and forgotten.
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
Science Channel’s Impossible Engineering is back Wednesday, January 1 at 9p. This season, viewers will journey to Dubai, London, Whistler, Rotterdam and beyond as experts examine engineering marvels around the world.
For the first time, Alton Brown joins Anne Burrell to transform a roster of terrible cooks into culinary shape in the new season of Worst Cooks in America. Series returns Sunday, January 5 at 9p.
A slew of music industry icons and visionaries , including Elton John, James Brown, Dick Clark and Richard Pryor, will be portrayed in the second season of American Soul. The Don Cornelius-infused period drama is set to premiere on BET in 2020, according to Deadline.
COMING UP
Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black) interviews Lupita Nyong’o on the season finale of Ovation TV’s Inside the Actors Studio, airing Sunday, December 15 at 10p.
AXS TV and Fight Network present a special live broadcast of Combate Americas on Friday, December 13 at 10p. The night gives Mixed Martial Arts fans a preview of the nets’ Combate Americas coverage that will consist of 35 live events, next year.
Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley, founding members of rock band America , join Dan Rather on The Big Interview airing Wednesday, November 27 at 8p on AXS TV. The pair discuss the impact of The Beatles’ groundbreaking performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, and how it shaped them as aspiring musicians.
TNT begins a special BatWeek of programming on Monday, November 25 at 8p. The net will air the 90’s movies as well as The Dark Knight trilogy starring the caped crusader. In partnership with DC, custom Jim Lee illustrations will air within each film.
Sportsman Channel continues its annual hunting pilgrimage with Racksgiving presented by OnX. The event, which began on Monday, showcases five nights of hunting shows celebrating successes and misses. It also airs Tuesday, November 26, Wednesday, November 27 and Friday, November 29 at 8p, and Saturday, November 30 at 5p.

Industries remained consistent regarding percentage of spending on TV in November, with autos hovering around 8%, insurance inching up from 6.2 to 7%, and department stores down slightly, but still a round 4%. New to the top ten list are online commerce sites like Amazon and Wayfair, which are up from $87 million in the first 24 days of November 2018 to $113 million through November 24, 2019. With over 9.2 billion TV impressions on $113.3 million in spending online, retail is up this year driven in large part by Amazon.
STREAMING
With 3 million subscribers, Netflix has become the second largest pay TV platform in Spain , behind Movistar, according to El Espanol. In four years, the streaming service has surpassed the combined subscriber numbers of Vodafone, Orange and Euskaltel.
CBS began rolling out a slew of kids’ content on CBS All Access on Monday. Titles from its library of Nickelodeon programming will start rolling out in January.
Season 2 of British comedy Sex Education debuts on Netflix on Friday, January 17. The show stars Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield.
Disney+’s The Mandalorian is officially the most in-demand TV series across all platforms , less than two weeks after its premiere. Parrot Analytics’ latest weekly insights report revealed that the series nearly tripled its demand week-over-week, ending Stranger Things’ 21-week reign as America’s most in-demand digital exclusive series.

Facebook has debuted Viewpoints, an app that rewards users for taking part in surveys, tasks and research. “We believe the best way to make products better is to get insights directly from people who use them,” explained Facebook’s product manager Erez Naveh; the data collected by the new app will be used to improve Facebooks own platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp, Portal, Oculus and its flagship app. Facebook is emphasizing user privacy, promising to be clear about what information the app collects, how it will be used, and how many “points” users” will receive in exchange for their opinions.
Google rolled out a new privacy tool that will enable web advertisers and publishers that use Google’s ad service to curb behavioral targeting. The “restricted data processing” tool is targeted toward helping web companies comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act, which is set to take effect in January, and allows consumers to opt out of the sale or transfer of their data. “When you enable restricted data processing, Google will limit how it uses data. Certain features will be unavailable, including adding users to remarketing lists, adding users to similar audience remarketing seed lists, and related functionality,” the company said in a blog post. “For App campaigns, enabling restricted data processing may mean that the users who install your app will continue to see ads for that app following installation.”

Tony Award winner Katrina Lenk (The Band’s Visit) nabbed a recurring role in CBS’ upcoming midseason drama series Tommy… Amy Seimetz boarded CBS Studios miniseries based on the James Comey bestseller A Higher Loyalty.
Mickey Mouse and his pals usher in new stop-motion on-air interstitials that begin rolling out Saturday, November 30 at 9:25a on Disney Junior , with subsequent airings on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. A collaboration between Disney Junior and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, the interstitials find Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy and Pluto celebrating the holidays together with a visit to a wintery cabin where they’re met with the magic of the season.
GOING GLOBAL
Poker Central has expanded to the Land Down Under. Super High Roller Bowl Australia and the Australian Poker Open are both slated for January 2020. Both events will stream exclusively on OTT streaming service PokerGO, and will take place at The Star Gold Coast in Broadbeach Queensland.
The BBC acquired the UK rights to Hulu’s Shrill. The British public broadcaster will air the Aidy Bryant-fronted comedy series, from Warner Bros. Television, on BBC Three network.
Starz announced the roll-out of the all-new international STARZPLAY app in Brazil, France, Germany, Mexico and the UK. There are plans for the app to launch in an additional 20 countries in 2020.
