Fox Television Stations is onboard as launch group for  syndicated talker Nick Cannon, premiering in September 2020. Fox will provide double runs of the live-to-tape daily daytime show in markets including New York, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco. “We need to take big swings, and Nick Cannon should be a natural fit with our lineups,” said Frank Cicha, EVP of programming for ox Television Stations. “Plus, he can help me a lot in our Masked Singer office pool.” Cannon’s production company, Ncredible Entertainment, and Debmar-Mercury will co-produce.

In more syndication news, The Kelly Clarkson Show earned a (not unsurprising) early renewal from NBCUniversal . The talker is delivering bigger ratings than any other newcomer on daytime, and had the strongest start for any new first-run strip in seven years, with an average 1.9 million viewers per episode. The show is in fourth place among all syndicated talk shows.

Sony Pictures Entertainment acquired AT&T’s minority stake in Game Show Network , giving SPE 100% of the company. “We’re excited to bring Game Show Network fully into the Sony Pictures Entertainment portfolio,” said Mike Hopkins, Chairman, Sony Pictures Television. “The acquisition allows us to work more closely with the company’s talented team to deliver the best iconic game shows, develop and syndicate new game show IP for audiences across the nation, as well as to advance the fast-growing GSN Games business, all of which directly aligns with our strategy of developing targeted direct-to-consumer offerings.” As for AT&T’s strategy, the deal fits with the plan to monetize non-strategic assets. Before the transaction, SPE owned a 58% stake in GSN.

James Holzhauer, the Jeopardy! champ who just cleaned up on the game show’s Tournament of Champions , will face off against the only two contestants (Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter) who have won more money on the show than he has. The action jumps to ABC for multi-night event Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time, premiering Tuesday, January 7 at 8p, with Alex Trebek as host. “We’re excited to bring Jeopardy! to primetime! It’s been a long time in the making – we wanted to create a unique experience sure to wow not just our fans, but all audiences,” said Mike Hopkins, Chairman, Sony Pictures Television.

Billionaire John Malone acquired over 2.6 million new shares in Discovery , at $28.03 per, bringing his total direct ownership to 10.23 million shares. The company’s shares were up nearly 4% in mid-day trading on Monday.

Taylor Swift can perform her old hits on ABC’s American Music Awards , according to a statement from Swift’s former label, Big Machine Label Group. Swift had suggested Big Machine was preventing her from playing her old material; Big Machine contends it never was going to keep her from performing, and has now “come to terms on a licensing agreement” allowing the Shake It Off singer’s performances on post-show and on mutually approved platforms. Swift will be recognized at Sunday’s event as Artist of the Decade.

Facebook has no plans to start fact-checking its political ads , said VP of Global Marketing Solutions Carol Everson at the Code Media conference. “Once you say to somebody ‘Do you really want [Facebook CEO] Mark Zuckerberg or a Facebook executive to be the arbiter of political truth?’ The answer is typically no,” Everson said. Facebook has been criticized for its decision not to regulate political advertising.

Everyone’s got too much television to watch, even if you’re not a television fan. The market is sated with stuff,” said BBC Studios CEO Tim Davie at the Confederation of British Industry conference. At the end of the day, the winning services will be the ones serving the right cocktail of quality output, personalization and curation, said Davie.

Fans of Rick and Morty can get behind the wheel of a car that has a giant fiberglass Morty on the roof. The vehicle will be available in multiple cities throughout season four of the animated comedy, via Adult Swim and car-sharing service Turo. “The larger-than-life Morty is fixed atop a 2010 Crystal White Pearl Mica Mazda 3,” according to Turo. “The 5-door hatchback boasts a 2.5L four-cylinder engine with 167 horsepower, a four-speaker audio system for bumping the planet-rescuing slapper, ‘Get Schwifty,’ and power windows.”

Disney+, which had 10 million subscribers sign up in the first 24 hours, is “off to a good start,” acknowledged WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey at the Code Media conference. But the strategy for HBO Max, set to launch in the spring, is different. “We start with a little different position with a different product… we’d like to see as many HBO customers migrate as possible,” said Stankey, who said he expects getting viewers to move from HBO to HBO Max shouldn’t be a stretch, since the new streamer will have the same price, but twice the content.

At least $200 million will be spent on fake election-related news in the US alone in 2020, according to a report from Cheq. Cheg’s estimate of $200 million spent to promote fake news next time around assumes that levels of fake news have reduced slightly to around 2% of all political news, and is based on projected spending of $10 billion in the 2020 presidential election cycle.

Vobile, provider of video content protection services to entertainment studios and TV networks , announced the completion of its acquisition of Zefr’s Rights ID and Channel ID businesses. The acquired Rights ID and Channel ID businesses focus on content monetization and viewer engagement maximization. “This is an exciting milestone for Vobile, as we round out the world’s leading video content protection and monetization platform at a time when major media companies are redefining video distribution models with the launch of direct-to-consumer (DTC) subscription services,” said Yangbin Wang, CEO and Founder of Vobile. “Stopping online piracy to minimize subscription revenue loss and leveraging social media influencer marketing to maximize subscriber base are critically important to the success of DTC businesses.”

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced the National Security and Personal Data Protection Act , aimed at curbing the flow of data to countries that pose national security threats. True Budget works within Microsoft Excel and runs on both Windows & Mac operating systems; the first version is free to all users until the end of 2020.  “I had two main reasons for creating True Budget,” said Matt Compton, an LA-based producer and production supervisor. “The first was that, as a Windows user, I was frustrated that I could not use one of the more established budgeting programs used by many of my peers. I wanted to create an Excel-based solution that worked not only on Mac, but also on Windows. Secondly, I wanted to make my job easier.”
