TECH TALK

Instagram is expanding a test that will make like counts private globally. The photo sharing service began hiding like counts for a subset of its users in Canada, this spring, and followed it up in countries, including Brazil, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Last week, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that like counts would be hidden from some users in the U.S. this week. The reason for the test is that hiding likes could make Instagram less of a popularity contest, and instead lead to healthier conversations. However, it isn’t getting rid of likes altogether.
