A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM NAT GEO WILD
Nat Geo WILD is a TOP TEN network on Saturday night! (P25-54) The Incredible Dr. Pol was the HIGHEST-RATED PROGRAM from 9-10P

On the heels of HBO‘s announcement of a plan to offer a Web-based service that won’t require a cable or satellite TV subscription, CBS Corporation‘s Showtime is considering following suit. “We are always looking at ways of expanding our audience and it is certainly something that we have been examining for some time,” Showtime said in a statement. “The subscription model is ideally positioned to take advantage of developing technologies in the consumer marketplace.”
The official cause of Joan Rivers‘ death has been determined by the New York City medical examiner’s office. The legendary comedienne died following “a predictable complication” during a medical procedure that led to a loss of oxygen to her brain. Rivers was undergoing a laryngoscopy and an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at Yorkville Endoscopy in New York on August 28, when the fatal complication occurred. Rivers died September 4.
Twin Peaks, which will make its return on Showtime in 2016 – 25 years after its debut – has yet another “project” on the horizon: a book by Mark Frost, co-creator and executive producer of the cult fave TV series with David Lynch (the duo are onboard for the revival, too). Flatiron Books will publish “The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks,” an inside look at what happened to the characters of the fictional town, slated for a late 2015 release.
An item in the October 14 issue of Cynopsis cited research from MoffattNathanson that pointed to Adult Swim as being up 23 percent in ad count versus 3Q13. Turner points out that the report did not consider that Adult Swim added an extra hour of programming in 2Q14, starting its telecast at 8p instead of 9p. In an average hour, the net’s non-program time has remained the same year over year in Total Day, and is down by 8 seconds in Prime Time.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Medicine Man [wt], a reality show about the family behind the largest single dispensary of marijuana in Colorado, has been ordered to pilot by truTV. It’s the first series on the subject since marijuana was legalized in Colorado in January.
Armie Hammer is set to produce a TV comedy project at NBC. The untitled series focuses on a guy who’s stunned to learn his parents have been secretly seeing his ex-girlfriend since he broke up with her. The plot is inspired by the true stories of Hammer, his wife Elizabeth Chambers and film producer Gordon Gray.
R.J. Cutler is collaborating with CBS on a new police drama dealing with the subject of police and race. Cutler will direct and executive produce the as-yet-untitled project. It marks his first sale under the first-look pact he signed with CBS TV Studios in the spring.
HBO hit Game of Thrones is about to give viewers a glimpse into its characters’ pasts, with its first-ever flashback in Season Five. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed the news during a Q&A with film students in Spain, where the show is currently filming. Drama returns to HBO next spring.
Sportsman weeklong docuseries Hog Dawgs features female enforcers eliminating nuisances like feral pigs, alligators and snakes. “Hog Dawgs is not an ordinary job, and these are not ordinary women,” said exec producer Jackie Porter. Show airs at 7p Monday, October 27-Friday, October 31.
KCET will celebrate its golden anniversary with KCET: 50 Years at the Forefront. The 60-minute special brings viewers on a half-century journey through KCET’s history, with footage of nostalgic and defining moments from specials and series, featuring interviews from voices of KCET’s past and present, including Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, journalist Bill Moyers and NBC4’s Fritz Coleman, on Monday, October 20 at 8p.
Season 3 of Netflix‘s original drama Lilyhammer debuts Friday, November 21 at 12:01a. When the series returns, gangster Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano (Steven Van Zandt) helps Roar (Steinar Sagen) with a legal issue, after Roar travels to Brazil to meet his (uh-oh) Internet bride.
Frank Langella has been tapped for a recurring role in the third season of FX drama The Americans. Langella will play Gabriel, Philip and Elizabeth’s former KGB handler, who comes out of retirement to take back responsibility for overseeing the two KGB operatives. “We’ve been huge fans of Frank’s work for a long time, and it’s been such a pleasure getting to know Frank himself in the beginning stages of working together on the character of Gabriel,” said Executive Producers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields. “We look forward to a great season together.”
