VIDEOS IN SHORT

Short form video is booming, but there’s still an untapped area producers should be exploring, says Jason Harris, director of customer success at Wochit. “What’s the one thing that everyone, everywhere, likely talks about, thinks about, and even ‘researches’ at least once per day? THE WEATHER,” says Harris, a juror for the Cynopsis Short Form Video Festival. “Yes, we see mobile journalism during disasters like hurricanes, but otherwise, we don’t see a lot of everyday, weather-related, short-form videos. But it interests everyone, constantly.”

Content creators can really capitalize on this built-in interest, adds Harris, and short can mean really short. “As in, you don’t need a five-minute YouTube episode – more in the vein of an Instagram story,” he explains. “If you infuse personality and angle into your video and make it about how your audience should prepare for the day, you’ve got something unique and engaging for which you know there’s a demand. And if you add a touch of extra color and fun using an element like an animated GIF, you can further set your series apart as unique, inspirational, and healthfully habit-forming.” For details, or to submit a video to the Cynopsis Short Form Video Festival (submissions close this week!) go here.

Viacom International Media Networks greenlit 5 original short form series that include Sharkdog and Moosebox, the first international short form animated series to come out of Nickelodeon’s annual Global Animated Shorts Program. Also ordered were second seasons of Comedy Central International’s Absolutely Fine, Share This and Bad Snappers.

Kym Whitley (Young & Hungry) will host the 12th Annual NBCUniversal Short Film Festival on Wednesday, October 18 in Hollywood. Awards in 8 categories will be presented. ADVERTISING & BRANDS

Advanced advertising will be one of the hot topics at NAB NY this week. Bill Wise, CEO and co-founder of Mediaocean and Jay Prasad, chief strategy officer at VideoAmp, will be participating in Wednesday’s panel, “How Advanced Advertising Will Grow and Unite It with Digital.” What’s on the agenda? “Media convergence isn’t a buying problem – it’s a planning and measurement problem,” Wise tells Cynopsis. “The unification of data across linear TV and digital is incredibly difficult and the industry is crowded with ideas that are more art than science. That is why Mediaocean is happy to partner with VideoAmp to help bring a viable solution to market that will create a unified marketplace design for TV and online video.” Says Prasad, “NAB NY is a great place to further the conversation and actually make some headway on converging the market place. Our panel aims to do just that.”
