IN THE NEWS

Rupert Murdoch is considering reuniting News Corp. and Fox Corp. The companies, which were split in 2013, have formed a special committee to review proposals of a potential combination. “At News Corp., we are constantly pursuing ways to enhance our performance and expand our businesses, and the upheaval in media presents both challenges and opportunities,” wrote News Corp. CEO Robert Thomson in a memo. “However, I would like to stress that the Special Committee has not made any determination at this time, and there can be no certainty that any transaction will result from its evaluation.” News Corp. owns publishing titles including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post and London-based tabloid The Sun, while Fox Corp. encompasses Fox News and Fox Sports.

“Sheer joy, that’s what we’ve been seeing all weekend long.” That’s how Jamie Cutburth, SVP of One Platform Creative and Development at NBCUniversal, described the atmosphere at BravoCon, which returned to NYC’s Javits Center for the first time since 2019. “Bravoholics” flocked to the three-day event for what Ann Scheiner, NBCU EVP of Agency Partnerships, called the “ultimate connection” for advertisers, noting, “Not all viewers are fans, but all fans are viewers.”

Peacock took advantage of BravoCon to unveil an interactive video feature that allows users to immerse themselves directly into the storytelling. Built with customizable capabilities that enhance new content discovery and choice, the streaming feature was on display to select attendees. “Combining culture-defining content with cutting-edge innovation, this experience is about giving fans the choice to dive deeper into the most dramatic Housewives moments on their own terms,” said John Jelley, SVP, Product & UX, Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer, NBCUniversal. “It transforms viewing into an interactive journey of discovery and personalization through multiple vantage points.”

Speaking of Bravo’s Housewives, news broke over the weekend that a spinoff series of “The Real Housewives of New York” is on the way. The original show’s Sonja Morgan and Luann de Lesseps team for “Luann and Sonja: Welcome to Crapple Lake,” following the socialites as they work to spiff up the small town of Benton, Illinois.

Heavy is “The Crown” for Netflix right now. Season five of the drama series, which includes the ugly chapter of the divorce of the Prince and Princess of Wales, is slated to premiere November 5. But the recent death of Queen Elizabeth has provoked commentary in the UK that the timing would be inappropriate; Jemima Khan, who was attached as a consultant to the show, requested that her name be removed, once she learned of the subject matter. Netflix had also expected to debut a documentary about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in December, but Harry and Meghan have reportedly asked for a possible postponement until next year.

The Ad Council is launching a 5-week career accelerator program today, providing 15 students and graduates from HBCUs with education and hands on experience in adtech, analytics, communications, creative development, influencers, media, research, social, strategy and more. dentsu, LiquidSoul, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and Makers are among the companies involved with the initiative.

Inclusive marketing—not just to Hispanics—is no longer just nice to have,” says Donne Speciale, President, US Advertising Sales and Marketing for TelevisaUnivision. “Even so, there are hundreds of marketers, if not thousands, that still do not lean into marketing to Hispanics. This is particularly critical when seeking to engage with the 31 million Latina consumers in this country who deserve to be seen, heard and recognized for the massive growth they are contributing to the US economy.” Find out what Speciale is doing about that, in the latest Cynsiders.
