10/09/18: Daytona inked a presenting sponsorship for Speedweeks

Good morning. It’s Tuesday October 9, 2018 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Daytona International Speedway and Florida Hospital, which will soon be rebranded as AdventHealth, announced an expansion of their relationship, making the health system the official presenting sponsor of DAYTONA Speedweeks. With this expanded multi-year partnership, DAYTONA Speedweeks will now be referred to as DAYTONA Speedweeks Presented By AdventHealth. “Florida Hospital has been an ideal partner for Daytona International Speedway,” track president Chip Wile said. “To be able to expand our partnership to now include the DAYTONA Speedweeks brand will provide another platform for Florida Hospital to amplify their new name.”

NBC’s Sunday Night Football saw a Cowboys/Texans OT battle hand the franchise with its fourth consecutive week of double digit increases over 2017 numbers, with a 12.4/22 in overnight Nielsen numbers. That is up 17% from last year’s Week 5 and marks the best Week 5 overnight for NBC SNF since 2015.
In baseball numbers, the Braves Game 3 win over the Dodgers on Sunday averaged over 3 million viewers for FS1, to rank as the channel’s top Sunday night prime average since last year. That tally is up 36% from last year’s carriage of the Cardinals/Dodgers NLDS Game 3, with an additional average minute audience of 60,349 on streaming platforms.
Around the dial, MLB Network is touting that its coverage of the Brewers/Rockies Game 3 drew an average of two million viewers, to rank as the channel’s fourth-best MLB game telecast ever. The game drew a 22.5 22.5 local market number in Milwaukee, which is the best local rating for any market in channel history.
NBC Sports reports that NBCSN notched the network’s best-ever Total Day and primetime viewership through the end of the third quarter. According to live plus same day data from Nielsen, staple events such as the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games and coverage of the NHL, NASCAR, Premier League, IndyCar, Tour de France, rugby, horse racing, and Olympic and college sports pushed the channel to rank as the number two sports cable network in Total Day and primetime viewership for the period. NBCSN is averaging a record 480,000 primetime viewers this year, up 36% from the same time period last year, and is up 8% from the network’s prior record set in 2016, which featured the Rio Olympics. The channel is also averaging a record 206,000 Total Day viewers.
Asia’s largest global sports media property ONE Championship unveiled that it has closed a $166 million Series D financing round led by Sequoia Capital. New investors, including Temasek, Greenoaks Capital, and other leading institutional investors, also participated in the round. ONE now has a total capital base that tops $250 million.
CBS Sports locked in its SEC on CBS football game for Oct. 20, at 3:30p, picking up Alabama/Tennessee. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and reporter Jamie Erdahl call the contest from Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
The IOC selected its first-ever African host of any Olympics, awarding the 2022 Youth Games to Senegal. The AP reports that Senegal will host the youth games in three places: Dakar; a new city of Diamniadio, close to the capital; and the coastal resort of Saly with the game to be held in May or June.

The National Football League announced that GoUSA TV will serve as presenter of the London Games Kickoff Concert through its sponsorship of the NFL London Games. The concert will feature Jess Glynne and is part of a fan experience highlighting how music, sports, food, and tradition continue to shape American culture and travel. The London Games Kickoff Concert presented by GoUSA TV will take place Oct. 14 at Wembley Stadium.
The NBA tipped off the fourth annual Jr. NBA Week (running through Oct. 15) with the launch of “Her Time To Play,” the league’s new initiative to inspire girls ages 7-14 to learn and play basketball in a positive and healthy way, and increase opportunities for women in coaching and athletic leadership. All 30 NBA teams will host basketball events and programs for local youth and communities to celebrate Jr. NBA Week, including special activities to tip off Her Time To Play.
Arsenal inked a new kit sponsorship deal with adidas which is expected to be worth around $78 million per year and replacing Puma as the club’s partner. Arsenal confirmed the deal on Twitter on Monday, saying it will go into effect on July 1 next year.
Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment and Rider University Athletics announced an agreement granting VWSE Collegiate Services exclusive rights to represent the Rider Athletics to negotiate corporate sponsorships and media sales. In addition to selling and managing Rider’s broadcast and digital media assets, VWSE will negotiate and execute corporate partnerships around properties including the Broncs’ in-venue signage, on- and off-campus promotions, rights to athletic marks and in-venue hospitality packages.

The NFL reports that – through week 4 – consumption of NFL games on digital is up 65% over 2017 numbers, with an average minute audience of 326,000 viewers per game window on the slate of digital platforms. Growth is anchored by streaming on phones and connected TV devices, where the average audience is up 147% and 54% respectively.

Overwatch League’s Chinese site reportedly unveiled the schedule plan for season two of the league. Dexerto writes that the site stated that the new season would launch on Feb. 14, which is a month later than the inaugural season last January. In addition, teams will now only play a total of 28 games during the span, less that year one’s 40 matches. The season would still be divided into four Stages, with each running for five weeks, although breaks between stages will be extended. In addition, the Pacific Division will now include expansion teams Vancouver, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou, while Paris, Toronto, Washington D.C., and Atlanta head to the Atlantic Division.
Red Bull Conquest revealed plans for the Red Bull Conquest National Finals in Washington, D.C. and running Nov. 16-18 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Top regional fighting game champions from 15 U.S. cities and online will face off in one final battle with contenders from Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, TEKKEN 7, and Guilty Gear Xrd REV2. The fighting game weekend will provide something for competitors and spectators alike, including a way to experience Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, TEKKEN 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd REV2 like never before with special Augmented Reality (AR) activations provided by Artechouse.

ISM Raceway announced the promotion of Kristin Miller to Senior Manager of Partnership Marketing. In her new role, Miller will drive the account management team and continue to assist the sales team in the business development process. Additionally, she will be leading a team that will include the Partnership Marketing Coordinator, a position that is currently open at ISM Raceway.
