Lachlan Murdoch lands on top as chairman and CEO of the company that announced it will be called just “Fox” after 21st Century Fox sells the majority of its assets to Disney in a $71.3 billion deal. Murdoch’s portfolio will include Fox Sports, Fox Broadcasting Network, Fox News and the Fox Business Network. Fox continues to realign its executive roster in the months ahead of the merger. In the most recent  promotions, Eric Shanks is elevated to CEO of Fox Sports from his current role of president, COO and executive producer, Fox Sports. Mike Biard rises to president, operations and distribution for Fox from his previous post as president, distribution for Fox Networks Group. Paul Cheesbrough is promoted to CTO and head of direct to consumer platforms for Fox, and Steve Tomsic is elevated CFO of Fox from his current role of EVP, finance and deputy CFO. The most recent moves come on the heels of Marianne Gambelli’s announced promotion to president of ad sales for Fox. As reported, Fox TV Group chairman/CEO Gary Newman is negotiating to stay with the company.

Brad Kern, former showrunner of NCIS: New Orleans, is out at CBS Television Studios, which said it ended his role as a consulting producer on the show as well as his overall studio deal. Kern’s dismissal comes after reports in December 2017 he had been the subject of two HR investigations by CBS TV Studios that focused on allegations of sexual harassment, discrimination against women, and racially charged comments.
 
Time’s Up has found its first CEO. Lisa Borders, former president of the WNBA, will serve as organization’s first president/CEO beginning November 1. Borders, who also has served as VP of global community affairs at The Coca-Cola Co. and chair of the Coca-Cola Foundation, will lead the organization’s work to ensure equal opportunity and protection for all working women, transforming the current unprecedented cultural moment into meaningful and institutionalized change across culture, companies and laws.
 
Amazon is elevating the minimum wage it pays all workers to $15 an hour in the US beginning in November. The wage boost will affect more than 350,000 employees across full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal positions with the company. Amazon has taken criticism for its compensation practices from Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT), among others.

This month Disney|ABC Television talent are rallying behind National Bullying Prevention Month and encouraging viewers to #ChooseKindness. Along with nonprofit partners GLSEN, GLAAD, PACER, ESPN’s “Shred Hate” campaign, No Bully and Common Sense Media, the multiplatform initiative, now in its sixth year, focuses on inspiring families and change-makers to put an end to bullying in their communities and online. Ryan Seacrest and Carrie Underwood are among key spokespeople for the PSAs.

HBO gave a series order to Danny McBride-created half-hour comedy The Righteous Gemstones, about a televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work. John Goodman stars as patriarch Eli Gemstone.
 
Several new series are in the works at Amazon. In development is an untitled comedy from Whitney Cummings, co-creator of 2 Broke Girls, and Empire co-creator Lee Daniels that centers on the staff of the Ombudsman’s office at a college that navigates PC culture and the #metoo climate. Cummings will play the lead. Project is from Fox 21 TV Studios and Amazon Studios… Also, Mark Burnett’s endurance race competition show Eco-Challenge got a 10-episode order. Series will be hosted by Bear Grylls, host of Man Vs Wild and Running Wild star, and produced by MGM Television… And also getting a series order is an adaptation of Robert Jordan tome The Wheel of Time. Amazon Prime Video will launch the one-hour series, adapted by Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Chuck). It will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios.
 
Neil Gaiman, creator of Amazon’s Good Omens and American Gods, among other network series including Fox’s Lucifer, is going to sit tight at Amazon after striking an overall deal with Amazon Studios to create series earmarked for Amazon Prime Video.

James Wan and his Atomic Monster shingle are onboard to exec produce Night Vision, a 13-ep competition horror reality series to be produced by Magical Elves and slated for a 2019 premiere from Warner Bros. Digital Networks’ Stage 13. Thirteen filmmakers will be chosen by a panel of horror directors, writers and executives, and will have to create the scariest short films possible. Winner gets a deal at New Line Cinema.
 
It’s a trio of green lights at Corus Studios ahead of Mipcom: Fiery cooking competition Fire Masters, travelog series Big Food Bucket List and demolition docuseries Salvage Kings (working title).
 
 
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
 
Season 6 of syndicated series Raw Travel TV will debut new episodes this weekend, October 6-7, in 172 US cities, up from 168 the previous season. The new season will include episodes from destinations in Asia, French Polynesia, Latin America and the US.
 
TV One will debut new eps of documentary series Unsung Hollywood and Uncensored on Sunday, October 7 at 9p and 10p, respectively. 
 
From deep-sea danger to mega holiday cruises, helping rivers flow and harvesting power, new Science Channel series Mega Machines: Sea Giants unlocks the ultimate challenges of extreme maritime environments. Series premieres Thursday, October 11 at 10p.
 
The premiere episode of The Connors, titled “Keep on Truckin’,” will air Tuesday, October 16 on ABC.
 
Bravo Media and Pinterest are teaming to offer viewers a chance to bring their dream Pinterest board to life and win a professionally redesigned living room or bedroom for their home. The contest coincides with Bravo’s new original design series Get a Room with Carson & Thom, which follows co-stars Carson Kressley and Thom Filicia as they redesign rooms for clients; series premieres Friday, October 19 at 9p. Contest entrants choose their aesthetic preference from a selection of seven design styles; the winner’s redesign will be inspired by the Pinfluencer who specializes in his or her preferred decor style.
 
Game Show Network’s Cover Story, a documentary series that looks at the personalities, memorable moments and outrageous scandals in and around popular games and shows, returns to Sundays this fall at 7p beginning Sunday, October 21.
 
Showtime will debut docuseries Shut Up and Dribble on Saturday, November 3 at 9p, with the remaining two episodes airing at 9p on the following two Saturdays. Narrated by sports journalist and commentator Jemele Hill, the doc examines the changing role of NBA athletes through the lens of our shifting cultural and political environment.
 
Brenda Nibley and Alisha Nuttall, who transform clients’ extravagant requests into edible works of art, star in new Cooking Channel series Holiday Cookie Builds, premiering Friday, November 9 at 10p. Also coming up on CC, Roger Mooking heats up on a new season of Man Fire Food on Wednesday, November 28 at 9p.

Country music artist Toby Keith, WWE’s Jim Ross and MLB’s Roger Clemens are in for the two-hour pregame show Live from State Fair of Texas, this Saturday, October 6. Festivities precede the “Red River Showdown” football matchup between No. 19 Texas and No. 7 Oklahoma, which begins live from the State Fair of Texas at 10a on FS1 and continues at 11a on FS1 and Fox.
 
She’s baaack: Taylor Swift will open the 2018 American Music Awards with a performance of “I Did Something Bad,” marking Swift’s first awards show performance in nearly three years. The awards show will broadcast live from LA on Tuesday, October 9 at 8p on ABC.
 
On a quest to find a legendary empire of mythical giants, Amazon expedition leader James Lynch and navigator Rene Delmotte return to the jungles of Peru in hourlong special Lost Amazon: Project Z, premiering on Travel Channel on Tuesday, October 16 at 10p.
 
This Halloween, TNT is bringing fans spooks, chills and thrills with an all-day Supernatural marathon, 8a-8p.
 
INSP will debut the television premiere of feature film Legal Action on Saturday, November 10 at 8p. The Western adjacent-style thriller is the latest release from INSP Films.
 
What says Thanksgiving more than a Gilmore Girls marathon? UPtv will air all seven seasons of the series, 24 hours a day for 153 straight hours, November 19-25. Scott Patterson will host as his GG character, Luke Danes.
 
This holiday season, TLC is gifting fans with The 12 Pops of Christmas, a one-hour special featuring Dr. Lee, aka, Dr. Pimple Popper, airing December 13 at 9p. New eps of the series will follow in January.

Indie distributor Film Movement this week is launching SVOD service Film Movement Plus. The ad-free, $7.99/month service launches with 250 features and 100 short films from around the globe culled from the Film Movement library. Titles at launch include After the Storm, Antonia’s Line and Pelle the Conqueror.
 
Route One Entertainment signed a distribution deal with cannabis lifestyle media and brand platform PRØHBTD to market and digitally distribute mockumentary series Dope State across its network. The six-ep series provides a humorous look at cannabis entrepreneurs seeking riches and revolution in the Golden State. PRØHBTD video content is syndicated across 15 partner platforms including Apple TV, Roku, Amazon, Android TV and Dailymotion.
 
This is just a test: No need to worry about the Wireless Emergency Alert, designed to notify people about dangerous weather and other urgent situations and labeled “Presidential Alert,” that over 200 million Americans will begin getting from FEMA at 2:18p today. It’s the government’s first nationwide test of the system for cell phone users; the FCC will also conduct a test on TV and radio.

IFC is enhancing its Crib. The net launched original eight-ep digital comedy series Fortune Rookie on the Comedy Crib, its online hub for original, short-form comedy. Created by and starring Janet Varney (Stan Against Evil, You’re the Worst), Fortune Rookie follows a fictionalized version of Varney who, on the advice of a fortune teller in a bathroom, decides to leave showbiz behind and become a full-time psychic. Fortune Rookie is produced by Above Average and exec produced by Varney, Brandon R. Reynolds, Brice Beckham, David Fickas and Brett Blake.
 
Season 1 of Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, returns to Facebook Watch with new episodes on October 22. Thirteen new eps release every Monday at noon.

Netflix committed to a fourth season of Guru Studio’s preschool series True and the Rainbow Kingdom, which will feature a lineup of new content including episodes, seasonal specials, a movie and a mix of comedic shorts and musical content rolling out on the service throughout 2019-20.

CBS This Morning is marking its two-year anniversary of its dedicated podcast with double-digit percentage growth in downloads. Posted every day following CBS This Morning, downloads rose 67 percent year-to-year. This year alone, the team produced 254 original podcasts. Among the notable interviews: Gayle King’s sit-down with Elizabeth Smart, and Norah O’Donnell’s chat with New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, who broke the Harvey Weinstein story.

RATINGS
 
Sunday’s return of Food Network’s Halloween Wars averaged a series-high 1.01 A25-54 rating, claiming the No. 2 spot at 9p and reaching 1.9 million viewers, helping to drive the network to No. 2 among cable for the night for A25-54 and W25-54.
 
Fox Business Network ended the third quarter as the No. 1-rated business network on television for the eighth consecutive quarter, according to Nielsen Media Research. FBN celebrates its 11th anniversary on October 15.
 
In syndication news… For the session ending September 23, the big talk shows staged a rousing ratings rally; the standout of the past week was Nielsen Judge Judy, which became the first show of the season to breach the seven rating level, outperforming everything in syndication. Dr Phil (15-week high 3.0 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 7% from the week before) had no trouble setting the pace in talk, topping the category for the 107th straight week. The race for second place wound up in a dead heat between Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.1, steady) and Ellen DeGeneres (2.1, up 5%). Others in talk’s top five with big weeks were Maury (1.4, up 8%) and Steve Harvey’s Steve (17-week high 1.3, up 8%).
 
Also in the plus column was Hot Bench (14-week high 2.2, up 5%), which ranked as the third highest strip in daytime. In magazine ratings news Daily Mail TV (1.0) took the wraps off season 2 with an 11% jump over last year.  Fellow sophomore Page Six TV began its second season up over last year’s premiere week numerous top markets, including a 233% improvement in DC.
Hallmark Channel original movie All of My Heart: The Wedding was the highest-rated and most-watched program of the week, excluding news and sports, pushing Hallmark to rank as the highest-rated and most-watched cable network in Saturday primetime among Households (2.7 HH rating) and W25-54 (438,000).

Ron Schwartz signed a new long-term agreement with Lionsgate as the company’s president of worldwide home entertainment. The deal gives him oversight of Lionsgate’s nearly $1 billion-annual worldwide home entertainment operations, including the Starz slate. He previously served as head of its worldwide home entertainment group.
 
Missy Birns-Halperin has joined National Geographic as Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy. Prior to National Geographic, Birns-Halperin was the Executive Vice President, Talent Relations for FOX Broadcasting Company, a responsibility she held for nearly 30 years.
