Whether they watched for education or entertainment, CNN’s Republican Debate on Wednesday night pulled in nearly 23 million viewers, according to Nielsen data. An average of 22.9 million people watched the three-hour-plus event, which set records as both CNN’s biggest audience in network history and the longest-ever Presidential debate.
Jon Stewart spent some of his newly free time on Capitol Hill this week. The former Daily Show host joined a group of 9/11 first responders in their effort to get Congress to permanently extend a law – the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act – that provides health care to rescue workers injured or sickened during the September 11, 2001 attacks. “I want to apologize to all the men and women, first responders, that you had to come down here today,” Stewart said, reports the New York Times. “I’m embarrassed for our country. I’m embarrassed for New York. I’m embarrassed that you, after serving so selflessly with such heroism, have to come down here and convince people to do what’s right.”
Exclusive: Fuse acquired The PJs, a three-time Emmy-winning animated series created by Eddie Murphy, who stars, along with Larry Wilmore and Steve Tompkins. The network will air all 43 episodes in three-hour blocks every Tuesday night at 7p, beginning September 29.
If this week’s Republican presidential debate proved anything, it’s that this election is going to be an adventure, and candidates will be spending plenty of money to reach voters which is why it’s critical to know the latest thinking in how the TV political spend is evolving this year and next. That’s why you’ll want to come hear Moody’s Investor Service VP and Senior Credit Officer Carl Salas at the Cynopsis TV Conference on October 15th. He’ll be sharing his forecast on probable spend percentages and how marketers and programmers should position themselves to take the best advantage of this once-every-four-years opportunity.
