Political ads score higher than other TV advertising when it comes to “viewability” and “attention” metrics, according to TVision. Viewers stay in the room 22% longer than when non-political ads run, and viewers’ eyes stay on political ads 15% longer than ads for other products or services. Not surprisingly, Republicans pay the most attention to political ads on Fox News, while Democrats pay the most attention to MSNBC. Independent voters lean toward CNN, according to the study.
The Biden administration and TikTok have struck a preliminary agreement that calls for changes in the social media app’s data security and governance that would keep its owner, China’s ByteDance, from having to sell it, according to The New York Times. Sources tell the Times it’s hardly a done deal, with the Justice Department and the Treasury Department skeptical that the potential agreement goes far enough to address national security risks. “We will not comment on the specifics of confidential discussions with the US government, but we are confident that we are on a path to fully satisfy all reasonable US national security concerns,” said a TikTok spokesperson.
“Big Brother” has been renewed for season 25, slated for a summer of 2023 debut. The news dropped after Taylor Hale became the first Black woman to win a non-celebrity edition of the reality competition, and the first person to win the $750,000 grand prize as well as the $50,000 award for Favorite Houseguest.
Telemundo is expanding Inspirando a América, an annual multiplatform franchise that honors individuals driving change in the Hispanic community. Starting this month, Telemundo will feature a monthly on-air and digital segment highlighting Latino changemakers. The stories will air on Noticias Telemundo’s national evening newscast, with an expanded segment to be broadcast the following day on Telemundo’s morning show, hoyDía. The series of stories will culminate in a one-hour special program n 2023, “Inspirando a América: Lista de Inspiradores,” highlighting honorees who have made a positive difference in their communities.

Magnolia Network is adding seven new series to its fall slate. The network is also renewing six series.
Maverick Television is developing a docuseries focused on NBA champ Derek Fisher. The series will focus on Fisher and his wife, Gloria Govan (“Basketball Wives”) and their family.
Oprah Winfrey and Apple TV+ are not renewing the non-exclusive, multi-year deal they signed in 2018. But Oprah and Apple haven’t quit each other – they’ll continue to collaborate on Oprah’s Book Club, available on Apple Books.
Damian Terriquez (“All Rise”) and Kaleb Horn (“Hardy Boys”) have joined Netflix drama “Glamorous” in recurring roles. The series, originally ordered to pilot at The CW in 2019, focuses on a young, gender non-conforming queer (played by Miss Benny) who lands a job working for a makeup mogul played by Kim Cattrall (“Sex and the City).

“Alaska: The Last Frontier” is back for a new season on Discovery starting Sunday, October 9 at 9p. Things don’t get off to a good start: Otto Kilcher is mauled by a steer during a snowstorm.
Also heading to Discovery is “A Cut Above,” on Sunday October 2 at 10p. The new reality competition has top woodcarvers working their chainsaws to create works of art.
Digital comics platform Webtoon and DC announced that “Batman: Wayne Family Adventures” will return for its second season on September 28. The new episodes will roll out every Wednesday.

Publicis Sapient detailed its priorities when it comes to plans for the metaverse over the next five years, calling the elements SPEED (strategy, product, experience, engineering, data/AI). But a Publicis Sapient survey found only 8% of respondents own a VR device, and 68% report being concerned about their data, and concerned about people are who they say they are.

The Pro Bowl as we know it is over. The NFL announced a “transformation” of the annual event, which takes place in Las Vegas in 2023. Now dubbed “The Pro Bowl Games,” the event will serve as a week-long celebration of player skills featuring a new format that spotlights Flag football. The multi-day AFC vs NFC competition will culminate in a Flag game featuring Pro Bowl players at Allegiant Stadium, and will air on ESPN and ABC on February 5. Throughout the week, The Pro Bowl Games will also integrate new challenges where players showcase their football and non-football skills in unique competitions. NFL will work with partners, including ESPN, as well as some of the biggest names in football. Peyton Manning and Omaha Productions will help shape the programming throughout the week.
Speaking of the NFL, Amazon Prime Video saw its latest outing for Thursday Night Football average 13.6 million viewers for its exclusive stream of the Browns’ win over the Steelers, according to the company and early Nielsen numbers. Nielsen numbers showed that the matchup averaged 11.03 million viewers.
CBS Sports revealed its college football primetime doubleheader for October 8, selecting a primetime slot for Texas A&M/Alabama at 8p. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and reporter Jenny Dell will call the action. The day’s action kicks off at 3:30p with Georgia and Auburn, as Tom McCarthy, Rick Neuheisel along with reporter Sherree Burruss take on microphone duties.
Sinclair announced a major distribution deal with Roku, on the day of the national launch for its Bally Sports Plus subscription streaming service. The direct-to-consumer service offers live-stream access to the regions covered by the 19 Bally Sports-branded regional sports networks. Roku users without a cable or satellite TV subscription can stream their local Bally Sports RSN on their Roku device for $19.99 a month.
The NBA G League and Marvel Entertainment announced a collaboration that will see 16 G League teams hosting a Marvel Super Hero Day during the upcoming 2022-23 NBA G League season. The events will feature Marvel themed jerseys and custom comic books for promotional giveaway. Select games will also feature Marvel character appearances, limited-edition merchandise such as jerseys, socks, towels, and additional fan engagement activities.
