Cyn 3 offers tips for doing phone interviews, often an important early step in the hiring process.

Take the interview somewhere quiet. Sounds like common sense, but a surprising number of HR personnel overhear barking dogs and screaming children when they’re trying to get to know a candidate – and that’s distracting at best. (Exception: no one can help the blare of an ambulance or fire truck, so don’t sweat it.)
Don’t talk about your private life unless you’re asked a direct question about it – and even then, keep it short and sweet.
Resist the urge to multitask. Recruiters and hiring managers may not be able to see you, but they can tell if you’re distracted, – so don’t read that text or let the dog out until you’ve signed off.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Greg Lipstone will join LA-based global indie studio Propagate as President. The move reunites Lipstone, who was previously All3Media America CEO, with Propagate co-CEOs Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens, with whom he worked years ago at William Morris.

Megan Ring has been appointed to the newly created role of Executive Vice President, Production, Viacom Media Networks. Ring most recently served as SVP, Production, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, TV Land and CMT.

Johan Boserup has joined Omnicom as CEO, Investment, replacing Barry Cupples. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Boserup, who left Omnicom six years ago to join GroupM.

Independent performance media agency Mercury announced a new team structure to lead its long form practice. The leadership team will be comprised of Eric Elliott, Vice President Media, Ramin Adnani, Vice President Operations, and Matt Hermes, who has been promoted into the newly-created role of VP Client Service.

NBCUniversal International Studios and Matchbox Pictures announced the appointment of Alastair McKinnon as Managing Director. The Executive Producer of Glitch and Harrow joins Matchbox from Australian broadcaster ABC, where he was most recently Head of Content Investment and Planning.

Maria Ines Rodriguez has been promoted to Senior Vice President, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) at Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution. Rodriguez most recently served as Vice President, EMEA.

Universal Television upped Jim Donnelly from Senior Vice President to Executive Vice President, Comedy Development. Dan Shear was promoted from Vice President to Senior Vice President, Comedy Development.

MGM promoted Brian Edwards to President, MGM Television Operations. In addition, he will join MGM’s Corporate Development team. Edwards had been Executive Vice President, Television Operations.

Endemol Shine North America renewed Georgie Hurford-Jones’ contract and named her to the newly created position of Senior Vice President, Unscripted Original Series and Specials.

Ingrid Selberg, former Managing Director at Simon & Schuster Children’s UK, is joining Awesome Reads as Director of Publishing.

Emma White was appointed the first Vice President of Portal A. She had been Head of Project Development at the digital studio.

Warner Bros. promoted David Decker, most recently Executive Vice President Cable and SVOD Sales, to Executive Vice President of Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. He replaces Ken Werner, who is retiring as President at the end of 2018 and will become a consultant to the group.

Tribune Broadcasting promoted Jason Ball to Vice President of Content Development. Ball, who is also Vice President/News Director of KTLA 5 in Southern California, will continue to retain oversight of KTLA’s news operations.

IAB named Susan Hogan as Senior Vice President of Research and Measurement. She previously supported and measured advertising initiatives for content providers such as Viacom and Martha Stewart Omnimedia.

Tremor Video DSP appointed Tal Mor as Chief Technology Officer. He was previously Chief Technology Officer at sister company Taptica.
