ADVERTISING
The E.W. Scripps Company expects 2018 political advertising revenue to beat its $75 million from 2014 and $101 million from 2016, as a result of spending for hotly contested races in Scripps’ portfolio of stations in key battleground states. “Scripps is seizing the advantage of our footprint with this year’s competitive midterm elections,” said Brian Lawlor, president of Local Media for Scripps. Not surprisingly, Scripps stations have boosted their political news coverage, including airing 100 minutes each week of news and analysis focused on local, regional and federal races and running the Scripps-produced weekly political news show The Race.
Hearst Television has launched Hearst Anyscreen, an OTT advertising platform that assembles Connected TV advertising inventory and audience aggregation in one package: the local content of the Hearst Television stations, spanning 39 states; the national content of Hearst partners, including ESPN and the various program brands of A+E Networks; and inventory from premium content sources including AMC, The CW, Discovery, Food Network, HGTV, and Travel Channel, as well as OTT-first content from networks such as FilmRise, Fubo TV, Pluto TV and Tubi TV. “Advertisers are seeking high quality inventory, plus scale to target effectively at the local level,” said Jonathan Sumber, Hearst Television’s VP of digital sales. Hearst Television has partnered with dataxu to deliver measurement, audience insights and targeting capabilities.
The Ad Council, the non-profit organization dedicated to driving social change, announced a major rebrand on Monday that includes an evolution in how it works with corporate brands to address social issues, an expansion of its content creation model, leveraging technological innovations that advance communications for social causes, as well as a new brand platform and visual identity (including a new logo) created by WPP branding agency Superunion.
The Ad Council’s new direction includes an evolution in its work with corporate brands to address social issues, building on its traditional client model (with non-profits and federal government agencies serving as campaign sponsors), by convening corporate coalitions to fund and support individual campaigns. The new model of support enables the organization to bring many more campaigns addressing critical issues to market. “Our entire industry has embraced purpose-driven marketing like never before, knowing that together we can accomplish much more than we ever could alone,” said Lisa Sherman, president and CEO of the Ad Council.
