A gunman shot and killed two journalists on live TV on Wednesday, then killed himself as he was chased on a Virginia highway. Someone claiming to be the shooter, former television reporter Vester Lee Flanagan, known professionally as Bryce Williams, sent a fax to ABC after the shooting attributing his actions in part to the June Charleston shooting tragedy; he also expressed admiration for the Columbine High School killers. Williams had been fired by the WDBJ7, the station whose reporters he targeted, several years ago.
USA Network postponed Wednesday night’s season finale of Mr. Robot for a week because of the shootings of WDBJ7 reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward. “Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time,” the network said in a statement.
Univision anchor and journalist Jorge Ramos sparred with Donald Trump at a news conference before the GOP candidate’s rally Tuesday, prompting a security officer to eject Ramos from the event. Trump told Ramos to "Go back to Univision” and “Sit down” during their exchange. Ramos eventually returned. In a statement, Isaac Lee, CEO of FUSION and President of News for Univision said, "We’d love for Mr. Trump to sit down for an in-depth interview with Jorge to talk about the specifics of his proposals.” Ramos, who hosts AMERICA with Jorge Ramos, has previously requested interviews with Trump to no avail.
Former Food Network star Paula Deen is headed to the ballroom. Variety reports that Deen will put on her dancing shoes for season 21 of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars, along with Backstreet Boys‘ Nick Carter, Triple Crown-winning jockey Victor Espinoza, and Bindi Irwin. ABC declined to comment on Deen’s casting.
After a blackout cut off about 14 million people from networks including ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, Dish Network and Sinclair Broadcasting are back at the bargaining table, and 129 local stations across 39 states and the District of Columbia were back on Dish last night. Dish filed a complaint with the FCC on Wednesday; FCC chairman Tom Wheeler said he called for an “emergency meeting.”
Nick Jonas will serve as the official Music Curator for the 2016 Miss America Competition. In addition to selecting the music to accompany the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, Jonas will also provide commentary on his selections. Jonas joins previously announced host Chris Harrison and celebrity judges Brett Eldredge, Taya Kyle, Kevin O’Leary, Amy Purdy and Zendaya. The competition airs Sunday, September 13 at 9p on ABC.
The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards has added some major star power. Pharrell Williams, Demi Lovato, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Tori Kelly, A$AP Rocky and Twenty One Pilots will all perform on the live telecast, airing Sunday, August 30 at 9p.
Turner Classic Movies is hosting the 2016 TCM Classic Film Festival from April 28 to May 1. The four-day event celebrates iconic films. TCM host and film historian Robert Osborne will once again serve as official host, with Ben Mankiewicz introducing various events.
