Good morning. It’s Thursday August 25, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

It is a one-two punch for FOX Sports and Sports Illustrated, which confirmed a new advertising and editorial partnership between the two companies. The multiyear deal will see the brands share “significant” content, according to the Wall Street Journal, which broke the story, while the two companies will share ad revenue from the offerings. SI will serve as the lead daily sales agent for the digital network while FOX will handle live events, per the company. Cross-platform crossover could include a breaking news article from Sports Illustrated that gets run on Fox Sports’ site, according to the report, while Fox could syndicate video highlights to Sports Illustrated’s properties. Properties under the Sports Illustrated and Fox Sports umbrellas saw around 68 million unique visitors in July, and the platforms will now combine their comScore traffic.


Casey Stern is going long with Turner Sports via a multi-year agreement that will see him serve as a studio host for MLB, NBA and NCAA programming Stern will continue to host MLB Postseason studio coverage on TBS. Stern has hosted MLB Postseason on TBS studio coverage since 2014 and occasionally host NBA studio shows on TNT and NBA TV. His new role will see him take on hoisting duties for NBA GameTime and host NCAA Tournament studio programing from Turner Studios in Atlanta.

The State Farm Champions Classic will continue its run with ESPN, with the company extending its relationship through the 2019 season. That span would include games in Chicago (2017), Indianapolis (2018) and New York City (2019). This year’s sixth annual State Farm Champions Classic will be played on Nov. 15, from Madison Square Garden and feature Kentucky/Michigan State and Duke/Kansas.

ESPN also announced plans to showcase the 2016 NCAA Division I women’s volleyball regular season, offering more than 30 games that span nine conferences on ESPNU and ESPN2. Matchups on SEC Network, Longhorn Network, ACC Network Extra and ESPN3 will also allow viewers to watch over 450 women’s volleyball matches, marking the most in ESPN’s history. Contests begin on Sept. 21 at 7p on ESPNU with Oklahoma/Kansas.
Speaking of volleyball, NBC Sports Group presents eight hours of coverage of the 2016 ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball this weekend, highlighted by three hours of live television coverage on NBC and five hours on NBCSN. Coverage starts tomorrow at 10p on NBCSN with the women’s quarterfinals. Chris Marlowe calls the action Kevin Wong.

BTN is set to showcase the inaugural State Farm Chicago Legends event, featuring a college basketball doubleheader honoring Chicago’s hoops history. Coverage tips off at 7p with Dayton/Northwestern, followed by BYU/Illinois on Dec. 17.
NASCAR and Nickelodeon announced the return of NASCAR Hammer Down on Sept. 23 at 9:30p on Nicktoons. Season three will offer eight, 15-minute episodes hosted by Karsyn Elledge, granddaughter of Dale Earnhardt, who will be joined by her sister, Kennedy Elledge, for driver interviews, and behind-the-scenes insight.

The Chicago White Sox sold naming rights for their venue to Guaranteed Rate, with the stadium, currently known as U.S. Cellular Field, set to be known as Guaranteed Rate Field as of Nov. 1 as part of a new 13-year deal. "We view this partnership as an opportunity to connect a successful Chicago business with a historic baseball franchise, and we look forward to growing this important relationship over the coming years as millions of fans enjoy White Sox baseball at Guaranteed Rate Field," chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in the statement.

USA Today Sports announced that Toyota emerged as the champion in the first-ever USA Today Sports Rio Ad Meter Bracket stemming from the Olympic Games. Toyota’s spot was favored over 31 of the top ads from across the globe surrounding the event and over 145,000 votes cast. 

PBR will bring in Steven Tyler to headline its musical lineup to perform for fans during PBR Finals Week in Las Vegas, which runs from Oct. 29 – Nov. 6. Tyler’s set takes place in T-Mobile Arena on Nov. 5 and will include his new song “Hold On (Won’t Let Go),” the new anthem driving PBR’s television broadcast openings on CBS and CBS Sports Network. Tyler’s performance will be featured on World Finals coverage airing on CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network.

Roush Fenway Racing is jumping in with global science and technology solutions company Leidos in a new deal to serve as a primary partner for NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Bubba Wallace and the No. 6 team. Races will include Dover (Oct. 1), Charlotte (Oct. 7), Kansas (Oct. 15) and Texas (Nov. 5).

Kinesiology tape and sports medicine taping company KT Health inked an official partnership with professional doubles tennis players Bob and Mike Bryan. The Bryan Brothers now become the first professional tennis players enlisted by KT Tape to join the brand’s roster of athlete ambassadors.


PGA TOUR Live is set to offer nearly 150 hours of Featured Group and Featured Hole coverage as well as studio programming as FedExCup Playoffs begin. Content will run across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Android phones and tablets and PGATOURLIVE.com. The PGA TOUR also plans to stream more than 14 hours of coverage on Twitter and Facebook Live during the opening rounds of The Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship, the first two events of the FedExCup Playoffs. Meanwhile, Perform Group acquired the rights to stream PGA TOUR LIVE coverage on “DAZN,” Perform’s new live sports streaming service which launched yesterday in the Japanese market. 

Snapchat is set to blanket the 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup this fall with Live Stories from Charlotte Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. NASCAR announced the initiative which allows fans to share their race-day experiences with millions of Snapchat users from the Bank of America 500 in Concord, North Carolina on Oct. 8, and the Ford EcoBoost 400 in Homestead, Florida, on Nov. 20. Snaps from each event will be curated and packaged by Snapchat into a video stream that is shared globally with Snapchat’s more than 100 million daily active users.

FC Bayern Munich tapped Omnigon to design and develop its suite of all-new iOS and Android smartphone and tablet apps. The apps, released in both English and German, launched in advance of the upcoming 2016-2017 season and offer a Match Center with full match statistics, scores, fixtures and tables (from the Bundesliga, Champions League and the DFB Pokal), news and photo galleries.  Upcoming features will include personalization and the ability to deliver content based on “fan context.”
