On-Target Percentage: The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) defines on-target percentage (OTP) as the percentage of total ad campaign delivery that is within the advertiser’s campaign-defined goals.
 
 

TOP NEWS
 

Facebook recently acknowledged that it may not revive its Domain Insights data feature. Access to Domain Insights, which was designed to help publishers gain information about how their sites’ externally hosted content was performing when shared on Facebook, was closed off to most publishers in June. Only publishers who were already using Domain Insights will continue to have access to its data. While publishers who want to learn when their traffic is coming from Facebook can always turn to Google Analytics, Domain Insights offered a deeper dive, giving publishers a better understanding of who was sharing their content on Facebook. As Digiday points out, publishers who want granular insights regarding how their content is shared on Facebook may now be forced to place more of that content directly on the Facebook platform.
 
Yum. Google has officially unveiled Nougat, the newest version of the Android 7.0 operating system. A public beta version of Nougat had already been available since May. Nougat adds new features such as multi-window multi-tasking, extra battery-saving modes, and support for Daydream, Google’s upcoming VR platform. It should be noted that Most Android users won’t actually gain access to Nougat for weeks or even months; the OS will first roll out to users of Nexus devices. Other Android devices, such as those made by Samsung and Motorola, won’t have access to Nougat until their manufacturers adapt the OS for their versions of Android.

OTT + SVOD
 

The 2016 Olympics have ended; long live the Olympic Channel. The new global OTT service, went live on August 21, after the Rio Games had officially concluded. Backed by about $550 million from the International Olympic Committee, as well as from advertisers and other national Olympic committees, the mobile-centric service will include sports-related original programming, both short- and long-form. It’s available at olympicchannel.com, and via mobile apps for iOS and Android.

 

SOCIAL MEDIA
 

Facebook has launched Lifestage, a social network for the 21-and-under crowd. According to Techcrunch, the new app is especially geared toward helping high schools students get to know their classmates better. The app is heavy on video; indeed, profile and status updates are made up entirely of videos.
 
 

VIRTUAL + AUGMENTED REALITY
 

Live VR specialist NextVR announced that, under its partnership with Fox Sports, it will broadcast the opening match of the 2016/2017 Bundesliga soccer league in live virtual reality. The match will be played this Friday, August 26, in Munich, Germany. It’ll be available to VR viewers worldwide.
 
 

PROGRAMMING + CONTENT ACQUISITIONS
 

Telemundo is set to kick off a series of exclusive social experiences on Snapchat, WhatsApp, YouTube, YOUNOW, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Designated toward TV viewers of Premios Tu Mundo (the ‘Your World Awards’), the social experiences will take place during the awards show’s August 25 broadcast. According to Telemundo, the show will feature activities that will allow viewers to interact with artists across social sites and apps. Participating social media stars will include Lele Pons, Alexander Ospina, and Kelly Peñaranda. The awards show will air on Telemundo and NBC Universo.
 
Sony’s Crackle has cast Rupert Grint of Harry Potter fame to co-star in Snatch, the streaming service’s upcoming 10-episode drama series based on the 2000 Guy Ritchie film of the same name. Dougray Scott and Ed Westwick have also been cast in the series. Nick Renton will direct.

The ListenFirst Television Interest (TVI) Rating (TM) is a standardized measurement of the most buzzed-about TV programs on linear TV and streaming services. A complement to ListenFirst’s other syndicated data products (such as the ListenFirst Digital Audience Rating – TV), the metrics included in the rating are the purest form of showing interest digitally, since they’re organic actions that are largely unaffected by paid media. Programs that surface on the TVI leaderboards are the most hashtagged on Facebook, Google+, and Tumblr, as well as most searched for on Wikipedia (used as a proxy for organic search volume).

The marketing technology company Amobee took a look at the digital content engagement surrounding the Rio Olympics. Here’s some of what they found:
– Between August 5-21, Nike was the Global or U.S sponsor most associated with the Olympics. Nike was associated with the Olympics on a number of fronts, such as: Michael Phelps wearing Nike sweatpants on the cover of Sports Illustrated despite being an Under Armour-sponsored athlete; a Chance the Rapper ad with the USA basketball teams; An Iron Nun ad; and the Nike-sponsored Simone Biles having a star-making performance at the games.
Samsung saw about 71% as much engagement as Nike. The engagement largely centered around Samsung offering Samsung Gear VR users exclusive virtual reality footage from the games, and the fact that Samsung offered competing athletes free Galaxy 7 smartphones.
Ryan Lochte was, by volume, the Olympic athlete who generated the most amount of Negative sentiment. But proportionally, there were more universally disliked athletes at the games. There were 962K Tweets mentioning Ryan Lochte between August 5-21, 2016 with sentiment around those Tweets being 19% Positive, 58% Neutral, and 23% Negative. During the same time period; there was 145K Tweets mentioning USA soccer goalie Hope Solo, who was criticized as a sore loser following her team’s elimination. Twitter sentiment around Hope Solo was 21% Positive, 47%Neutral, and 32% Negative. There were also 8K Tweets directly mentioning Islam El Shehaby – the Egyptian who refused to shake hands with the Israeli athlete who beat him at Judo. Twitter sentiment around Islam El Shehaby was 12% Positive, 41% Neutral, and 47% Negative.
Methodology
Digital content engagement is a measure of what people are seeing, reading, interacting and engaging with on over 600,000 sites on mobile, video, web and social.
 

 
EXECUTIVE MOVES

 
The sports-focused virtual MVPD fuboTV has made a new hire. Jason Solinsky, who formerly worked as Software Engineer Manager at Google, will serve as fuboTV’s new CTO. The company also says it plans to double its staff by the end of 2016, with a primary focus on marketing, design, and engineering hires.
