PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
NBC issued a put pilot commitment to The Unrequited, from former Pitch EP Kevin Falls. Written and executive produced by Falls, the hour-long drama centers on four adult siblings who return to their mother’s home for the funeral of their father, the former governor of California.
CBS is developing God Friended Me, from Alcatraz co-creators Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, director Marcos Siega and Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions. The light procedural explores questions of faith, existence and science.
Comedy scribe DJ Nash, creator of NBC’s Growing Up Fisher and Truth Be Told, sold two projects. ABC nabbed dramedy A Million Little Things with a put pilot commitment, while CBS bought comedy My Other Life In Brooklyn. Nash is writing both projects and executive producing them with Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor.
EOne secured the rights to Amor Towles novel A Gentleman in Moscow for adaptation into a TV series. Set during Soviet Union’s turbulent early 1920s, it delves into the story of Count Alexander Rostov, who is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat and sentenced to house arrest in a grand hotel across from the Kremlin.
AXS TV’s original music series, Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar Presented by Mercury Insurance was renewed for a third season. Production begins early 2018.
BBC ordered two drama series for flagship channel BBC One. The Three, based on a trilogy of books by Sarah Lotz and adapted by writer Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), focuses on four plane crashes on the same day in four different countries, with three children left as survivors. The Serpent, written by Ripper Street’s Richard Warlow, is based on the true story of con man and escape artist Charles Sobhraj.

ECLIPSE COVERAGE
CBS News delivers a full day of division-wide coverage of the first total solar eclipse since 1979, on Monday, August 21. CBS This Morning kicks things off at 7a with interviews and reports from cities where the event will be most visible.
Telemundo presents multiplatform coverage of the eclipse, too, highlighted by Al Rojo Vivo Edicion Especial: El Gran Eclipse on Monday, August 21 at 1p.
MTV is executing a series of activations around the solar eclipse, including a “VMA” x eclipse animated graphic on-air and across social and digital platforms. MTV is also celebrating the event in seven cities across the country, partnering with Fooji to deliver custom VMA eclipse viewing glasses and astronaut ice cream to fans who tweet #TotalEclipseVMA + the female astronaut emoji. Campaign begins at 11a.
National Geographic and AirBnB are hosting a digital live broadcast from coast to coast featuring the network’s science and space experts, images and answers to questions. Coverage is available over Facebook Live, Twitter via Periscope and YouTube starting at 9:30a.
Outside TV is producing a solar stunt aimed at drawing attention to the extreme adventure sports the net covers: Ten professional wingsuit pilots will jump in formation to chase the eclipse when it’s visible in Oregon at 10:20a.
On PBS, hour-long documentary Eclipse Over America at 9p will be NOVA’s most extensive fast-turnaround film ever, including collaboration with local station for eclipse coverage.
Also doing a quick turnaround is Science Channel, which in addition to live coverage during the day from locations including the International Space Station, will offer a recap special, Great American Eclipse, at 9p.

Viceland released its fall lineup. Among its returning series are Epicly Later’d, bowing Wednesday, September 6 at 10p; Bong Appetit, back on Thursday, September 14 at 10:30p; Cyberwar premiering Tuesday, October 3 at 10p; Weediquette, back Tuesday, October 17 at 10:30p; and Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia, bowing Tuesday, November 28 at 10p. New weekly comedy/talk show, The Trixie & Katya Show, starring RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova, debuts Wednesday, November 1 at 10p; Most Expensivest, featuring hip-hop’s 2 Chainz taking viewers on a tour of the culture of excess, arrives immediately after, at 10:30p.
Smithsonian announced its fall series debut dates, too. Highlights include a new season of Mighty Cruise Ships, bowing Sunday September 3 at 8p, followed by the series premiere of Mighty Trains at 9p. Air Disasters returns for a new season on October 15 at 8p, while Make It Out Alive launches immediately afterward at 9p.
COMING UP
Smithsonian Channel airs two Princess Diana specials on Sunday, August 2 7. Diana and the Paparazzi bows at 8p, followed by Diana: The Day We Said Goodbye at 9p.
The inaugural BIG3 Champion will be crowned on Saturday, August 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The championship game for the 3-on-3 half-court basketball league, founded by Ice Cube, airs live on Fox at 4:30p.

Fuse Media and Complex Network forged a content and advertising partnership to bring content to each other’s platforms in digital and pay-tv environments. The two companies’ ad sales teams will also jointly market and sell unique cross-platform packages to advertisers.

NBC News’ Snapchat show, Stay Tuned, has drawn over 29 million unique viewers since its July 18 launch, with over 60% of the audience under the age of 25. The show airs twice daily during the week, and once each day on weekends. NBCUniversal invested $500 in Snapchat parent Snap in March.

Jordan Bolger (Peaky Blinders) is joining Season 5 of The CW’s The 100…Adrian Pasdar will guest in the sophomore season of Fox’s Lethal Weapon, while Thomas Lennon is returning for a few episodes as neurotic lawyer Leo Getz… Fox’s Gotham is adding Marina Benedict (Prison Break) in a recurring role, as well as Benjamin Stockham (About a Boy).

Veteran British entertainer and game show host, Bruce Forsyth, died Friday, August 18. He was 89. Hall had been hospitalized earlier this year with a severe chest infection.
