Content Distribution Network: The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) defines a content distribution network as a service that hosts online assets and provides content management via servers located around the globe in order to reduce the latency of downloads to users.
Amazon wants to get its original shows in front of more eyeballs. That’s why the company is making 10 of its series pilots available on Amazon Video’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Pilots now streaming on Facebook and YouTube include those of Transparent, The Man In the High Castle, and several others.
Univision Communications has agreed to buy Gawker Media for $135 million, according to reports. The bidding pitted Univision against the tech and gaming publisher Ziff Davis, which bowed out of the auction when the price tag became to high. Gawker Media recently entered bankruptcy proceedings after it was hit with a $140 million judgment resulting from an invasion-of-privacy suit brought by Hulk Hogan.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is now the first advertiser to make use of Snapchat’s 360-degree video format. SPE is running 360-degree Snap Ads for Don’t Breathe, an upcoming horror thriller.
The marketing technology company Amobee announced the launch of Amobee Triggers, a solution designed to let marketers target and deliver campaigns at key consumer “mindset moments.” “Amobee Triggers…is audience targeting and media buying made for the programmatic world, leveraging Amobee Brand Intelligence technology to focus, target and launch media based on actionable signals that will generate the most impact for the brand,” said Kim Perell, Amobee’s President, in a statement.

Anna Paquin (HBO’s True Blood) has been cast in Alias Grace, the upcoming six-part miniseries from Netflix and CBC. The series, based on a Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, focuses on a mid-19th century Irish immigrant and domestic servant who’s convicted of murdering her employers, Thomas Kinnear and Nancy Montgomery, in upper Canada. Paquin is cast as Montgomery.
LG announced the launch of Channels Plus, a new streaming service offering premium Internet content. Channels Plus content is available as both live and on-demand programming. The service will roll out this month via LG smart TVs. Channels Plus is powered by Xumo, an OTT platform that specializes in streaming content from digital networks to smart TVs. Xumo is owned by a joint venture of Panasonic and Viant.

Google has launched Duo, a new video chat app. The app offers full-screen one-to-one video calling; it’s available for both iOS and Android. The app is purposefully uncluttered – it doesn’t come equipped with stickers or other visuals, and offers no group chat or text messaging features. It does, however, come equipped with a new feature called Knock Knock that lets a user see the participant who’s calling before actually answering the call. The new app launch comes just as Google is ending Google+’s Hangouts On Air live video service, merging its features into YouTube Live.
Snapchat is in the final stages acquiring the mobile search app Vurb. According to The Information, Snapchat is paying $110 million (25 percent in cash and 75% in stock) for the company.
The ListenFirst Television Interest (TVI) Rating (TM) is a standardized measurement of the most buzzed-about TV programs on linear TV and streaming services. A complement to ListenFirst’s other syndicated data products (such as the ListenFirst Digital Audience Rating – TV), the metrics included in the rating are the purest form of showing interest digitally, since they’re organic actions that are largely unaffected by paid media. Programs that surface on the TVI leaderboards are the most hashtagged on Facebook, Google+, andTumblr, as well as most searched for on Wikipedia (used as a proxy for organic search volume).

Source: ListenFirst. The TVI Rating aggregates metrics that measure organically generated activity by fans of the TV show. The metric includes total volume of official hashtag mentions on Facebook, Google+, and Tumblr, along with Wikipedia page views (as a proxy for organic search volume) for a show as a percentage of the total volume of the same activities for all shows.
To determine the TV ads generating the most digital response, iSpot.tv measures digital actions across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and all major search engines. Below, a look at the brands backing Olympics TV coverage so far on NBC and sibling networks NBC Sports, Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC and USA Network.

Izo, the music-, dance- and pop culture-oriented digital media company formerly called DanceOn, has named a major new exec. Jason Hargrove will serve as Head of Programming. Hargrove most recently served as VP of Original Content for Fuse Media’s FM channel. Hargrove will be tasked with leading izo’s content and distribution strategy; the company is already in the process of producing over 25 series for Verizon’s Go90 service, in a pact that runs through 2017. Hargrove will also oversee programming for izo’s dance entertainment brand, which is still called DanceOn.
