PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Amazon Studios inked an overall deal with Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), and signed a first-look agreement with his Skybound Entertainment. Kirkman and Skybound co-founder David Alpert will develop TV projects for Prime Video.
Spike Lee and tech entrepreneur Chad Sanders are developing a dark comedy, Archer (no relation to the FX animated sitcom), centered on a “young, black Mark Zuckerberg-like protagonist,” reports Variety, inspired by Sanders’ life. Sanders is creator, star, exec producer, writer and director. Lee will direct the pilot and exec produce via his 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks.
Between them, Discovery Communications-backed Group Nine Media’s 4 brands (Thrillist, NowThis, The Dodo and Seeker) are launching 24 series for Facebook’s new video platform Watch. Titles cover topics from mating animals (Wild Sex) to careers (Job Goals) to the end of the world (Apocalypse NowThis).
Callie Khourie is working on a series set in Miami, the Nashville creator said on CMT’s #Nashchat Facebook show. Khourie described the project as “a song and dance show,” adding, “the performance days on Nashville are always the best days.” Nashville’s season 6 arrives in January 2018.
Alison Bennett (You’re the Worst) is writing a spinoff of 2005-2014 CBS hit How I Met Your Mother for 20th Century Television called How I Met Your Father, reports Deadline. An HIMYM follow-up by the comedy’s creators Carter Bays & Craig Thomas and Emily Spivey 3 years ago didn’t make it to series.
NBC is developing a tech drama, Mosaic, from Wes Ball and Joe Hartwick, Jr., Chernin Entertainment and Universal Television, following the lives of people in a near-future metropolis navigating their lives amid emerging technologies.

ADVERTISING
National TV ad revenues dipped 1% in 2Q17, better than the 3% the prior quarter, according to Brian Wieser, senior research analyst for Pivotal Research Group, who projected a 1-2% drop for the rest of the year. “Many of the large advertisers that dominate TV are relatively weak at present,” noted Wieser, “and not enough new advertisers are emerging to replace the old ones.”
DIGITAL DATA
Hulu Live added 7 more CBS affiliates, bringing the total number of CBS stations on its MVPD service to 115. CBS has a total of 222.
