There will be four new guest sharks when ABC’s “Shark Tank” returns for season 13 in October: Kevin Hart, whose entertainment companies include HartBeat Productions and Laugh Out Loud; Emma Grede, CEO and co-founder with Khloe Kardashian of Good American and founding part of SKIMS with Kim Kardashian; Peter Jones, an original Dragon on BBC’s “Dragons’ Den”; and Nextdoor co-founder Nirav Tolia. Each will appear on the show’s panel alongside Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John and Kevin O’Leary.
GAC Media will launch networks GAC Family and GAC Living on Monday, September 27. GAC Family focuses on scripted content that captures American culture, lifestyle and heritage, while GAC Living will offer unscripted lifestyle content, with a focus on southern and country living.
“Jeopardy!” is back to square one in its search for a new host, so it’s worth taking a look at which guest hosts garnered the most audience attention during the game show’s audition period. According to Parrot Analytics, Ken Jennings came out on top, with the show averaging 31.1x the average series demand. Anderson Cooper followed by with 30.3x. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, perhaps the most surprising guest host, came in third with 29.3x the average series demand, while Katie Couric came in fourth with 27.5x.
The Television Academy announced its first list of presenters for this year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which will be held across three ceremonies at L.A. Live in Los Angeles. Featured in the mix are Debbie Allen (“Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square”), RuPaul Charles (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Brendan Hunt (“Ted Lasso”), Yvette Nicole Brown (“A Black Lady Sketch Show”), Carl Clemons-Hopkins (“Hacks”), Thomas Lennon (“Reno 911!”) and J.B. Discovery+ and Talos films signed a multi-project deal to produce premium true crime content for the streamer, following the success of “Queen of Meth.” Two collaborations are currently in the works. “House of Hammer” (wt) takes an inside look at the Hammer family, including recent allegations around actor Armie Hammer. “Tough Love Inc.” explores the organized system of child abuse that takes place in America’s “Troubled Teen” Industry (TTI) via inside accounts from survivors, whistleblowers and activists.
INSP greenlit a third season of “Ultimate Cowboy Showdown.” Trace Adkins is back as host and executive producer of the competition series that features a diverse group of cowboys from across the country competing for the ultimate prize – their own herd of cattle.
Here comes the judge? Apparently so. ABC has ordered 10 episodes of unscripted courtroom comedy series “Judge Steve Harvey” (wt), featuring the comedian as judge, jury and star.
Hail the queens. Netflix has ordered two seasons of a hybrid docuseries about African Queens, according to Deadline. The project hails from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Nutopia, with Pinkett Smith set as EP. Written by Peres Owino (“Bound: Africans vs African-Americans) and NneNne Iwuji (“Yellow”) the series will focus on a different queen each season, beginning with Cleopatra in Season 1 and Njinga in Season 2.
HBO Documentary Films has begun work on “Katrina Babies,” a feature documentary exploring the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the youth of New Orleans. New Orleans filmmaker Edward Buckles, Jr., who was 12 when Katrina hit, documents the stories of his peers who survived the storm as children.
Netflix ordered a fourth season of Formula 1: Drive to Survive. The new season will go behind the scenes to witness how drivers and teams battle it out for victory in the 2021 Grand Prix.
CBS Studios is moving forward with “Broadmoor,” a drama series intended for the UK/international premium and streaming market. Created by screenwriter/playwright Jeffrey Hatcher and inspired by true events, the project is based on the famous British high-security psychiatric hospital, originally known as the Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum.
Amazon Studios is developing “Infinite Thread” from the Ramsay brothers, “Kingdom” creator Byron Balasco, Justin Lin and his Perfect Storm Entertainment and Universal TV, where Lin has a deal. The show delves into what happens after a pair of twins are abducted and a determined sheriff deputy investigates the crime, breaking the boundaries of time and space.

“The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth” returns for an eight-episode run on Sunday, September 19 at 8p on Showtime.
Jon Lovitz headlines Tubi’s “Tales of a Fifth Grade Robin Hood,” debuting Friday, August 27. The comedy centers on a young boy (Chase Brown) in an under-funded school who discovers the vice principal (Lovitz) is stealing money from fundraisers and living in a mansion. Tubi will be partnering with Kids in Need Foundation to provide school supplies and learning tools to under-resourced teachers and students nationwide.
Buddy comedy “That Girl Lay Lay” bows Thursday, September 23 at 7:30p on Nickelodeon. The series follows Lay Lay, an avatar from a personal affirmation app that magically comes to life, and her best friend Sadie as they navigate life as teenagers.
Netflix will drop the sophomore season of “The Baby-Sitters Club” on Monday, October 11. “In Season 2, we really get to see a maturation of the club, and of the girls,” shared Creator and Executive Producer Rachel Shukert.

Facebook is looking to launch its own advisory committee for election-related policy decisions, according to The New York Times. The company has reportedly approached policy experts and academics it is interested in recruiting for the group, which would give it cover for some of its most consequential choices. The group would potentially be empowered to weigh in on issues like election misinformation and political advertising. Plans are for the commission to be in place for the 2022 U.S. midterm elections.
German publishing group Axel Springer has struck an agreement to acquire digital political news outlet Politico, according to Variety, in a deal that has been reported to be slightly more than $1 billion. The deal includes the remaining 50% share of the companies’ current joint venture, Politico Europe, and the more recently launched tech news website Protocol.
Bright, the startup from YouTube executive Michael Powers and investor and music manager Guy Oseary that’s recruited celebrities, artists and influencers to host ticketed live Zoom events, announced $15 million in funding from investors. The funding round was led by Sound Ventures, Oseary’s investment firm co-founded with Ashton Kutcher, RIT Capital and Regah Ventures.
