Laurence Fishburne teamed with Kermit the Frog during Disney Television Animation’s panel at the D23 Expo to announce Disney Channel‘s new animated series Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Show following the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette and her ten-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur, is executive-produced by Fishburne and Helen Sugland‘s Cinema Gypsy Productions, Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment, and Steve Loter (Kim Possible).
HBO’s Ballers will end with season five. The sports comedy, which kicked off its final run on Sunday, “was an opportunity to not only embrace culture, not only embrace ambition, not only embrace success – which we do in the show – but also embrace the failures, which is a key and critical thing in life, to learn from them,” said star and exec producer Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson.
Google disabled 210 YouTube channels it determined were uploading videos in a coordinated manner about the protests in Hong Kong. “We found use of VPNs and other methods to disguise the origin of these accounts and other activity commonly associated with coordinated influence operations,” wrote Shane Huntley from Google’s security team. The move came days after Twitter and Facebook shut down a network of hundreds of accounts designed to undermine pro-democracy protesters in the area.
A one-hour special, The Paley Center Salutes The Good Place, will air Thursday, September 19 at 8p, one week before the NBC comedy kicks off its fourth and final season, with best-of moments and cast interviews. “The Good Place has become a cultural touchstone representing the best of television anywhere,” said Doug Vaughan, EVP of Special Programs and Late Night at NBC. “We’re excited to partner with The Paley Center for Media to honor such an outstanding show that’s admired by so many of its devoted fans.”
Nielsen is expected to start including out-of-home viewing with its overnight ratings starting October 3, and will reduce the number of markets sampled from 56 to 44. The enhanced version of the numbers, which have been available at 8:30a, will be pushed to 1p.
Hasbro, home of My Little Pony, bought Peppe Pig production studio Entertainment One, for $4 billion. What’s in in it for toymaker? “The acquisition of eOne adds beloved story-led global family brands that deliver strong operating returns to Hasbro’s portfolio and provides a pipeline of new brand creation driven by family-oriented storytelling, which will now include Hasbro’s IP,” said Brian Goldner, Hasbro chairman and chief executive officer. “In addition, Hasbro will leverage eOne’s immersive entertainment capabilities to bring our portfolio of brands that have appeal to gamers, fans and families to all screens globally and realize full franchise economics across our blueprint strategy for shareholders.”

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
One Day at Disney, a collaboration between Disney Publishing Worldwide and Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+ will include a 224-page coffee table book as well as a documentary series culled from 76 photo shoots that took place around the world, capturing images of employees and cast members from Shanghai Disneyland to the set of Modern Family. A 52-episode short-form series will debut December 3, the same day the book launches.
BET has put into development the scripted comedy W.H.I.P.s (wt), based on an original pitch from Kim McKoy, Page Hurwitz, and Wanda Sykes about four former sitcom stars living under one roof. Alyson Fouse (Black Jesus) is slated to executive produce and write the pilot.
Comedy Central inked a first-look deal with Derek Waters and picked up a seventh season of his Drunk History. In partnership with new studio production arm Comedy Central Productions, Waters will develop content for TV and digital platforms.
The Williamson County, TX district attorney’s decision to yank the welcome mat from Big Fish Entertainment over video rights to A&E’s Live PD didn’t sit well with everyone. While the DA said the contract with the production company allowed it to destroy footage, which could serve as potential evidence, within 30 days, County Sheriff Robert Cody tweeted that he had wanted to maintain the Live+PD relationship, because it “benefitted recruitment, community engagement, transparency & so much more.” Big Fish bowed out gracefully, saying, “We thank the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the community for their participation and wish everyone of Williamson County the best, as we shift our attention to the many other agencies around the country asking to work with Live PD.”
Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment announced a new preschool animated series for Disney Junior. Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends is slated to launch in 2021. “Preschool kids already love Spidey, so they’ll be delighted to have Peter Parker thwipping across their screens in this new series” said Cort Lane, SVP, Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment.

Rocker Eddie Money’s announcement that he has esophageal cancer will be detailed in a special episode of AXS TV’s Real Money that will air on Thursday, September 12 at 9:30p. Reality series following the daily lives of the “Two Tickets to Paradise” singer, his wife, and their five children returns to AXS TV’s fall schedule on a new night and time, Thursdays at 9:30p.
Tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards will pay tribute to New Jersey with performances from rap pioneers from the Garden State, including Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, Redman, Wyclef Jean and Fetty Wap. Show airs live from Newark, NJ at 8p.
Netflix’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie drops Friday, October 11. Sequel starring Aaron Paul will have a second window on AMC, home of the Vince Gilligan series.

Facebook is launching a review of all its “Facebook Marketing Partners,” according to Business Insider. The ad and marketing companies, which had won Facebook’s seal of approval, are suspected of misusing of Facebook-owned Instagram’s user data and other rule violations including illicitly harvesting Instagram users’ public data without their consent and storing ordinary users’ Instagram passwords.
STREAMING: D23 EDITION
At the D23 Expo Star Wars streaming presentation, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy announced that the new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will stream on Disney+ in February 2020. The animated series will be returning with 12 new episodes and returning classic characters Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and fan-favorites Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex.
Phineas and Ferb returns with a movie on Disney+ set for 2020. Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe is currently in production. A short-form series featuring The Muppets, Muppets Now, is also on tap at Disney+.
In development at Disney+ are Marvel comics-based Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Moon Night live action series, announced Marvel head Kevin Feige at D23.
Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire is being revived at upcoming streaming platform Disney+. In the sequel to the 2001-2004 hit, Hilary Duff reprises the title role as a 30-year-old millennial in NYC. It’s the first project under the original show’s creator, Terri Minsky’s, deal with Disney Channel. Duff was granted a waiver to star in the show as well as TV Land’s Younger, renewed for season seven.
Noelle stars Anna Kendrick and Billy Eichner joined Sean Bailey onstage at D23 to announce their film will premiere on Disney+ on November 12. In the holiday comedy, Kris Kringle’s daughter wishes she could do something “important” like her brother Nick, who will take over from their father on Christmas.
Executive Producer and recurring guest star Gina Rodriguez and Diary of a Female President lead Tess Romero announced their series will premiere on Disney+ in January. Told using the narration from her diary, the half-hour single camera comedy follows 12-year-old Cuban-American girl Elena’s journey through the trials of middle school, which set her on the path to ultimately become president of the United States.
CASTING
Familiar names were dropped at the Disney+ session at the D23 expo. It was announced Kathryn Hahn will join the cast of the series WandaVision playing a new character… Kat Dennings and Randall Park are reprising their roles from Thor and Ant-Man and the Wasp on the series…and Emily VanCamp will return as SHIELD agent Sharon Carter in upcoming action drama The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
William Jackson Harper (The Good Place) will recur on Amazon drama The Underground Railroad.
