Comedian Iain Stirling returns as narrator in the new format that brings together fan-favorite Islanders from various “Love Island” iterations.
Also tapped as hosts were Emma and Matt Willis for “Love Is Blind: UK.” “I love to play matchmaker with my friends and love LOVE so I am so excited to be co-hosting the first ever UK version of ‘Love is Blind’,” said Emma Willis. “I’ve loved going to work with Matt and we’re both obsessed with the show, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity!” The series, produced by CPL Productions, is set to launch next year.
The actors’ strike is at an “inflection point,” Fran Drescher told The Associated Press. “At some point you have to say no more… It’s taken on a bigger scope, it’s greater than the sum of its parts. I think it’s a conversation now about the culture of big business, and how it treats everybody up and down the ladder in the name of profit.” As for the studios, “Shame on them,” said “They stand on the wrong side of history.”

GOING GLOBAL
“You can’t rely on global streamers to make local dramas,” said Hannah Sjärne, Swedish public broadcaster SVT CEO. Speaking on the impact of global SVOD services, Sjärne said, “When you look into the future of drama, people living in different countries, you can’t rely on the streamers as you are dependent on their international business plans….Public service media is totally essential. We are the ones to rely on for drama.”
“Succession,” “Happy Valley” and “The Traitors” won big at the Edinburgh TV Festival Awards. Kate Winslet won Best TV Actor – Drama for “I Am Ruth” and Jamie Demetriou won Best TV Actor – Comedy for “Stath Lets Flats;” Channel 4’s “Derry Girls” won Best Comedy Series. The festival’s Operations Director Bianca Newby said, “What a year it has been for TV but once again, the creative talent on show tonight has demonstrated just how strong and resilient our industry is.”
Perpetual Entertainment pre-sold new shows to broadcasters in the UK and Australia. The deals were brokered through Marmalade Sky TV. Titles from the Australian film and TV production company include the talent-led travel series “Jimmy Doherty’s New Zealand Escape,” true-crime series “The Murder of Lyn Dawson” and “King Con,” and “Hitler’s Handmaidens.”
EarthxTV acquired the rights to “Texas Gator Savers.” The 10-episode series following conservationists and alligator wranglers Gary Saurage and wife Shannon is currently in production.
BBC ordered “Hot Flush” from “Happy Valley” creator Sally Wainwright. The series is set in Hebden Bridge and follows the lives of five women who form a punk-rock band to enter a talent contest. Wainwright previously described the project as a “celebration of women of a certain age and all the life-stuff they suddenly find themselves negotiating/dealing with.”
“Clarkson’s Farm” fate is still uncertain, as Prime Video UK hasn’t confirmed the future of the docuseries. The series has faced backlash following Jeremy Clarkson’s column about Meghan Markle earlier this year, in which he wrote Markle should be “made to parade naked through the streets in every town in Britain while the crowds throw lumps of excrement at her.” Head of UK Unscripted Fozia Khan said at the Edinburgh TV Festival yesterday, “There are lots of discussions going on but the thing that’s important to say is there is so much more going on to the show than Clarkson.”
