CNN is making big changes to its lineup. Weekend anchor and political correspondent Abby Phillips will anchor the 10p slot, and Laura Coates has landed an 11p show. Chief investigative correspondent Pamela Brown will anchor a new 3p show, while Kasie Hunt takes over “Early Start,” and Phil Mattingly will co-anchor “CNN The Morning” with Poppy Harlow. For weekend programming, Victor Blackwell, Chris Wallace and Christiane Amanpour are hosting new Saturday morning shows, and Manu Raju will anchor “Inside Politics” on Sunday. CNN’s new lineup elevates “a new generation of rising stars to key time slots as it seeks to improve lackluster ratings and reboot its programming ahead of the 2024 presidential election,” said CNN’s website.

Over at NBC News, Gabe Gutierrez will become senior White House correspondent. Gutierrez, who joined NBC in 2012, replaces Kristen Welker, who is shifting to her new job s moderator for “Meet the Press.”

TLC has renewed “Match Me Abroad” for season two. The reality show, launched May 14, reached an audience of 16.4 million viewers during its first run, earning a 1.13 Live+3 rating among W25-54 for its season finale.

ID was quick to renew “High Speed Chase,” a police chase reality series that has drawn over 5.8 million viewers across WBD platforms since its premiere on July 11. “’High Speed Chase’ has become an instant fan-favorite addition to our adrenaline fueled block of action programming,” said Turner Networks, ID & HLN and Linear and Streaming President Jason Sarlanis. “The show’s mix of shocking police chase footage and compelling witness testimony delivered incredibly engaging content that helped propel ID to be the #1 ad supported cable network excluding sports in total day with Women 25-54.”

SAG-AFTRA is adjusting its “evolving” Interim Agreements policy to exclude projects shot in the US that are covered by the Writers Guild. “The Interim Agreement is an important element of our strike strategy,” said the SAG-AFTRA Negotiating Committee on Monday. “We will now exclude from Interim Agreements any WGA-covered project to be produced in the USA. We have been advised by the WGA that this modification will assist them in executing their strike strategy, and we believe it does not undermine the utility and effectiveness of ours. It is a win-win change.”

Apple TV+ is bulking up on soccer content. A six-part documentary chronicling superstar Lionel Messi’s arrival in the US to play for Major League Soccer and Inter Miami CF Apple TV+ has landed at the streamer, which offers access to Major League Soccer through the MLS Season Pass. Also coming up on Apple TV+ is an Apple Original doc following Messi through his career.

Mom and Dad are in prison, but the Chrisley kids are still in the TV business. “Chrisley Knows Best” alums Chase, Savannah, Chloe, Grayson, and “Nanny” Faye Chrisley are set to star in a docuseries in development at Scout Productions. The series follows the family after Todd and Julie Chrisley’s departure for prison for financial crimes. “Collaborating with the Chrisley family, who are nothing short of reality royalty, for their much anticipated return to TV is beyond thrilling,” said Rob Eric, Chief Creative Officer, Scout Productions. “They’re ready to bring their signature heart and quirk back to the fans and we look forward to telling their story.” While “Chrisley Knows Best” aired on USA network and was produced by Maverick TV, the new show does not have a network attached yet.

Prime Video has ordered “Kelce,” following Philadelphia Eagles team captain Jason Kelce throughout the 2022-2023 season. The documentary film premieres September 12, ahead of the September 14 return of “Thursday Night Football” on the streamer.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

OWN docuseries “Time of Essence,” following Essence Magazine’s role informing and reflecting Black culture over the last 50 years, premieres Friday, August 18 at 9p. The five-parter features the likes of Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Regina Hall, Taraji P. Henson and more.

Children’s network Kids Street has launched a back-to-school programming slate including the US premieres of “The Enchanted Village of Pinocchio,” “Edmond & Lucy” and “Zizi and Hannibal.” In addition, Kids Street will launch new seasons of the franchises “Rainbow Ruby” and “Maya the Bee,” exclusively on US linear television.

ViX comedy “Cualquier Parecido” premieres Friday, August 25 on the streamer’s premium plan. The series, based on real-life events, tells the story of a woman who discovers the saying “happily ever after” is not always true.

STREAMING

EverPass Media struck a licensing agreement with NBCUniversal to bring Peacock’s exclusive live sports content to bars, restaurants and other commercial locations. “This partnership will enable us to now offer our content via a compelling commercial sports product,” said Rick Cordella, President of Programming, NBC Sports and Peacock Sports. “We’re excited to work with the EverPass team to bring fans more viewing opportunities and business owners ease and simplicity in streaming our best-in-class offerings.”

Pluto TV has launched “Westerns on Pluto TV,” home to Western-themed shows and films, and available through September 10. Included are all four seasons of Paramount Global sib “Yellowstone.”

COMING UP

Documentary “Unrivaled: Sewanee 1899” airs Saturday, September 16 at 7p on the public TV station World. The film tells the story of the University of the South’s 1899 season, during which the baseball team played 5 games in 6 days and won all of them by shut-out.

Turner Classic Movies celebrates the life and career of director William Friedkin with programming tributes on Thursday, September 14 and Sunday, November 26. Friedkin, who died August 7 at the age of 87, started his career by directing one of the last episodes of “The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.”

TECH TALK

Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg is dismissing X owner Elon Musk’s talk about a cage fight between the tech titans. “Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead,” posted Zuckerberg on Threads. Responded Musk, “Zuck is a chicken.” Musk and Zuckerberg started talking about a fight in June.

TMZ Investigates: Gilgo Beach Serial Murders: Missed Warning Signs” analyzes the investigation of the killings between 1996 and 2011 that led to the recent arrest of suspect Rex Heuermann. TMZ asks if a botched investigation and missed clues led to even more murders in the special, premiering Sunday, August 20 at 9p on Fox.

SPORTS ROUNDUP

ESPN’s ABC play by play announcer Mike Breen will be joined by Doris Burke and Doc Rivers to call the NBA Finals, Eastern Conference Finals, NBA Playoffs, Christmas Day and NBA Saturday Primetime games. The deal makes Burke the first woman to serve as a TV analyst for a major men’s championship in the US.

Tampa Bay Rays All-Star shortstop Wander Franco has been placed on the restricted list and is sitting out his team’s road trip due to a scandal involving social media posts. “During today’s game, we were made aware of the social media posts that are circulating regarding Wander Franco,” the Rays said on Sunday “We take the situation seriously and are in close contact with Major League Baseball as it conducts its due diligence.” The posts accused Franco of having an inappropriate relationship with a minor.

Former WBC/WBO Boxing Champion and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko will be interviewed on “Game Time With Boomer Esiason,” airing Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20 in all 210 US TV markets on 337 network affiliates, as well CBS-TV owned and operated stations. Klitschko, who was elected Mayor of Kyiv in 2014 following a 16-year career as a professional boxer, addresses the war in Ukraine, his early life in Russia as the son of a Soviet air force general, his professional boxing career, his political career and his personal life.

Pickleball is still on the rise in America, increasing by 85.7% year-over-year and by 158.6% over three years, according to the 2023 State of Pickleball: Participation & Infrastructure Report. With 8.9 million participants in 2022, the number of new participants in pickleball exceeded the total number of pickleball participants in 2021. Counter to perceptions that the sport is for seniors, the average age of a pickleball participant is 35, while the age group with the most participants is 25-34.

Big Media science series “Destruction Decoded” has gotten the green light for a second season and a spin off series. The new episodes will be co-produced with RMC Production and Wild Bear Australia. NTV Germany has signed on for a total of 20 episodes of the “Decoded” franchise, which includes a spinoff series “Danger Decoded.”

Big changes at CBS News. Neeraj Khemlani is stepping down as President and Co-Head of CBS News and Stations, and has signed a first look deal with the network to develop documentaries, books and scripted series. “It’s an opportunity that will allow me to write, report and develop stories that I’ve long wanted to pursue,” he wrote in a memo to staffers. Also leaving is CBS Media Ventures President Steve LoCasio. “I have been contemplating retirement for quite some time,” he wrote to his team. “After 34 years and many different iterations of this company (and many bosses), I have decided to pull the trigger and will be retiring.”

Taking over CBS News and stations will be Wendy McMahon, who was named President and Co-Head in 2021. McMahon will now also oversee CBS’ domestic syndication business. Said President and CEO of CBS George Cheeks, “She is a dynamic leader with clear vision who generates forward momentum in every business she touches.” Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews, who joined CBS in 1993, will oversee CBS News, reporting to McMahon.
