Lionsgate and Universal Music Group inked a multi-year, first-look television to develop scripted and unscriptedprojects based on artists and content from UMG. “UMG has produced award-winning films and we can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together in television,” said Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs. “We see so much opportunity for storytelling in the talent and properties that UMG represents, and we look forward to working together to bring these incredible stories to life in a way that resonates with a global audience.”

Hulu acquired Australia’s Safe Harbour for its U.S. debut as a Hulu Original Series. Four-part event drama tells the story of five Australians on a yachting trip whose vacation takes a disastrous turn when they come upon a broken-down fishing boat full of desperate asylum seekers.
PBS’s Austin City Limits kicks off season 44 on Saturday, October 6 with art-rock performer St. Vincent. Also appearing over the course of the season are John Prine, Alessia Cara, Kacey Musgraves and Sam Smith, among others.
Apple and Pinterest joined Facebook,YouTube and Spotify in removing content from infoWars and its founder, Alex Jones. While Jones is known for spreading false news – like saying the Sandy Hook killings were a hoax – it’s his hate speech that got him the boot. “Apple does not tolerate hate speech,” said the company. “We believe in representing a wide range of views, so long as people are respectful to those with differing opinions.”
Nippon Broadcasting and Audioburst entered into a joint partnership for building new voice technology products using Audioburst’s AI-based voice search platform. Nippon is investing $3 million in Audioburst, bringing the company’s Series A Round to $14.4 million. “News around the funding and strategic relationship with Nippon Broadcasting, Inc. means that we can expand our unmatched technology and mission to organize the world’s audio to a greater international audience of radio, broadcast and podcast creators and users across devices,” Amir Hirsch, founder and CEO of Audioburst, tells Cynopsis. “We’re changing the way people can search, explore and experience audio and voice search and this is just the beginning.”  
In what it is touting as the auto industry’s first online matchmaking experience, Cars.com is using a proprietary machine learning algorithm to make personalized car recommendations. Users “like” or “don’t like” recommendations, leading to car matches near their location.
My Town Games, creator of dollhouse-like digital games, inked a deal with Discovery Inc. to release co-branded games that allow kids to explore open-ended play. The co-venture will launch later this summer as My Town Discovery, a game that features a virtual world where kids can hang out with their friends and explore their community. It will debut on the App store and on Google Play as a 7-day free trial, after which players will have the option of joining the club with a monthly subscription fee.  
Kantar has been certified as a verified Measurement Partner for Google, designating it as an approved third-party measurement provider for brands looking to verify their media spend performance on Google-owned platforms. Google Measurement Partners offers partnerships with Google that give brands a variety of options to measure their advertising media. The program is launching with 20+ verified partners across seven specializations: viewability, reach, brand safety, brand lift, sales lift, app attribution, and marketing mix modeling.
SheKnows Media’s 14th#BlogHer Creators Summit will include a fireside chat with Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black), on the work Time’s Up is doing to create a safe and fair work environment. Summit takes place August 8-9 in NYC at The Seaport’s Pier 17.

Driven by one of its strongest Shark Weeks ever, Discovery Channel finished the month ahead of last July across all 25-54, 18-49, and 18-34 demos, with growth across six nights of the week.  
Other company highlights include: HGTV finished July ranked as the #3 cable network among W25-54 and #8 among A25-54 in Prime; Food Network delivered double-digit A25-54 rating growth in July, ranking it as the #7 cable net among W25-54 and #4 among upscale W25-54; TLC had its best July performance ever, ranking as the #1 cable network in Prime among W25-54; July 2018 was ID’s best July ever in Prime across all key demos – P2+, HH, P/W/M 25-54, P/W/M 18-49; and OWN had its highest-rated month in the Daytime daypart (.17 W25-54), up +42% over last year.
It was Animal Planet’s second consecutive month of year-over-year Prime growth among A25-54 and W25-54. The network broke into ad-supported cable’s top 10 on Saturdays among women (#7), and Travel Channel produced its highest-rated July ever for A25-54 and M25-54 viewers, posting 16% gains over last July. In Prime and Total Day, July 2018 became Velocity’s most-watched July in network history, and marked the net’s 20th consecutive month of year-over-year Prime delivery growth among A25-54 and P/M18+. It was Science Channel’s highest-rated July among P/M/W25-54 and P2+, making the sixth month this year the net has set A25-54 monthly ratings records. And DIY Network recorded its highest-rated ever July among A25-54 and M25-54 during Prime.  
The premiere of Globo telenovela O Tempo Nao Para (Time does not Stop, in a loose translation) reached 40.8 million Brazilian viewers and a share of 46% – the best result for a first chapter in the slot since 2013.

The same day word broke of the departure of Luis Silberwasser, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises announced new responsibilities for four execs. Discovery, Inc. appointed Peter Faricy to the newly created role of CEO, Global Direct-to-Consumer, overseeing Discovery’s global digital and direct-to-consumer businesses. Faricy joins Discovery from Amazon.
PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi is stepping down, and will be replaced by the company’s president, Ramon Laguarta. Nooyi will remain as chairman until early 2019.
