Showtime has canceled anthology series “The First Lady,” which focused on the stories of Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford and Michelle Obama. “Showtime can confirm that the anthology series ‘The First Lady’ will not be moving forward with another season,” said a network. “We would like to applaud the artistry and commitment of our showrunner Cathy Schulman, director Susanne Bier, their fellow executive producers, our amazing cast — led by executive producer Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson — and our studio partner Lionsgate for their dedicated work in telling the unique stories of three remarkable leaders.”

Forty-four percent of FAST channel viewers demonstrate high TV ad-receptivity, according to a new report from LG Ads Solutions. FAST viewers are also more likely to be the primary decision maker for grocery, entertainment and financial spending – 70% drive purchase decisions around grocery shopping and 65% choose healthcare plans and manage budgeting & saving. The study also reveals that, of FAST channel viewers:
· 58% identify as male
· 45% are between the ages of 35-54 (compared to 36% of cable/satellite TV subscribers)
· 60% say they’ll watch ads that make them laugh, while 57% say they prefer short ads

Cox Media Group and INSP have closed the sale of CMG stations in 12 markets to Imagicomm, an affiliate of INSP responsible for the ownership and management of broadcast-related functions. The deal, which marks INSP’s expansion into the broadcasting industry, was first announced in March. “This acquisition is part of our broad corporate strategy to expand our media ownership across multiple entertainment platforms,” said David Cerullo, Chairman & CEO, INSP. “We’re excited to bring these stations into the Imagicomm family because we know they are important local-journalism brands.”

Sinclair Broadcast Group has entered into agreements with two Korean Broadcast networks, Korean Broadcast System (KBS), and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) to collaborate on the development and implementation of NextGen Broadcast business models and technology in both Korea and the United States. “Sinclair’s collaboration with KBS and MBC will help establish roadmaps for development and implementation of NextGen mobile TV and DDaaS technologies,” said Sinclair’s President and CEO, Chris Ripley. “As we continue to lead the evolution of these technologies and further their practical application, we look forward to building new business models around these exciting NextGen opportunities.”

HGTV ordered a new, 12-episode season of “100 Day Dream Home,” slated to premiere in spring 2023. During its most recent season, the series attracted more than 18.1 million viewers and ranked as a top 3 non-news/sports cable premiere among upscale P25-54 and upscale W25-54 and as a top 5 non-news/sports cable premiere among P25-54 and W25-54.

“Alma’s Way” has been picked up for a second season on PBS Kids. The animated series aimed at viewers 4-6 centers on a young Puerto Rican girl living in the Bronx.

Hannah Simone (“New Girl”) has joined upcoming ABC comedy “Not Dead Yet” as a series regular.


Alex Wagner’s MSNBC program, premiering Tuesday, August 16 at 9p, has a name: “Alex Wagner Tonight.” The show will air Tuesday-Friday, with “The Rachel Maddow Show” continuing weekly on Mondays. It’s Wagner’s second stint at MSNBC – she hosted “Now With Alex Wagner” from 2011 until its cancellation in 2015.


After recently celebrating 30 years with ESPN, Linda Cohn inked a new, multiyear deal to remain with the network as an anchor for SportsCenter in addition to being a contributor to ESPN’s coverage of the NHL. “Linda has had an amazing career at ESPN and she continues to serve our fans after 30 years on the air,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN Executive Editor & Head of Event & Studio Production.

NBC Sports’ coverage of the NASCAR/INDYCAR crossover weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on NBC saw gains for both series. Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series coverage on NBC averaged a Total Audience Delivery of 3.402 million viewers, up 18% vs. the same race in 2021. Through six races, NBC Sports’ 2022 NASCAR Cup Series viewership is up 6% vs. 2021, averaging a TAD of 2.653 million viewers. Saturday’s NTT INDYCAR Series race coverage on NBC averaged a TAD of 1.070 million viewers, up 105% vs. last year’s race coverage on NBCSN.

Feld Motor Sports, Inc. and MX Sports Pro Racing jointly announced a partnership that will see the formation of the SuperMotocross World Championship. Under this new alliance, the two companies will work together to grow both, Supercross and Motocross, creating a new championship platform that will reward the sport’s top athletes with a $10 million purse. Starting in 2023, the professional racing season will expand and culminate with the SuperMotocross World Championship on Oct. 14 in LA.

EPIX announced the return of NFL Icons. Season Two of the eight-episode docuseries premieres Sept. 10 at 10p with an hour-long biography of NFL coaching and broadcasting legend John Madden. Rich Eisen narrates the series, with other subjects set to include Walter Payton (Sept. 17), Jimmy Johnson (Sept. 24), Steve Young (Oct. 1), Ray Lewis (Oct. 8), Troy Aikman (Oct. 15), Cris Carter (Oct. 22), and Tony Dungy (Oct. 29).

The XFL and Ticketmaster locked in a new, multi-year partnership making Ticketmaster the Official Ticketing Partner of the XFL. All 43 games of the XFL season (40 regular season games, two playoffs, one championship) across the League’s eight team markets will be ticketed by the company.

The National Lacrosse League named Brett Frood as Commissioner. Frood joins the NLL from Stewart-Haas Racing, where he has served as President of the NASCAR team since its inception in 2008.

Meanwhile, ESPN promoted Rodolfo Martinez to Senior Vice President, ESPN Deportes and international Productions.

DoubleVerfy announced results of a study examining how Connected TV ad campaign performance improves when advertisers can solve for viewability challenges. Campaigns targeting Fully On-Screen CTV environments saw stronger performance:
· Increased Video Completion Rate – When targeting environments that only display ads when the TV is on and the ad is 100% on screen, VCR can be 18% higher (96% for Campaign B versus 81% for Campaign A).
· Higher Authentic Ad Rate – In terms of Authentic Ad Rate, describing ads served to a real person in a brand suitable environment and in the right geo, Campaign B was 5% higher (99% versus 94%).
· Improved Attention Levels: Overall Authentic, Fully On-Screen completion rate – a DV proxy for ad exposure in CTV and a key driver of user attention – was 95% for Campaign B, while DV saw an insignificant number of Authentic, Fully On-Screen impressions for Campaign A. DV found that improving ad exposure correlates with increased brand awareness and favorability.
“Brands rightfully expect their ads to deliver to engaged audiences while the TV set is on,” said DV CEO Mark Zagorski. “Unsurprisingly, those who target environments where ads are Fully On-Screen see better results and stronger performance across the board.”

In July, a month of extreme weather events, more than 2.3 million daily viewing households turned to Spectrum News. The Spectrum News App celebrated its second anniversary in July by surpassing 2.25 million downloads. In the two years since the app launched, users have spent more than 170 million minutes in the platform, including a total of 28.5 million minutes watching the live streams of Spectrum News’ linear channels.

Despite a week of encores, “Dr Phil” hit a five-week high 1.5 Live+SD national Nielsen rating the week of July 18, up 7% from the week before. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” also scored well with repeats, jumping 14% to 0.8. “Inside Edition” rose 5% to 2.1, while “Entertainment Tonight” was up 6%, at 1.9.
