The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations were released and Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Mark Ronson led the pack in Moonman nods. Miley Cyrus will host the festivities, airing live from Microsoft Theater in LA Sunday, August 30 at 9p.

CNBC is extending season three of its hit series The Profit. Additional original episodes begin airing Tuesday, November 3 at 10p. Produced for CNBC by Machete Productions, the show is the most watched original series in network history.  

AT&T’s U-verse has forged a pact with Sean “Diddy” Combs’ cable net Revolt that will make the TV outlet available on the company’s video-distribution systems as early as July 27. The deal includes rights to content on demand and on mobile devices. “With a major player like AT&T, more people will be able to access the hottest music and original content on every screen and device,” said Combs.

Dance Network, a subscription-based streaming-video service devoted to dance programming, is set to launch this fall. Subscribers will have access to original programming including Traveling Dancer, showcasing local dance styles from around the globe; To the Stage, which follows the competitive efforts of high school show choirs, and Steady Mobbin’, a flash mob series. The net will also feature acquired content from programming libraries.

The Paley Center for Media celebrates Lifetime satirical drama Unreal, the first scripted series from A+E Studios, on Thursday, July 30. Members of the series’ cast and creative team will be on hand for a panel discussion that will stream live at 7p on Yahoo Screen at paley.me/unreal, and a preview screening of its season-one finale.

History‘s Power & Ice premieres Thursday, August 27 at 10p. The series introduces viewers to the men who maintain and build the remote and rugged Alaskan power grid.

We’ll be keeping up with another Kardashian series soon: FYI ordered Kocktails with Khloe from Pilgrim Studios. Khloe Kardashian will host and exec produce the primetime hybrid talk series, which begins production immediately for eight one-hour episodes slated to premiere in late 2015. 

TNT’s adaptation of The Alienist has a new consulting producer, reports Variety: Caleb Carr, who penned the best-selling novel. “After twenty years of tough struggle and countless failed attempts, I’m delighted that Paramount Television, Anonymous Content and TNT have decided to join forces and bring ‘The Alienist’ to life in what, based on the material I’ve read, has the potential to be a faithful and exciting TV series,” said Carr.

HGTV is expanding its programming roster with orders for three family-centric series.Five Day Flip features renovator Cherie Barber gutting and remodeling fixer uppers;Vintage Flip follows real estate expert and contractor Jessie Rodriguez and his wife Tina as they purchase dated homes and restore them and Nashville Flipped centers on Troy Dean Shafer, who, along with his designer Alex and team of contractors, renovates historic homes in the heart of Nashville.

DIY is also in the family way with orders for American Rehab: Utah, Andy and Candis Meredith, focusing on a family restoration business, and Amish Dream Homes (wt), featuring a clan working to balance traditional cultural values as they operate a construction business.

Endemol Shine North America signed an exclusive multi-platform deal with exec producer Justin Hochberg and his Just Entertainment Studio to develop global TV formats and digital branded content. “The new Endemol Shine is more than a TV juggernaut,” said Hochberg. “Having access to its digital platforms, talent, consumer products and global reach has already begun paying dividends. I’ve never gotten bigger and better ideas sold faster. What producer wouldn’t dream to have that?”

Comcast Wholesale has teamed with Rovi to deliver interactive program guides to analog TV homes. The Rovi DTA Guide was created specifically for digital terminal adapters for both standard definition and HD signals. “DTAs allow operators to save bandwidth by eliminating the majority of their analog feeds,”  said Leslie Russell, Vice President for Comcast Wholesale. “The Rovi guide will further enhance the viewer experience and offer new content discovery opportunities to customers using DTAs.”

COMING UP

Sherri Shepherd discovers divine dining on Cooking Channel‘s Holy & Hungry, premiering Sunday, August 23 at 10p. "Holy & Hungry celebrates something that people of all religions enjoy – delicious food," said Michael Smith, general manager and SVP, Cooking Channel. "The unique lens of faith to explore food is unlike any other series on Cooking Channel.”

Destination America’s Project Afterlife explores tales of people who have come back from the dead. Six-parter premieres Sunday, August 9 at 10p.

ABC’s World of X Games presents the first-ever Real Wake Driven by MasterCraft video competition on Sunday, July 26 at 4p. The one-hour show, produced by Alliance Multimedia, showcases some of the biggest names in wakeboarding, reconnecting the sport with X Games for the first time since 2005.

Smithsonian Channel is re-airing 2014 special Amy Winehouse: One Shining Night on Thursday, July 23 at 8p. The one-hour program captures a 2006 performance from the late singer. Film doc Amy was released July 10.

RETURNING SERIES

The seventh and final season of The League premieres Wednesday, September 9 at 10p on FXX. The second season of You’re the Worst immediately follows at 10:30p.

Texas Trocas, Discovery en Espanol’s most watched original series in 2014, is back for a second season on Monday, August 3 at 10p. The docu-series follows the Mendez, a Mexican-American family who began their trucking business 40 years ago.

The saga of America’s last true frontier town, McCarthy, and its struggle with new settlers trying to bring it into the 21st century continues. Edge of Alaska returns to Discovery Channel on Friday, August 14 at 9p.

Season nine of Ice Road Truckers returns to History on Sunday, August 2 at 9p with a fierce battle for supremacy on the winter roads.

CASTING

Joey Pollari (The Inbetweeners) joins the season two cast of ABC‘s American Crime. He’ll play a teen whose life is publicly torn apart following accusations made after a school party.

Megan Hilty (Smash) landed a recurring role on Bravo‘s Girlfriends Guide to Divorce. She’ll play a southern belle married to Jo’s ex.

FOX‘s The X-Files revival has added two new cast members: The Flash‘s Robbie Amell, as smart and smooth Agent Miller, and Lauren Ambrose, as confident Agent Einstein.

GLOBAL GOINGS-ON

Beyond Distribution announced a package deal of 100 hours of property programming to TV2 Norway. The collection includes an additional 26 episodes of Love It or List It, which the channel currently airs. TV2 also secured both seasons of Love It or List It Vancouver, the new Love It or List It UK and Game of Homes, a new Canadian property format series.

KID STUFF

After its successful UK launch, Hopster, the app that helps kids learn through the shows they love, has expanded its Apple TV reach into over 100 new countries and is already live in Australia, the Middle East, South East Asia, and India. In the UK, The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child are returning, with Room on the Broom following in August.

RATINGS

On the heels of Science Channel delivering its most watched second quarter ever, Direct From Pluto: The First Encounter (Wednesday, July 15 at 10p) broke into the network’s top 15 telecasts of all time in Total Viewers P2+ in Live +3. The special garnered 815,000 Total Viewers P2+, landing at #13 in the ranking of all telecasts in network history.

ABC’s Rookie Blue scored its biggest-ever Live + 3 playback increase among A18-49, spiking +71% over its L+SD rating. The ABC drama increased its playback growth for the 2nd consecutive week (+43% to +57% to +71%).

Maury, the oldest talk host in syndication, was tops among W18-34 (1.1 demo rating) and W18-49 (1.1 demo rating) the week of July 6. In addition, Maury tied for #1 among W25-54 with Live with Kelly & Michael (1.3 demo rating).

Food Network Star posted a season high 1.1 rating (1.05M imp) among A25-54, ranking #5 among cable for the night, a gain of +38% vs. same episode YAGO, with this season tracking +13% over last season and averaging 2.1 million P2+ viewers. Overall, Food Network ranked #4 among cable for Sunday night.

CBS’ 48 HOURS: “The Girl Next Door” was Saturday’s #1 program with A25-54 and viewers, according to Nielsen Live+SD ratings for July 18. The broadcast delivered 5.02 million viewers and a 1.2/04 with adults 25-54. Compared to the same night last year, 48 Hours was up +50% in adults 25-54 and +64% in viewers.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Turner Broadcasting‘s TNT and TBS have set their creative development and production teams, with Joey Chavez, formerly Vice President of Drama Development for NBC, joining the company as Senior Vice President of Original Programming for TNT and Thom Hinkle promoted to Senior Vice President of Original Programming for TBS. In addition, Robin Pelleck has been elevated to Vice President of Digital Content for TNT and TBS original programming, and Meredith Zamsky, previously a producer on Castle and The Office, has been hired as Vice President of Production for TNT.

Donyell Kennedy McCullough has joined TV One‘s Original Programming and Production Department as Senior Director of Casting and Talent Relations.
