Good morning. It’s Tuesday July 12, 2016, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
UFC made its new parents official, announcing its purchase by WME/IMG for a sum estimated to top $4 billion. UFC President Dana White confirmed that he will remain to oversee day-to-day operations of the behemoth, while Lorenzo Fertitta will pull back and will join his brother Frank with a minority stake in the promotion. WME/IMG will also serve as UFC’s operating partner and focus on boosting the sport’s popularity and presence around the world. Other partners involved in the deal include Silver Lake Partners, KKR, MSD Capital, L.P. and MSD Partners.

ESPN2’ First Take has its new but familliar face with Max Kellerman joining the show starting July 25 as part of a crew that includes Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim. The move means that Kellerman will relinquish his roles on ESPN2’s SportsNation and as co-host of Max & Marcellus on ESPNLA 710AM. His last day on ESPN Radio and his last appearance on SportsNation will both be on Friday.
Speaking of ESPN, the company announced that Vice President Joe Biden and Justin Timberlake will join The 2016 ESPYS on July 13 as presenters. Biden will help honor Craig Sager with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award. Meanwhile, Timberlake will present the Icon Award, which this year will pay tribute to Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning and Abby Wambach.
NBC Olympics held their press briefing in Rio, revealing that NBC will stream every athletic event live for the Summer Games, while the Opening Ceremony will be held for a one-hour delay, according to NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus. NBC is looking to “curate” the ceremony and instead offer the stream and broadcast an hour later. In addition, the network will offer a one-hour special on Aug. 4 at 8p looking at the Games and spotlighting the likes of athletes Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Kerri Walsh Jennings, Usain Bolt, as well as the US women’s gymnastics team. The program will be hosted by Bob Costas and also introduce viewers to the host city and country, while addressing all topics related to the Rio Olympics.
Univision Deportes is touting that the cable sports network ranked tops in primetime among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Men 18-49 and Men 18-34 for the month of June, besting competitors ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports 1 and NBC Sports Network. “This is a milestone for Univision,” said Juan Carlos Rodriguez, President of Univision Deportes. “These stellar ratings underscore the relevance of our best-in-class soccer content and the power of Hispanic sports fans as viewers and consumers of the sport.”
ESPN International locked in an exclusive three-year, multimedia agreement with Relevent Sports to carry the International Champions Cup in Mexico and Central America. The first tournament under the deal kicks off July 22 at 8a on ESPN. ESPN International now has rights to run all matches across television and digital platforms in Mexico and Central America, including television networks ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN+ and streaming on ESPN Play. ESPN will also feature additional content, news and analysis on ESPN.com and ESPNFC.com.
From Thursday through Sunday, NBC Sports is partnering with DirecTV to offer the company’s mosaic offering for The Open, which will feature four separate productions. Offerings include a live TV simulcast of Golf Channel’s and NBC’s live tournament coverage Thursday-Sunday; live coverage of the first tee for every group; a Marquee Group spotlight; and live coverage of holes 6, 7 and the famed 123-yard par-3 8th hole.
Speaking of Golf Channel, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will join David Feherty for an exclusive interview on Feherty next Monday at 9p. The interview took place at Trump’s Manhattan apartment residence on June 22.

Netflix is set to debut the original six-part documentary series, Fearless, on August 19, showcasing the lives of the top Brazilian riders competing in PBR from the massive Barretos event in Sao Paulo to the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas.
