Good morning. It’s Thursday July 6, 2016, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

Twitter took a bow on its first livecast sporting event, courtesy of Wimbledon. The platform, which is set to deliver Thursday Night Football this fall, offered content from its "Live @ Wimbledon" feed yesterday to test its capabilities with the feed offering interviews and match replays. "Twitter is increasingly a place where people can find live streaming video, and that includes exciting sporting events like Wimbledon,” said a Twitter spokesperson. “This livestream is an extremely early and incomplete test experience, and we’ll be making lots of improvements before we launch it in its final form."

ON THE AIR

NBC Sports will showcase its newest team member, Mike Tirico, at The 145th Open from Royal Troon in Scotland next week, with a follow-up in August at the Summer Games. Tirico hosts of NBC Sports’ coverage of The Open on Golf Channel and NBC from July 14-17. This year’s tournament marks the company’s first shot at the championship and is lining up 50 hours of live tournament coverage  the most ever planned for a major championship surrounded by nearly 60 hours of Golf Channel’s news coverage. Production elements will include NBC Links Trax, Wind Indicators, and an enhanced graphics package.

ESPN’s coverage of the 2016 T-Mobile Home Run Derby on July 11 at 8p will see  a new main set on the field, featuring analysts Jessica Mendoza and Aaron Boone joining Chris Berman. Karl Ravech, Dallas Braden, Tim Kurkjian and Eduardo Perez will offer commentary from a second set inside the stadium. Tech goodies will include the use of a Phantom 4K ultra-high-speed camera and the 360-degree replay technology from Intel. ESPN will also deploy five robotic cameras, including a Super Slo-Mo placed in front of the hitter.
 
Around the dial, MLB Network tackles 2016 All-Star Week with 13 hours of coverage. Highlights include High Heat, Intentional Talk and MLB Tonight offering live on-field coverage leading up to the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and the 2016 All-Star Game with analysts using wireless “hat cams” to capture players on the field during warmups and batting practice. The channel telecasts the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday at 7p as well as the Triple-A All-Star Game, on July 13 at 7p.

FOX Sports is adding Shannon Spake to its team, where she will serve as a sideline reporter for its college football and college basketball coverage and as a member of its NASCAR broadcast team on pit road and in the NASCAR RACE HUB studio. Spake also will report from the sidelines for select FOX NFL broadcasts. During the 2016 college football season, she joins Gus Johnson and analyst Joel Klatt as reporter.
 
E! ordered Hollywood & Football, a docuseries showcasing the move of six Rams players and their families from the Midwest to Los Angeles. Deadline reports that six one-hour episodes will run this fall, featuring Kenny & Sabrina Britt, Rodger & Asia Saffold, Lance & Danielle Kendricks, Chase & Kila Reynolds, Bradley Marquez & Melissa Hernandez as well as Cory & Bianca Harkey.

DIRECTV will showcase UFC 200 on Saturday as part of the partnership with NeuLion and UFC to deliver the event in 4K. DirecTV customers can watch with 4K televisions and set-top-boxes while fans with a 2015/2016 Sony Ultra HD televisions can access UFC 200 via the UFC.tv app.

The Portland Trail Blazers locked in a four-year contract extension with CSN Northwest. The deal now runs through the 2020-21 NBA season.

NBC Sports is upping its promotional game for The Open, launching the next phase of promotion. Spots include Golf Channel debuting the “Next on the Tee” promo featuring Ivor Robson. Once Championship week coverage begins, David Lancaster will take the reins from Robson as the voice of a “Now on the Tee” promo for the duration of the tournament.

ESPN Radio’s 12th Annual ESPY Day Auction to benefit The V Foundation for Cancer Research is up and running on eBay, running through July 13. This year’s auction of more than 100 items includes tickets to sports events, autographed memorabilia, unique experiences with athletes, celebrities and behind-the-scenes experiences with ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike and sports-related experiences with ESPN personalities Stephen A. Smith, Jon Gruden, Julie Foudy and more. In addition, The V Foundation and Omaze have teamed to offer a winner and their guest the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to appear in a "This Is SportsCenter" commercial alongside a professional athlete and be a VIP at both a Monday Night Football game and College GameDay of their choice. 

Major League Soccer, along with official licensee Mitchell & Ness, are launching a product line specifically designed for Philadelphia Union Supporters’ Group, Sons of Ben. This marks the first time a MLS Supporters’ Group will have a dedicated product line from an official MLS licensee. The product line includes unique design elements inspired by the history of Philadelphia, such as the eight segment snake from Benjamin Franklin’s “Join, or Die” political cartoon, as well as the Sons of Ben, including a badge featuring Sons of Ben and Philadelphia Union crests.

LDiscovery and Monumental Sports & Entertainment unveiled a partnership the makes LDiscovery the presenting partner of the MSE Sports Series, which includes events ranging from college basketball to international hockey. LDiscovery will also receive in-arena signage, out-of-home signage, in-game promotions for the Capitals and Wizards, inclusion in Capitals and Wizards VIP experiences and digital advertising exposure on Monumental Sports Network. 
 
GameFly signed Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams to become the new brand ambassador for the video game rental service. This deal will see Gurley involved in the brand’s marketing activities through advertising, social media, appearances and other company campaigns.

DIGITAL & STREAMING

Pac-12 universities are overhauling their websites. Through a deal with SIDEARM Sports, the new platforms will offer “an innovative set of tools including more easily consumable content on all devices, a deeper video-on-demand integration, improved personalization and more, all designed to create the most customized and engaging experience for each university.” USC will join the platform in June 2017 to complete the 12-member migration.

FuboTV is now claiming 71,170 subscribers as of June 30, with 23,778 subscribing in the second quarter alone, up 50% over the previous quarter. Year-over-year, fuboTV has more than quadrupled its subscribers (302%) compared to June 30, 2015.
 
ESPN Audio broke its record for the number of podcast impressions in June, tallying 47,555,864 during the month. That represents a rise of 63% over the previous May and breaks the record set in May (41.2 million). This week, ESPN Audio is launching Five Rounds with Brett Okamoto, a weekly offering focusing on the MMA. 

Fantastico, a hyper-local, mobile-optimized site that offers Latino consumers with a ticket-purchasing experience entirely in Spanish, locked in a deal with the New York Cosmos for the 2016 North American Soccer League Fall season. As part of the partnership, the Cosmos will receive category exclusivity in the “feature” section of the mobile site as well as premium placement in the leaderboard at the top of the homepage. Fantastico will execute fan engagement activities at games and in the Cosmos fan zone, as well as street team activation.
