Chris Cuomo will be joining the primetime line-up of NewsNation this fall as the host of his own show. “I look forward to building something special here – covering news wherever it happens and having conversations that cater to common concerns and solutions rather than political parties or the political circus,” said Cuomo, former host of CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time.” Cuomo lost his job at CNN last year after helping his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who was facing allegations of sexual harassment.
Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings closed deals to stay on as permanent hosts of “Jeopardy!”. Jennings will host the first stretch of episodes of the upcoming season, with Bialik stepping in starting in January. Bialik will also host “Celebrity Jeopardy!” on ABC.
Chris Rock is ready to joke about “The Slap.” At a comedy show at Madison Square Garden and PNC Bank Arts Center over the weekend, the comic finally addressed the incident from the 2022 Oscars in March. “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face,” he said on Sunday. “I’m not a victim. Yeah, that sh*t hurt, motherf***er. Bu … I don’t go to the hospital for a paper cut.”
Conservative news net Newsmax inked a multi-year carriage deal that keeps it on the Verizon platform. “Verizon has carried Newsmax for many years and we are delighted to be extending our distribution through the Fios platform,” says Christopher Ruddy, Newsmax Media CEO. “We have found them to be outstanding partners who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the presentation of diverse, independent voices through their programming.” The news comes just days after Verizon Fios dropped One America News network, effective July 31, leaving the far-right outlet without a major carrier.
PBS and the Kennedy Center announced a multi-year partnership to highlight contributions of artistic changemakers. Over the next three years, a new primetime performing arts series, “Next at the Kennedy Center,” will explore the influence of contemporary artists across art forms, genres and backgrounds. The first five-episode season will premiere on October 7 at 10p on PBS.
Cinedigm acquired North American rights to the Meryl Streep executive produced film “Sell/Buy/Date.” The 2022 SXSW Official Selection film offers a progressive look at the sex industry and is the directorial debut of Tony Award-winner Sarah Jones, who also stars, alongside interviews and cameos from Rosario Dawson, Bryan Cranston, Ilana Glazer and others.
Eric Ledgin signed an overall deal with Universal Television. The comedy writer-producer of series such as “Superstore,” “American Auto” and “Rutherford Falls” will develop and produce projects across platforms with the company.
NBC canceled “Million Dollar Island” ahead of production. The “Survivor”-like competition series, set to follow 100 contestants as they compete over 50 days for the chance to win $1 million, was reportedly in the casting phase before it was shelved.

Channel 4 commissioned “The Real Windsors” from Spun Gold TV. The three-part series will examine the current standing of the British Royal Family. The first film will look back on The Queen’s reign, the second will focus on Prince Charles’s long apprenticeship for the crown and the third will center on the next successor in line, Prince William.
Curious Films made a deal with Netflix to produce “Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee.” The feature length documentary will tell the story of the life and death of software pioneer John McAfee, the inventor of the McAfee Anti-Virus who ran for president, escaped from jail more than once and claimed to have hacked the world.
Paramount+ renewed “iCarly” for a third season. Production will get underway later this year for a 2023 premiere on the streaming service.
Channel 5 commissioned Boom to produce “Our Little Farm on the Prairie.” The series follows the lives of the Doan family in North Dakota, who follow a rural lifestyle and American traditions.
Veteran Hollywood executives Jeff Porter and Keith L. Craig have joined forces to form Porter+Craig Film and Media Distribution. Earlier this year, Porter+Craig released the limited theatrical premier of its supernatural crime thriller, “The Blacklight,” and has recently acquired the rights to Cannes Film Festival selection, “The Vagabonds.”
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
BBC America announced the premiere date of “Africa’s Wild Year”: August 6 at 8p on BBC and AMC+. The series is set over the course of a single year in Africa, with an episode for each of the four seasons.
“Rick and Morty” will return to Adult Swim on September 4. Season 6 of the two-time Emmy-winning animated comedy series will premiere globally and across the multiverse.
Netflix will launch “Thai Cave Rescue” on September 22. The six-episode series about the real-life story of 12 boys and an adult who were trapped in a cave in northern Thailand will show how an afternoon exploration went disastrously wrong.
Chuck D-produced docuseries “Fight The Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World” will premiere on January 31, 2023 on PBS. The series will feature firsthand accounts from rap stars such as Ice-T, Fat Joe, Run DMC, MC Lyte, will.i.am., Lupe Fiasco and more.
COMING UP
“Late Night With Seth Meyers” is canceled for the rest of the week after Meyers tested positive for Covid. Meyers’ late-night colleagues Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have also had to bring in guest hosts after testing positive in recent months.
FOX Nation will present a live summit special on August 3 at 11a. “The Broken Border Crisis” will take place in Edinburg, Texas and take look at the economic, political and human impact along our nation’s southern border.
FX set “Superspreader” as the next documentary from “The New York Times Presents.” The upcoming feature from the documentary film series highlights the spread of COVID-19 misinformation online and will premiere on August 19 at 10p on FX and Hulu.
ABC will present “Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music and Laughter” on September 22, in celebration of the producer’s 100th birthday. Special guests and performers will be announced at a later date.
The Roku Channel’s “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” will premiere on November 4. The music biopic stars Daniel Radcliffe as the comedy recording artist.
The president of PBS announced that documentaries on Dr. Fauci, Roberta Flack and Zora Neale Hurston are on the way. “American Masters: Tony – A Year in the Life of Dr. Anthony Fauci” is coming to PBS in Spring 2023 and will follow Dr. Fauci as he battles a global pandemic and a political onslaught. “American Masters: Roberta Flack” will premiere on January 24 at 9p, and the “American Experience” biography “Zora Neale Hurston” will premiere in 2023.
STREAMING
Hulu has changed its position and will now accept political issue ads after rejecting Democrats’ abortion and gun spots. Leaders of three Democratic committees had previously blasted Hulu for its decision to reject the advertising spots, calling out the streaming service for “censorship of the truth.” Stated The Walt Disney Co., “Hulu will now accept candidate and issue advertisements covering a wide spectrum of policy positions, but reserves the right to request edits or alternative creative, in alignment with industry standards.”

LIV Golf is spreading its wings in 2023, expanding its series of tournaments to 14 with 48 players competing across a dozen established team franchises for $405 million in purses in the LIV Golf League. The dates or sites of the 14 events for 2023 were not announced, although it is “expected to expand LIV Golf’s global footprint across North and Latin Americas, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Europe.” LIV Golf said its events in 2023 wouldn’t conflict with the four majors, international team events or heritage tournaments, and offer opportunities for promotions and relegations.
The BIG3 announced that the league’s first-ever All-Star Game will be held ahead of the 2022 Championship Game at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on August 21. The remaining eight teams in contention will battle out across the final two weeks of the regular season at Comerica Center in Frisco, where the bottom two teams will also be eliminated from playoff contention each weekend. The final four teams will move on to the playoffs at Amalie Arena in Tampa to compete for a spot in the 2022 Championship Game.
Hendrick Motorsports unlocked an extension with Acronis, its Official Cyber Protection Partner through the 2025 season. The company will also serve as the primary partner for William Byron during two upcoming races.
The Japan Tennis Association extended its agreement with IMG, to act as its exclusive commercial agency for global sponsorships for the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships. The five-year agreement will run through 2027.
CASTING
Ashley Benson, Eric Balfour, Clair Rushbrook, Marsha Stephanie Blake and Morgana Van Peebles were cast in Amazon Original drama series “Wilderness.” Filming is currently underway in the U.S. and Canada with the series launching next year.
David Krumholtz will reprise his role as Bernard the Elf in Disney+’s “The Santa Clauses.” Krimholtz will reunite with Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell in the Christmas spinoff of the original 1994 film. The series is expected to premiere later this year.
Miranda Richardson and Daniel Betts have joined Netflix’s “Fate: The Winx Saga.” The upcoming second season will premiere globally on September 16.
Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna have teamed up for a Spanish-language boxing series for Hulu. The pair, who first collaborated on “Y Tu Mamá También,” will star in and produce “La Máquina” – following an aging boxer who has one final shot at a title.
Harry Shum Jr. has joined “Grey’s Anatomy” season 19. The “Glee” alum rounded out a group of five new cast additions for the upcoming season.
Ben Levin and Kim Rhodes joined the upcoming third season of CW’s “Kung Fu.” Levin is coming off his role of Jed Tien in “Legacies” and Rhodes is known for her role as Sheriff Jody Mills on “Supernatural.”
Mark Dacascos and Chelsea Muirhead were cast as series regulars on HBO Max’s “Warrior.” The upcoming 10-episode third season of the martial arts crime drama is set during the Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 19th century, and is based on the writings of Bruce Lee.

Off the Fence announced a slate of content focused on climate change, biodiversity and the future of the planet. The first project for the production company, “The Future From Above,” will be made in collaboration with EarthxTV and Borderless, and will focus on how the world could look in 2050 if we embrace revolutionary technology and thinking.
The TF1/M6 merger is under threat after France’s competition authority raised concerns over the deal. The leading French commercial broadcasters first announced they were in merger negotiations in May 2021, to create a commercial broadcasting giant that could compete against global platforms. The authority released its findings Tuesday identifying “significant competition problems” that were unfavorable to the merger.

NBC Sports reports that its coverage of the World Track & Field Championships Oregon22 ranked as the most-watched Track & Field Championships on record (since 1988), reaching 18.7 million total viewers across NBC Sports platforms for the 10-day event. The 18.7 million total viewers surpass NBC Sports’ previous record for the event by 65%.
