ADVERTISING

TV will drop to 26.5% of global ad spend in 2021 from 30.8% in 2018, according to projections form Publicis Media’s Zenith. Internet display advertising will be the top medium, while OOH will maintain its 6.5% share of advertising spend.

The biggest spender on OTT local advertising is the automotive category, according to 1Q19 data from ZypMedia. Cars were followed by Home & Garden, and Health & Fitness. Also of note: 59% of all OTT campaigns ran for a duration of one month or shorter. The personal finance category averaged the shortest campaign length, at two months, while Law, Government & Politics was the longest, at over six months.

Eighty-seven percent of the top 30 advertisers that ran spots during the Women’s World Cup also did so during the Men’s World Cup last year, according to a MediaRadar study. “Looking at how top industries spent TV ad dollars on each tournament, we notice several similarities, but also some differences,” said Todd Krizelman, CEO and Co-Founder of MediaRadar. “Industries such as Retail and Media & Entertainment accounted for a similar share of the ad dollars in both tournaments, but then there were industries where the share of spend was noticeably different.” Industries that accounted for a larger share of spend during the men’s tournament included Tech, Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Beer, Wine & Spirits, while Finance & Real Estate, Apparel, Home Furnishings and Toiletries & Cosmetics accounted for a larger share of spend during the women’s events.

Univision expects this upfront season to be its best in four years, reports Variety, with overall volume up 5-6% versus last year. Last week the company announced its board is exploring “strategic options” that could include a sale.

In the first, artificial intelligence will be used to flag comments that “might be considered offensive,” giving users a chance to undo a nasty comment before it posts.
