Good morning. It’s Tuesday June 27, 2017 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Nielsen is bringing FOX Sports under the umbrella of its National Out-of-Home Reporting Service. The multi-year agreement will hand FOX Sports broadcast network, FS1, FS2 and FOX Deportes with program and commercial ratings for live through live + 7 days of time-shifted viewing. “Sports are being watched everywhere, every day and on every type of screen. Our business has to keep pace with changes in viewer behavior,” said Eric Shanks, President, Chief Operating Officer & Executive Producer, FOX Sports. “Nielsen’s out-of-home measurement enables us to measure our audience wherever they may be, which in turn allows us to better service the advertising industry.”
 
 
ON THE AIR

NBC Sports announced that country music star and coach of The Voice, Blake Shelton, will once again perform the 2017 NASCAR on NBC opening theme. The refreshed show open will be set to Shelton’s song “Bringing Back the Sunshine” and debut on Saturday at 7p during NBC’s coverage of the Coke Zero 400. This year’s show open includes new scenes with more than 20 current NASCAR Cup Series drivers and includes members of the U.S. military from both Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala., and NOSC Bessemer in Bessemer, Ala., interacting with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

ESPN reports that, leading into the College World Series Finals, its coverage of the College World Series has seen overnight ratings rise 50% over last year. In addition, the postseason ranks as the most-streamed early-round ever. The 14 non-Finals CWS games of the 2017 Series garnered a 0.6 average overnight rating, and an average minute audience of 28,000 viewers with 120,000 unique viewers watched a total of 5,628,000 minutes.
 
beIN Sports locked in Carlos “El Pescadito” Ruiz as a soccer analyst for the network where he will appear as a studio analyst on both beIN Sports English and Spanish-language networks. He will primarily serve as a pundit on The Locker Room, and The XTRA. He will also serve as a studio analyst for the network’s coverage of NASL and other international soccer competitions.
 
The 2017 and 2018 Wooden Legacy will now see the three-day men’s college basketball event played in its entirety at California State University, Fullerton’s Titan Gym. The 2017 Wooden Legacy will be held on Thursday, Nov. 23, Friday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 26.
 
The World Long Drive Association will take a swing at another new televised event, unveiling plans in partnership with Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee to bring an officially sanctioned WLDA competition to the region next summer.

DIGITAL & STREAMING

Whistle Sports is partnering with Buffalo Wild Wings and NBC Sports to develop the new digital series Forces in Football, starring social influencers F2, who boast over 12 million social followers. The series will look to review and dissect “some of the craziest and most breathtaking goals in recent English Premier League and FA Cup history, whether it’s a stoppage time winner, a penalty kick or just overall smashing feats of skill,” according to the company. The series features a dozen eps, of which six will highlight EPL goals on NBC Sports’ digital platforms with the other half focusing on FA Cup goals appearing on F2’s YouTube channel.
 
WWE will make the first-ever Mae Young Classic women’s tournament available to stream exclusively on WWE Network, starting Aug. 28 with the first four episodes available on demand. Episodes five through eight will then be made available on demand on Sept. 4 with the final match coming from Las Vegas on Sept. 12. The Mae Young Classic will be called by announcer Jim Ross, who will be joined on color commentary by Lita.
 
 
ESPORTS

DMG Entertainment is launching DMG Esports, making an investment in (as well as a strategic partnership with) Super League Gaming. DMG Esports will now be integrated across all of DMG’s divisions, including film, gaming, VR, and location-based entertainment and the two companies will look to combine forces to grow the league, which now includes 12 official city teams in the United States.
 
After more than 196,000 votes, Bud Light unveiled its 2017 Bud Light All-Stars – JWong (Street Fighter), Scump (Call of Duty), RUSH (Counter Strike: Global Offensive), and Hafu (Hearthstone). Today will see the brand host a special 8-hour stream with all four players on its Twitch channel, each Bud All-Star will stream for two hours, beginning at 5p where they will reward fans watching by putting 2 Million Bits, along with other prizes up for grabs. Starting Thursday and running through December, one of the four players will stream from the channel during the Bud Light Happy Hour.
 
ReKTGlobal detailed plans to launch three new ventures for the esports business community; ReKTVenues, ReKTLive and ReKTMedia, “designed to help bridge the gap between the multi-billion-dollar business of traditional sports and the burgeoning business of esports and competitive gaming.” The parent company’s new corporate website, www.rektglobal.com, provides a hub for esports solutions from corporate consultation and creative services, to community-based events, content and programs for professional sports and mixed purpose venues, as well as job placement and university scholarship matching.
