PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Jason Ensler has inked a deal with 20th Century Fox Television that calls for him to serve as executive producer/director of season 2 of Fox drama The Exorcist. Ensler had directed 2 season-one episodes.
Syfy ordered a pilot for supernatural thriller Nightflyers, based on the novella by George R.R. Martin, from Universal Cable Productions and Hypnotic.
9 Story Media Group is in production on an original series for YouTube Red. Furze World Wonders, 9 Story’s first production for the You Tube subscription service, is set to launch this fall and will be available for YouTube Red subscribers on YouTube and the YouTube Kids app.
Australia’s Hoodlum Entertainment (Secrets & Lies) inked a first-look deal with ABC Studios International to develop new content for the global marketplace.
UK-based Chalkboard TV landed a commission from the BBC for historical-crime series My Grandad Was Innocent, which has criminal lawyers investigating murders where the convicted went to the gallows pleading innocence. Series is slated to launch on BBC One in early 2018.
Code Black exec producer/showrunner Michael Seitzman will also fill that role on season 3 of ABC’s Quantico. ABC Television Studios produces both shows.

Its new live TV package could go far towards lining Hulu’s coffers, according to MoffettNathanson Research. Analysts said the service, launched last month, could generate annual ad revenue of $71.1 million and $568.3 million in subscriber fees once it lands 1.18 million subscribers. On the high end, Hulu Live could generate $474.3 million from ads and $2.27 billion in sub revenue.
Netflix’s Girlboss, which premiered April 21, will not make it to a second season. Comedy from Denver & Delilah centered on a broke anarchist turned unlikely entrepreneur. The cancellation follows the streaming service’s axing of The Get Down and Sense8.

Cannes Lions is assembling an advisory committee to help ensure the Festival responds to the needs of the industry. Already onboard are Marc Pritchard, chief brand officer of Procter & Gamble; Keith Weed chief marketing and communications officer, Unilever; Fernando Machado, head of brand marketing, Burger King; Fiona Carter, chief brand officer, AT&T; and Jan Derck van Karnebeek, chief commercial officer at Heineken.
